They are of such a unique design they absolutely should be preserved! It's crazy that we are losing such amazing buildings. Great that you guys are showing these to us or most of us would never see them or even know they exist.
You know, watching these video's, one would hope that someone in the government would realize that this is our history and should be better preserved. Looks like a great location for a battery museum.
Great explore Ian, beautiful very old British history there. Thanks for sharing 👍
I can't believe you've never had Bovril. I used to love Bovril flavoured Smiths crisps.
Great video, what a shame that the site is not restored and then open to the public, its all in great nick and could be used as part of history. I suppose it will just be left to fall down and then the place will be lost to history. Well done chaps.

I wanted to open it as a child. A fence separates it from where the landowners work but they won't sell it:
great explore Ian & Chris
Ian again metal detector!!! Hehe anyhow great explore again thanks for posting I can't wait to see what Tuesday holds on your channel.
Nice slight of hand at the beginning...lol. Good adventure as always!!
Another great vid, and another stuning object. in realy good shape to. keep up good work mates. Cheers!
That is a very interesting place. Very nice that somebody chopped holes in the bricked over door ways.....Thanks for the video.
great vids my man keep it up, loves me some mlitary history.
Loved that incredible looking ammo elevator! Has a real foreboding feel to it from the outside, horror movie level!
Great video! I love this place (even though it's small.). By the way, the area that had lots of blue paint next to the generator room is apperantly a "shifting lobby".
Great video guys
Interesting be looking forward to next Friday's vid
watched loads of your videos and I think it may be an idea to invest in a rope ladder maybe. keep up the good work. another great video!
Another great explore guys.maybe you could Post some old photos of how these awesome places looked when they were opperational.
another great video from you guys at IKEA very inspiring and I shall be doing some more videos on world war two locations in Cornwall but I'll see the weather is not very good at the minute anyway keep up the great work chaps
Amazing video Ian, I love gun towers like that, I hope to explore them some day, my personal favourite is like giant gun emplacements
Interesting vid again bro, there was mention of the floor sounding hollow in the battery I wonder if it has more rooms underneath. Be great if you get permission to document the towers guys. atb
Very impressive video.
Bovril very popular here in Canada. Red sticker is the beef Bovril and the yellow is the chickens. It's look like supposed to have a kind of bridge between the towers on the second floor like the sea fort.😌 (sorry for my English 😌)
at 9.10 the ammo elevater that was really ool and its still there to nobody stole the parts unreal verry cool thanks for another hella kewl video !
Awesome video thanks to bad you couldn't see in the upper area maybe a sliding pole for the camera or something like that might work and a safe way to look at stuff. Thanks again for showing us the forgotten history.
1st great video mate :)
Great vid as usual. Might help to get some Spidy wrist squirters so you can scale the sides of these installations........
The flaky white paint looked like whitewash to me which is lime based which may also explain all the chalk But the best bit for me was all the small hooks near the roof in several rooms Inc the generator room as they were for hanging hammocks Even in the 18th century the towers would have been manned by the Royal Navy with each rating allowed 18ins to kip in just like aboard ship. Fascinating to see.
awesome.thanks
another good video fellas, sorry Chris had a chuckle at 14.06 when you went out the window.. literally. get some gloves fellas I could still restore that sash window ;-)
Hello, a very fascinating video and interesting history. what about some small extending ladders, would be useful in some cases.
Great vid
Just a thought but the generator room may of actually housed a merlin engine the same as a spitfire just modified slightly for generation purposes of course. There is still a working one of these WW2 under the old control tower at Gatwick. I've been lucky enough to see it running. It's stood on the wooden blocks that are identical to what's here in your video. 🤔😎
That.. Barrier.. that you found in the entrance is where the magazine work force would change from their regular uniforms and big hob nail boots into the special magazine clothes before entering. The magazine clothes had no buttons, it had tie fastenings and NO pockets so that nothing could be taken into the magazine that could cause a spark. The regular boots would be changed for soft (rope) soled shoes. It was an extremely serious offence to go past that barrier without changing clothes. There would have been a centre section in that barrier which you stepped over, a sort of physical reminder to stop and change clothes.. :)

