CERAVE - THE TRUTH | Why I dont support the brand.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The ethical reasons I no longer buy Cerave moisturizing cream or other products.
Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin. Today we have a slightly different video as I don't usually call out brands but when I feel they are misleading consumers and taking us for fools I have to share it with you.
This time its Cerave, the viral skincare sensation loved by influencers, dermatologists and beauty editors so why do I no longer buy from the brand?
All the options in this video are my own and I would of course encourage you to do your own research and of course look at some other influencers options of this brand before making your decision. I would love to know what you think of the brand and any individual products below.
I hope you enjoyed this video and will consider giving it a thumbs up as it really helps the channel. Follow us on Instagram @skinmad and see you in the next video.

When it comes to skincare especially, I don t think there should be any testing on animals as well. Skin care is for humans and the ingredients used in skin care are not revolutionary, they ve been tested over and over again already. I understand that the medical area has hugely benefited in the past hundreds years from experimenting on animals and humans (willing or unwilling) and we wouldn t be where we are right now should this haven t been done, but skincare isn t brain surgery or transplants, so the most it can do is give you a rash or a burn from some essential oil etc. Thanks for sharing your opinion on Cerave, I didn t know that, haven t been looking into it, though I own some hidrating face and body creams. I feel like you ve done ny homework instead of me 🙂🙂

I also agree that everyone should make their own decisions based on their preference as to whether they should use cruelty free products only or not. Here are the other L’oreal companies for anyone else who wants to go that route: clarisonic (going out of business) It cosmetics, Kiehl’s, Lancome, Urban Decay, YSL, Essie (nail polish), Garnier, Maybelline...there are more but they are mostly hair care brands.

Not all Parabens are bad . Parabens are bad is a Hype and myth . It is all about marketing for natural products . A lot of dark agenda there in the world ! Paraben is the safetest and best perservatives for skincare . Kindly check it out with smartness. The testing they do that said parabens are bad is that, they are putting so much paraben on the testing subject . It is an over dose super large amount that will never be put in a skincare products !!!!!!

I use the Cerave hydrating cleanser, baby lotion, moisturizing lotion. I have mature skin that has become more and more sensitive, quite possibly because it is getting thinner as I age. I also had to retire very early due to a life threatening autoimmune disease. Therefore, the prices are more accessible for me. It is disturbing to find out about their animal testing practices. I would love to know of some affordable replacements for these products, since I only use a few.

I actually love CeraVe! When I had my dermatology rotation over 10 years ago, this lotion was handed out by my preceptor like it was candy. So I used it since then, that is until I started on a serious cruelty free journey 6 months ago after watching a Dodo video of this beagle named Echo who was rescued from a testing lab in China. Echo suffered a lot, was found blind from the testing and had to have one of her eyes removed. She's happy now with a loving family, but whenever I think about going outside of my cruelty free stance I think of her and I stop myself. So yeah, it was heartbreaking for me to part from CeraVe but I had to. I am still using up all of the lotion I bought prior to going cruelty free. Luckily I have found alternatives with brands like the Ordinary and Purito. Unfortunately, I found out First Aid Beauty just started selling in China. This disappoints me so much because I love love their weightless sunscreen. This cruelty free journey can be frustrating but I think it's worth it to stick with it. So yeah, I'm glad that you're pointing this out about CeraVe's non-cruelty free status because it's very important.

After a serious illness, I had insanely sensitive skin. So many things would literally hurt when I used them, so I spent a fair bit of time trying to figure out what to use. Cerave cream kind of normalized my skin for a bit and I went through a lot of it quickly. I wouldn't say it transformed it, but probably because it's relatively simple/plain/boring that gave my skin the chance to heal and recover without completely freaking out. As I've got more into the skincare world (to be honest, a bit because I was trying to escape the news of the pandemic), there are other products I've added (or want to try but haven't purchased because I have tons on hand and need to use up). Cerave cream and the hydrating cleanser will likely remain part of my rotation though.

Whilst it’s definitely helped my very dry skin to an extent I think any moisturiser would have done the same, what with the fact I’d never used a moisturiser up until a month ago... mistakes have been made! Thank you for sharing your opinion! I have a question about the ceramide contents of their products. There is a reddit thread about why most ceramide products on the market are a scam. It talks about a blend of ceramides called SK-Influx that many manufacturers, including Cerave, add to their products but at a percentage where it doesn’t benefit your skin much. No influencers seem to bring it up but I was wondering if you think this is credible. Also I personally liked their cream but hated their sunscreen and hydrating cleanser.

