@@rogerthompson2005 Hi, yes I've had it for over a year now and it's really great. I would of preferred the 130N as mine is the i30nline. But it's out of my budget. Haha I love Richard's reviews. I was chuckling along, but also being informed - perfect. I'd pick the Kia as well. I've heard that the back seat is tilted a little too far back and can't be adjusted. But the interior view from the cockpit is gorgeous. I love me a flat bottomed wheel. There's a Queen song in there somewhere.

Great review with more than a touch of genuine humour, 👍. First time I’ve heard the Focus steering so roundly criticised, most tests say it is best, or close to best in class? However whole heartedly agree the interior and gearbox make it an also ran in this class. Love the way the Cerato goes down the road (don’t mind the firm ride), just wish it was available as a manual - not a fan of the (dry clutch) DCT in this and the i30.

We have a Cerato GT hatch. Brilliant little car. Lots of fun through the bends, and plenty of get up for day to day driving. Great review thank you. Heavily leaning toward the i30 n line premium. Cooled / heated seats. Rear vents. Also drive cerato but thought it was too harsh / firm, and overly revvy! Drive focus too. Liked engine but internals felt dated. And concerned about spirited driving fuel use!! 12L/100!! Crazy.

Hyundai i30 N Line for me. Recently test drove both the Cerato GT and the i30 N Line. The poor roads around where I live make the "less comfortable" suspension on the Cerato hard to live with day to day. Plus I prefer the conservative styling on the i30.

Looks like we are not the same. :D I test drove both of them after each other. It felt almost the same but I chose the Cerato GT (in sunset orange). The difference is not really huge between the "siblings". Maybe I can not feel the firmness because my current car is a 2009 Mazda3 SP25 and it felt almost the same as the Kia. I reckon I got used to it but did not feel the ride uncomfortable.

The Mazda 3 is just stunning, I would love to have one but can't
I love like Ford Focus St-line and Hyundai n-line Kia cerato gt and not like Mazda 3 g25
We have a Cerato GT (3500kms on it) and find it almost faultless. Front park sensors could stay on fulltime without a beeper. It's how I have my sensors set on Dmax. I'm constantly parking and forget they are automatically turned off above 20kph. Accumulated fuel economy 6.9L per 100km. Yes the ride is slightly harsh but no problem. Just buy one.
The answer is Mazda is the winner for sure
I don't trust these DCT transmissions and turbos, they will go out way before the driver's seat is worn. The Mazda's naturally aspirated engine and torque converter auto will outlast the others by miles. The Mazdas manual transmission will outlast everything. I never hear about longevity or reliability issues in these type of reviews.
I’m picking up a cerato gt tmr, hope i made the right choice
You should add civic hatchback in the comparison.
Took a Cerato GT for a test drive. Firm ride.. your not wrong.. The hand brake is awkward to use due to the lip on the centre console lid, and wish the drivers seat went lower... couldn't find a seat position that was comfortable. I would've bought it otherwise. Drives good at speed, stop start stuff is not the duel clutches best situation... Just wish the drivers seat was comfortable.. that and the Kia should have the red seat belts!!
I would have picked the Kia too. If only it came in that sexy Ruby Red like the Focus ☺
@carsguide
5 жыл бұрын
Yep, the Ruby Red is noice. Kia does a Runway Red for the Cerato but it's not as good. Talking of reds though the Soul Red from Mazda is one of the best non-custom car colours I've seen. Body shop painters aren't a fan though - it's a hard colour to match when they have to straighten bent panels. Cheers Richard

I was a VW guy but when they started cheapening out on the materials and then putting silly engines in I started having doubts. Then their scams started showing up and they cancelled the Scirocco, which was the final nail in the coffin. If you ever sat in the new VW Arteon and got into the basic new Mazda 3 then you would feel like they were 6 years apart. Both the styling and interior would make me feel ashamed of giving VW money for what they're giving us lately.

Stefan Stojkovski I’ve tried the ST, Mazda3 and the normal Kia. Of those three, the Focus handles the best and most sporty, by far. I’ve heard complaints about the AT though. The one I drove was a manual and it was spot on. The Mazda 3 is very comfortable and pleasant to drive, but not sporty. By far the nicest interior though. The Kia, the normal Kia not the GT, was pretty average and that one was with the AT I tried. I really would encourage you to try them all if you’re in the market. Thank you - glad you liked it and glad you're enjoying the Cerato GT. It's not just one of the smartest buys on the market right now, it's one of the best drives. I really like talking to the Australian engineers who painstakingly tune the suspension of Kia's, and the Cerato GT has been given so much work by them to get it right. Many much more expensive brands don't get any Australian input. Have fun. Cheers Richard
Great review! Just picked up one a week ago, black and with 3300 on the clock (ex demo). Fun indeed but agree it would have been better to have the 2l turbo 180kw engine. However, it runs hella rich and I'd like to know if theres anyone doing ECU tuning to lean it out and get maybe 10-20kw more outta it. Food for thought.
@williamedmonds711

Yep easy to get another 30kw from dyno. Well worth it for 1k
@richardggeorge

It runs rich to stop the turbo over-temping (I used to tune engines for an OEM). Sure the backyard tuners can ruin the long term durability for the sake of a few more kW but if you want to own it for a while then it's not a good idea especially if you get pre-ignition and blow the engine up
we bought the Cerato GT - having had a couple of golf GTi's I likened the cabin / steering wheel DCT setup to a VW ..I think they have copied it, as its similar...I like everything about the GT other than its harsh ride around our crappy roads, especially in town ...not so noticeable on the open road though, as it has really good handling and cornering. Im just about to put 16" wheels on it with 60 profile tyres to hopefully cushion the around town ride somewhat.

The start button on the Focus is perfectly placed, you just don’t know how to use it. Place your left hand vertically on the dash and the button is exactly under your thumb. Works very well. The rotary gear selector (like on Jaguars) takes about a day (for a slow learner) to get used to and it frees up a lot of space on the centre console. And you don’t have to turn it to P when you stop. Just turn off the engine and it automatically rotates to P. Brilliant!
