Cervical Cancer: Risk Factors, Pathophysiology, Symptoms, Staging, Diagnosis, Treatment & Prevention

Cervical Cancer | Risk Factors, Pathophysiology, Symptoms, Staging, Diagnosis, Treatment & Prevention
Cervical Cancer is a cancer of the cervix, which is the lower end of the uterus. Cervical cancer is caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV), with certain types of HPV (types 16, 18) having a higher risk of causing cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer. Cervical cancer results after repeat or long-standing infections with HPV. A variety of factors increase the risk of Cervical cancer including immunosuppression and smoking. In some cases Cervical cancer can be asymptomatic, although as the condition worsens, cervical cancer will cause signs and symptoms including vaginal discharge and vaginal discomfort among other symptoms. In this lesson, we discuss all of the risk factors for getting cervical cancer, the signs and symptoms including symptoms of metastasis of the cancer, staging of Cervical cancer by pap smear and colposcopy, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.
NOTE: In addition to what was mentioned in this lesson with regards to diagnostic procedures, imaging can be used to help stage the cervical cancer (especially in Stage IV).

    Thanks for making this video. My mother just died from this. She had state 3 upon first detection and she was clean after 6 mo of therapy but it came back so aggressive and spread very rapid across lymph nodes. She dies within 6 mo. I miss her forever and hope every girl takes the vaccine and detect as early as possible to kill this.

    The vaccine doesn't always work and it comes with its own risks. I ended up still getting high risk HPV and it was found when it was one step before cancer. But I had the vaccines back when I was a teen and they gave me POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome which affects every autonomic system in your body). So now I have to deal with both.

    My sister-in-law didn't have any pain, but she had bleeding (she's 60, postmenopausal) and bloating, so she knew something was wrong. But this was during lockdown and her doctor wouldn't see her, just told her it was a urinary infection and prescribed antibiotics. By the time she was able to see a doctor and get investigated, the cancer had grown very large. She is now undergoing aggressive, horrible treatment. It's touch and go for her unfortunately. Her immune system may be compromised due to the mRNA injections as the cancer has grown very quickly. But we're hopeful that she will get through this! She has a great positive attitude.

    Hey Doctor? I’ve been experiencing foamy urine for 5 months now after I was given a brain cat scan that was unauthorized and not needed because nothing was wrong with me at all. I also now have these sharp pains on top of my head that come and go and move from the right of the scalp to the left. I also have a white tongue! I got my urine checked and everything is completely normal there is no protein in the urine. That CT scan did some things to my body and all I had was a minor allergic reaction to a spicy sandwich and the incompetent nurse gave me a CT- Scan for a reaction that resolved on its own and the doctor said he doesn’t know why they did a scan and that nothing is wrong with me. Now I am being told it may be Staphylococcus Capitis! Any recommendations? I wake up once a night to urinate. Im also now having pain in my kidneys in the back and strange pains on top of my head that move from the right to the left. All these problems after they did a malpractice on me by giving me a CT Scan. The pain on my head is not a headache but deep pain that comes and goes. I’m also a man

    It’s a sexually transmitted infection men are the carrier, multiple partners is a risk factor. Have paps annually do not go every 3 years regardless that the CDC guidelines changed from 1 yr to 3yrs

    So, I what got was - no smoking, good diet, one man and one woman for life as God intended, and there would little if any of this cancer around. No need for the vaccine either which has sickened young girls.

  • @Iurien

    @Iurien

    The vaccine is still a necessity. You can do everything right health-wise but still contract any type of cancer- Vaccines always have their side effects, but my philosophy with that is that I’d rather take the side effects than deal with what I’m getting the vaccine for, and when it comes to younger people that’s even more of a reason to protect them from any risks you or they may not be in control of. You spend maybe a week feeling under the weather for the HPV vax, but you’re much more protected against the disease and cervical cancer for the rest of your life. Especially if you’re genetically at a predisposition for cervical cancer, it’s super important. You never know what may happen, and it’s critical to protect yourself and those around you. Prevention is always the best healthcare, like you said with no smoking and a good diet!