Last year the makeup brand Wet 'n' Wild received a lot of criticism for this same type of duality in their stance on animal testing. Nars is guilty of the same tactics and MAC as well. It's interesting to see how skincare brands do this too. Thanks for this video. What I don't get about the hate for Cerave is that your "cruelty-free" favs Deciem and Paula's Choice have been sold to Estee Lauder and Unilever respectively, both of which are multinational mega-corporations that are not cruelty free by any stretch of the imagination. And the former owners of those supposedly virtuous and ethical companies sold out to megacorps because, at the end of the day, they are just as profit-driven as Cerave or any other affordable and accessible drugstore option. A cruelty-free skincare industry will require a lot more radical and systemic change than putting the onus on the consumer to buy a (probably non-essential and overpriced) product from an "indie" skincare brand that has prettier packaging and a trendier ingredient list. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. So as long as you're buying more BS that you probably don't need, your choices in skincare brands are no more 'ethical' than anyone else's.

Thank you so much for your info Mad about Skin. However, I wanted to say that I am left with a terrible dilemma myself when it comes to choosing skincare products. I refuse to order from Amazon. I am very against Amazon on how they treat their employees and I refuse to order any skincare products from them. This puts me in a very difficult position because I want to be cruelty free, but also cruelty free on the treatment of humans as well. I find it very hard to try new cruelty free affordable products that aren't in Amazon. This is why I love the Inkey List. I can order straight from them or Sephora, but everytime I go to a new skincare brand website to order from them, they force me to subscribe and have a monthly delivery which I don't like, or they don't have it in my country and won't let me order from the States or Internationally. I wish people would also try to send a message to Amazon with our money that we refuse this company to be cruel to their employees too.

I have dry, sensitive skin and I have been using the Moisturising Cream, The Salycilic Acid Cleanser and the eye cream. The eye cream is nothing wow, I admit but it's really affordable while the other two products that I mentioned really made a difference to my skin. I get my skin really calmed down and hydrated when I use them and I truly cannot complain. My mom also uses the moisturising cream and she loves it as she has the same type of skin as myself. In fact, her skin is even more sensitive and whenever it reacts badly to something, it gets soothed right away with the cream. I live in Ireland and the price point is really decent, although it might be slightly higher than in the States. I'm actually not sure and I need to double check that. The price point surely attracted me in buying these products, its good name also did (before it started getting hyped up by skincare influencers). Now, the fact that they are testing on animals.. That is a huge turn off for me and it makes me truly sad that I might have to stop using these products, at least until they stop that horrible practice.

CeraVe pricing is absolutely ridiculous here in Hungary - they're a pharmacy only brand and they charge prices comparable to La Roche-Posay, Eucerin etc. No thank you. Also, the famous CeraVe-in-the-tub leaves a really unpleasant texture on my skin, I don't even like to use it as a body moisturier. Never buying it again.

I stopped buying CeraVe about the time you made this video. My "Holy Grail ding ding" cleanser was the CV Hydrating, I used their PM moisturizer, and their SA cream was the best body lotion I ever used. Until spring 2020, when they did a major reformulation. The new cleanser was the first product I ever had a bad reaction to (I have very resistant skin), and I'm now afraid to try the replacements for my other items. I did an analysis of their ingredient listing. One of my hobbies is cosmetic formulation, I only make simple things, but have studied more complex stuff. The reformulations not only swapped out the parabens, but they significantly lowered the amounts of some other ingredients, ones that are more expensive and were why I loved my old CV. [Behentrominum methosulfate is one of them. This is an emulsifier that also works as a conditioner.] So they're no longer anything special or worth buying, IMO.

I switched off cerave and Cetaphil myself because they aren't cruelty free. That was enough of a reason for me. I do my best to find ways to live up to my ethics and values. I'm an aspiring vegan too. Easier said than done. But I see skincare and food a lot more as a personal choice these days. I have a harder time navigating my prescriptions with my dermatologist. Certain things I feel I have to do temporarily to get my eczema under control. But I did manage to switch to a synthetic hydrocortisone cream to be cruelty free there. I side note I agree with transparency and honesty too. Also a past dermatologist swore by the lotion for winter skin between your fingers and I did buy it back than for that reason. I'm using the last of my jar up and not buying anymore. There are plenty of other options on the market.

