Centroid Acorn CNC Retrofit Complete

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Centroid Acorn CNC Retrofit of the Dyna Myte 2800 milling machine is complete. This week the machine makes its first chips and I look back at what it took to get there.

    Glad I ran across your channel. We have an older cnc knee mill sitting that we are going to do the centroid acorn system on. I hope these videos will give me an idea of what I'm tackling. I hope your channel finds continued success and thank you for the content.

    Saw you on FB. Liked-Subscribed-Notified. Keep up the great work. I've re-done a DynaMyte 3000 lathe with Mach3 and G540, etc. SuperMax YCM-30 mill, scratch built a CNC Router, Retro'd a sherline mill & lathe, and 2 south bend lathes.. its an addiction

    I did field service on fanuc and mitsubshi controls , I built a cnc router and hated mach 3, converted to centroid acorn and love it , it is the closest to running a production cnc

    yea.. I have DM2400.. and it is run by open loop servos and a 350W spindle motor.. These where typically used in school settings to teach basic CNC machining. I'd make a box for your machine and then use mist cooling, as at high speed, a flood coolant is going to mist to some extent anyway.

    Hi Pete! Congratulations on the progress of work with the machine. I was left behind after replacing the stepper motors with AC servos. The machine works in 3 axes, it remains to replace the spindle motor with an AC servo. I have already bought it, I have the driver, but it turned out that the encoder does not match. I have original sheet metal cases for the DM2800, do you want me to dimension them?

  • @PeteRondeau

    @PeteRondeau

    Thanks! And I hope you get back to your conversion. The measurements would be excellent! I have downloaded lots of machine pictures from the internet so I have a basic idea of what the pieces should look like. If you could get me a few dimensions, I could figure out the rest.

    Hello Pete. Could you get the encoder on the servo motor of the spindle to work with acorn ?

  • @PeteRondeau

    @PeteRondeau

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well, I got it working in so far as it showed numbers on the screen but these were based on the motor rotation and had nothing to do with my actual spindle speed. I've planned all along to fit an encoder to the spindle so trying to get the motor encoder to work properly by somehow translating it to match the pulley settings was never really a concern of mine. Sorry I can't be of any help here.

    Good job! I do understand the emotional drain of long projects ;-) My Dm2400 and 3000 have been in surgery on and off for 10 years. Maybe 1 day. On another note, I can only imagine how much better your machine would have performed with about 3" less of stick out?

    Heh, I've been working on a Dyna DM4800 for 3 years now, though to be fair, one of those years I didn't touch it at all. The whole machine is nearly cleaned and almost ready to start putting back together. It's amazing how small this 2800 compared to the 4800 - you could probably take the table and saddle off of this thing by hand, whereas on the 4800, almost everything that comes off needs and engine hoist to move (sometimes just barely)

    Yes! I was very surprised how large the 4000 series was compared to the 2000 series. Almost bought one on eBay until I started to think about the listed weight and dimensions. Entire different animal!

    I luckily stumbled across your page researching another DM2800 mill I found for sale that sat around for a long while. How aggressive have you been with hogging material with it so far? Have you cut steel yet? I'm really interested in what the potential capabilities of this mill can be. If I end up buying this DM2800 I can take some measurements for you, it looks relatively taken care of from what little I've seen so far.

  • @PeteRondeau

    @PeteRondeau

    3 жыл бұрын

    I have not really put this machine to a good test yet. It is certainly capable of cutting steel, how aggressive of a cut I don't know. I can say that the build quality is as good and probably better than other machines of a similar size. It is a solid machine and more rigid than my RF30 mill-drill, but I don't think it is going to have as much power at the spindle. Time will tell. Thanks for watching!

    @@PeteRondeau looking forward to seeing some parts made with this machine. I ended up winning my dm2800 auction, not sure if I get any kind of documentation with it though. Do you happen to have the manuals in digital form? I'll trade ya for some detailed measurements of the chip guards lol.
