CERAVE | Every Product Reviewed - Expert guide to Cerave moisturizing cream and other products

CeraVe skincare put to the test on oily skin, does it work and is it worth the viral cult following the brand has?
CeraVe has been around for years but it has just recently hit the headlines with KZread and Tick Tok influencers such as Hyram singing the praises of this drugstore skincare brand. In this video we look into whether the brand hype is justified and which products you should consider adding to your skincare routine.
Whilst I have oily skin I discuss how each of the products will react on dry and sensitive skin also.
I hope you enjoy this video and will consider giving it a big thumbs up, if you would like more of these full brand reviews then leave a comment letting me know which brand should come next.

Well I tried cerave after watching Hyram rave about it but my thoughts.....meh it's ok wouldn't rush out to buy it again I agree with your comments. I'll use the lotion up as a body lotion. Didn't know they did animal testing so it's a big fat NO way Jose from me.

I always use the Cerave Cream in the tub with the pump and the lotion version after the shower for my body tho not on my face. I love the cream cleanser for in the morning but I’ve been using the Kate Somerville cream cleanser for sensitive skin in the purple packaging which I like much much more. The eye cream you mentioned was absolute garbage, the spf moisturizer was horrible, and so was their vitamin C serum. I was going to try to use up the vitamin C on the tops of my hands/chest but I threw it away after about a week it was so so bad. Great video!

I love that you speak to your personal reservations about buying from a non cruelty-free brand but you don't throw out the entire brand and you still give honest reviews. That is so rare, especially in the youtube world. WAY too many skincare influencers allow their opinions to cloud their review. THIS is why I love this channel!

I love Cerave. Their foaming cleanser works for my skin. I wash my face a full minute so it works for me. I like their retinal serum and I did see improvement in my texture within a week and I back that with their PM moisturizer. This is probably controversial to say but I won't be getting rid of it because it has drastically improved my skin. I do respect your review though.

I hate that they’re not CF but tbh their line was so helpful in balancing and calming my skin. The moisturizing lotion was amazing and now I’m finishing their pm moisturizer, I’m glad they don’t break me out. I’ve had luck with the SA cleanser and the new 4% BP cleanser too. I try to test out new/different brands but Cerave is possibly the most reliable to keep my skin soft and clear.

Hello! Loving your honest opinions with all of your product reviews! I did not know that CeraVe was not CF until I saw this review of yours. Naturally I went on their FAQ and I saw this: Are CeraVe products tested on animals? No, CeraVe products are not tested on animals. Does this mean they’ve changed? Or is there an underlying disclaimer we are not seeing here? Thoughts?

great review! the highly emollient nature of the cerave products seems to be made for my dehydrated 37 y/o skin. your #1 was spot on-- the SA cleanser is my fave way to incorporate BHA's, as i feel as though i get the exfoliating benefit w/o the irritation. i just leave it on for a minute or two in the shower and i'm good to go! the hydrating cleanser is my other go-to, except when i'm pregnant. (for some reason my skin cannot tolerate parabens whenever i'm with child.🤷🏼‍♀️) i know some people with paraben intolerance do better with the foaming cleanser, as it is paraben-free AND sulfate-free. like you, i assumed that the foaming formulation had to include either SLS (or SLES), but thanks to a quick search on the inci decoder, i found that it contains a much milder foaming agent, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate which, unlike sulfates, is not flagged as a potential irritant. (perhaps the formulations vary in different countries?) i am currently trying the la roche posay toleriane gentle hydrating cleanser, which is nice, but i do appreciate a little foaming action when cleansing with my foreo. but! thanks to your recommendation, I plan to try the cleansing bar first, as I am currently traveling through the mainland (United States) and would prefer a less messy option-- so thank you for that! there was one product on your "fails list" that i really do enjoy: the eye repair cream. I understand why you don't care for eye creams, as they do tend to be glorified (and overpriced!) facial moisturizers, but I simply prefer the silkier texture of the eye cream to the denser texture of the moisturizing cream for the eye area. (It's like the moisturizing lotion isn't creamy enough and the moisturizing cream is too thick, while the eye cream is in that perfect Goldilocks zone in the middle.) maybe it's all in my head, or perhaps it's the addition of aloe, jojoba and sweet almond oils. it just melts right in and looks brilliant, either alone or under tinted sunscreen and/or concealer. another difference is supposed to be the addition of a "marine and botanical complex" to reduce puffiness and brighten the eye area. However, I haven't noticed much of a difference in that area, unless of course i layer my TO caffeine + egcg and/or hylamide subq eye serum beneath it. at the end of the day, .5 fl oz of the eye cream runs for about $7 (us) at target, (although I have seen it for as high as $12 at CVS drugstore) which is incredibly affordable compared to most eye creams on the market, especially the $98 i spent on .5 fl oz of the skinceuticals AGE eye complex, only to have it expire before i finished using it. 🙈 i also tend not to use anything that doesn't specifically say that i can use it on my upper eyelid area, which can't even be said about most of the eye creams out there. i guess it all just comes down to personal preference, yeah? oooh! one last thing! i just wanted to mention that the cerave tinted mineral sunscreen with SPF 30 has recently become one of my favorite sunscreens. i usually use the the elta md tinted spf 44, but the cerave gives more bang for your buck, AND it's closer to my natural skin tone, as the elta md is a bit lighter and cooler. both go on like a dream and do well with multiple applications throughout the day. (i usually apply 2 layers per application, starting with the cerave, then the elta md mixed with the colorescience sunforgettable spf 50 in bronze for my second layer--and that is my everyday summertime no makeup look.) i know you mentioned that you have oily skin, so i'm guessing that none of those would be up your alley, but just wanted to throw that in there, as it is my new fave cerave product! sorry about the tangent(s?!), your videos are just so inspiring that my inner skin care geek just comes bursting out haha! thanks again for your amazing content-- i look forward to it every day!!!😁