It feels sticky on my skin and it doesnt make my face feel hydrated one bit! It may have even irritated my skin and that surprised me because its supposed to be for sensitive skin. I actually feel like La Roche Posey or The Ordinary face lotion or even 100% Emu oil would be better for my skin. I have always tried to take good care of my skin and i have used exfoliating AHA & BHA products since i was in my early 20s. I just did my first TCA peel at home and it went well but i am 57 and need to find a holy grail of face creams! If you have any great suggestions please let me know! I cant use any of the face oils ir face creams that have Rosehip seed oil because i am very allergic to it for some reason. So far i dont like any of the Cerave products. It's unfortunate and I hope they change their testing practices in the future. I eat vegan but when it comes to facial cosmetics, my skin can't handle to change the brand, their products did wonders for my skin. I love their no nonsense ingredients approach. I love that they have no active ingredients in most of their products because that's actually good for my personal skin. I can see the issue with the brand but I can't help it. It seems dramatic but my skin literally suffers when I don't use their products.

I had used luxury lines more than a decade from Nordstrom prior, the products I had used was discontinued from the luxury brands, so I was on a journey to look for an alternative products I can access to purchase easily, non alcohol & good ingredients. So I gave Cerave a world after watching a dermatologist videos. I agree it is a basic skincare products with their signature ingredients. I find it didn’t transform my skin like the Vitamin C, retinol renewing serums & creams, hydrating lotion, dark circle eye repair, and tinted sunscreen. No change after 2 years. Recently, I decided to moved on my journey to more concentrated & advanced ingredients for my targeted needs. They all leave a dewey and greasy feeling and non absorbing. However, I find the hydrating cleanser works for my sensitive skin and still going to finish it.

Usually that can me found out by a simple google search. La Roche-Posay for example is owned by Neslté. Further, Nestlé owns 30% of L'Oréal, the world's largest cosmetics and beauty company, whose brands include Garnier, Maybelline, Lancôme and Urban Decay and as a matter of fact CeraVe. Honestly I wanted it like Cerave because everyone recommends it, but it just made my skin worse. Glad I'm not alone in this!

So far, the ONLY product I like from Cerave is their cleansing soap bar. I'm not impressed with any other of their products. 😐

Their sunscreen is too oily and breaks me out, clenser/lotion is great but it is not enough for acne prone skin. The one with salyzilic acid is a must in my bathroom. Creams break me out and I am not a fan of petrolatum in summer. Althou are great for lips and eye area.

Hello, I know this video is 3 years old. I bought Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and Moisturing cream and I am shocked how my skin badly reacted on these products. I have sensitive skin and after using them twice on my face I had like dry feeling and rash. I gave a second chance of Moisturing cream for my body, not my face, there is OK. I know that every skin is different, but after that experience and seeing your video, I would rather continue in my previous skin care routine with natural soaps from local manufacturer with shea butter and oils.

I was recommended the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser about 10 years ago by my dermatologist, and it was the worst recommendation a professional has ever given me tbh. At the time, I was dealing with cystic acne and EXTREME dry skin (until I used any type of moisturizer, then my face became EXTREMELY oily - ahh preteen years), and after using this product once, my face became bright red, itchy, and miserable. My mom still uses it to this day as her daily (after I gave her my bottle when it didn't work for me), and I tried it a few years back to see if anything changed and I had the same reaction. Not a fan!

@Kirsty Birsty the only lotions that have worked for me so far are the Aveeno daily moisturizer, and The Ordinary natural moisturizing factors + HA

Cerave in the past 2 years have transformed my hands after a lifetime of painful dermatitis and eczema However I wonder if the formulation has been changed because it seems more “ watery” and thinner. I might try emailing the manufacturers

I hate that the US and UK formulations are different! For example the US version of the SA cleanser has corn oil :( which can be a cause of breakouts

I don't know if everyone will agree with you, but this video is important because it makes us think and make our own informed decisions with our purchases. There's no shame if people like using CeraVe products and they work for them, but it's still good to be aware.