Shifting Lobby?
I love all vlogs
Shame the Kent History Forum post on this has gone. Had some great maps. One of which showed the tunnels being symmetrical which suggests a redesign or something
Just thought that you might be interested, and possibly horrified to know that The Grain Tower is on the market as a desirable residence. It has even been given a postal address, which is likely to get it sold: No. 1, Thames. I wasn't very happy when I saw this, either.
something I want you to bring next tower explore .. that is a grappling hook and rope.. Then you can get to any height safely.. just make sure its hooked on properly.. Chris can climb them no worries... would love to see the top of these towers or others you go to... Maybe even do a quick safety lesson with someone who knows how to use a grappling hook the right way... Keep up the hard work :) love yas:)
Grandfather & Father worked in Sheerness Dockyard at the start of WW2 father was in the Home guard in Sheerness to 1941 aged 19 was called up to the RAF. He often talked about his time in those days, patrolling along the seafront. In the estuary I dont know if it is still there,(was in 1990) a sunken Canadian Merchant ship carrying high explosives and ammunition you could see the masts and funnel above sea level, was buoyed off for safety reasons.

would love to accompany you and your team
the camera pass at 18:34 looks really cool for some reason
I dunno what that ring is but it was made by Sir William Arrol & Comapny (founded in 1870)
Bravo
Don't know how you guys fit through some of these holes dude. I would definitely fall on my face haha .

I used to knock holes through walls, dig massive holes and cut off locks, and no, no pictures!. J.
nice video
Have you ever tried to find the ww2 sites on the south east coastline where a defensive weapon would have been used if the krouts invaded in their boats. I see it on TV a few years back and the concept looked deadly. Basically there were stations a mile apart round the coast where if Hans and Co decided to gate crash in their boats the crafty islanders would set the sea on fire causing Frits to burn and his boats to either head back to the mainland or burn and sink. There must have been huge tanks to store the flammable liquid, buildings for the pumps and buildings for the men operating the defensive system. Interesting as it was never used.
excellent video, really enjoyed that thanks for sharing, shame about mr security complex but maybe he didnt quite make the police force hey
another great video thanks guys, one thing that puzzle's me sorry I don't know your name (the guy who wears the German hat and uniform) I've never seen you drive a car, it's always Chris I just wondered if you can't drive because it's always Chris who uses his car? and who shouted was it security wanted to know what you where doing, I'm just being nosey lol
Question mate, Im from the US and am tempted to visit the England to see these sites, I'm offly skinny and willing to climb places you don't want too but as you stated others are determined. I could get into the tight windows of that most cant fit threw. I'd be willing to record for you if your willing to let a American explore with you! Tho thats prospect future and I'm just curious as to if you ever would.
Nice one guys :) you could use a drone to look in the high one's you never know whats up there . i also think you should invest in some good boot's better than trainers guys for if you guys get hurt then we lose out of all the wonderful place's you all go to :)
What did the chap shout at you? The place is just begging for a "Drone Investigation" (exterior)

the owners of the docks count going there as trespassing (even though there's a fence segregating it from the docks AND they don't even use the land.)
More nice wartime history👍
The hooks in the wall look like they may have been used to sling hammocks.
Hi...As you thought the round plate at the beginning is a naval pom pom gun mount positioned by Sir W. Arrol & Co. More in the link (sorry if you already found this) www.kenthistoryforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=994.0
you do everything ide love to do
hi, what camera did you use?
Pleasing to see a lack of crap graf on the white walls of those magazine rooms, and the unvandalized ammo hoist.
Fantastic video have seen pictures of these in books before, would like to see the gun towers built out at sea.
Please get some boots those trainers just don't fit in 😂
"You're not allowed up there lads!"
Reppin hard with a full crew! lol
Those two are the fancy ones. Not interested in getting into buildings....
Had to chuckle... 11:38 'might be graffitti in there' ... just 'DAVE' in huge writing 😂 but you never know!
tell Chris to buy some telescopic steps from Screwfix they be ideal for today's jaunt 😉
find out who owns that land and the towers approach them to officially document them with a use of a ladder

Bovril, the mans version of Marmite
There are always Swastika's on abandoned buildings, but somehow people always get 'em the wrong way around.
@brianartillery
7 жыл бұрын
A reversed Swastika is sometimes called a 'Fylfot', and, as with the Swastika, before the Nazis made it a symbol of oppression and revulsion, was an ancient [5000 years+] good fortune symbol, originating in Asia, although, interestingly, appearing in Native American art, too.