oooh! btw, the pm facial moisturizing lotion used to be my go-to for both morning and evening back in my 20's and into my early 30's-- basically back when I could slap any ol' cosmeceutical on my face and look radiant. i eventually gave it up, as my skin care needs began to change (aka i got older) and as my preferences became more sophisticated (aka i got douchier). once i started to really get into skincare, i was able to find other products that work better for me. once in a while, i'll try to go back to it, only to be reminded of what i didn't really like about it. it's the consistency-- it just seems as though it can't decide whether it wants to be a serum or a lotion, and therefore misses the mark on both accounts. then it just ends up in my gym bag, which works well when ya just want a single step to put on after showering. but seeing that i haven't been to the gym in what feels like eons, i've had zero need for it. of course, all this (self) talk now has me wondering if I should give it yet another try, as its lighter texture may prove be great for the humid north carolina summer weather that i'll soon be headed for. 🤔 you see! this is EXACTLY the thought process that leads me to acquiring an excess of products.... 🙅🏼‍♀️ ok-- last tangent for the day, i promise! 😜

Very thorough and fair review. I used to use several of their products but now I just use the hydrating cleanser. Once I finish it I won't be buying it again. The cruelty free issue is unfortunate and I agree with you that they should either just be up front about it or stop selling to China and go cruelty free. Their products are basic, but the cleansers especially are simple, effective and very cheap here in the US. And it's available everywhere here. But I'm done with the brand. Thanks for putting this in context!

I live in a harsh climate and so far their Moisturizing lotion in the pump tub is one of the few things that helps my skin in the winter. I can't use Cetaphil products - they must have some kind of inert ingredient they use in all their lotions, maybe a binder or a thickener, that drives my skin *insane*. If there is something similar out there that is cruelty free, I would love to hear about it. When I say "harsh climate", I mean sometimes it's -60C where I live.

Lol!!!! I love your reviews! I love their hand cream is a tad more “silicony” than the body cream but I do agree is very basic. The eye cream stings my eyes. The rest I like and I use but I have just learnt that it’s not cruelty free si next time I won’t be buying them. Can you point me towards unscented brands that are good for a 40 years old combination sensitive skin with rosacea?? I’m very reactive so I’m sad this is not cruelty free as it’s one of the brands that work for me... also I only use mineral sunscreens for the same reason. Any ideas that won’t break the bank and won’t irritate me? Thanks!

I am not a fan. The moisturizing lotion broke my skin out. I just bought the Facial Moisturizing Lotion w/ SPF since I ran out of sunscreen. I thought I’d try Cerave since Dr. Dray and Hyram spoke so highly of the brand. By the end of the first day using it i had three fresh pimples. I have acne-prone skin so i’ll know immediately if a product works well w my skin. I didn’t attribute my breakout w this product right away since i didn’t expect that from Cerave. Bummer. I managed to calm the flair-up with my PM routine. The next day the pimples went down a bit. So i gave the moisturizing lotion another try and my skin just erupted. Not doing that again. I’m not sure why or how that happened. I guess i’ll go back to using EltaMD (since i know it works for my skin) instead of experimenting with new products.

You said it all : "it's decidedly average" is a great summary of my thoughts on the brand. Other than the CF related question which, I agree, is very problematic, their products just don't have anything exceptional about them. I think that the hype comes more from the fact that in the US they're cheap, easy to find and irritants-free. But, outside of the US they're neither very easy to get (at least here in France that's the case) or cheap or unique in any other way unique. Are they garbage? No (ok, maybe the wipes). Are they exciting in any way? No again.

I know a lot of people are ANTI cerave but when you are a teen or you can't afford expensive skin care cerave is a great brand It's a great brand, but of course it's bad that it is tested on animals but if your are broke just use it

Hi thank you so so much for watching and I would recommend you look to something like the Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm or The Oridnary Squalane cleanser.. I hope this helps but please let me know if you would like some other recommendations and I did a whole video on cleansers I like which can be found here kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2SertCPdNKyeco.html

To answer your thoughts - yes they have resurfacing and renewing serums in the US. I love Cerave. I think you’re not the market for this simple, no frills line ☺️
