I'm still hoping mariners win the grand final but I don't think I've ever seen a worse referee performance in the a-league and the bar was already so low. Mariners very lucky to go through here.

@@Limon1366 I don’t think it’s just the ref Mariners had some calls go their way but there was plenty of hard challenges that got no call from both sides also. Mariners definitely just defended most of the game Sydney had a lot of the ball but couldn’t make it happen ref of not they squandered the opportunities

@@jmcmotorsportstv sure for the most part Sydney failed to make their dominance count but they had a clear goal ruled out and a clear penalty denied. Referee mistakes got mariners over the line.

Another solid display from Alireza Faghani.

What a disgrace some of these decisions where. The offside when the player wasnt interfering at all and the blatant handball. Soccer in australia has become ridiculous yet we sit there not able to question anything about the referees and VAR.

Kaltak had to step around a player in an offside position, and Gomes was certainly off at that stage. Fractions of a sec count in this game. The ball was certainly over the line, but without having to divert theres every chance Kaltak would have got it on the line. I'm sure other teams teams have had goals rules out during the season for a player off. It's not a new rule.

Yeah I'm puzzled as to why it wasn't given. Clearly we need more cameras and better technology at the games. Look how well it was Refereed at the FIFA World Cup 2022 and Womens FIFA World Cup 2023. Goal Line Technology Offside Assistant (virtual camera) 100 cameras on each game

How the Max Ballard handball in the box wasn’t given (and how it didn’t make this highlights reel) is beyond me. Need a fucking inquisition on these referees. The Arzani handball earlier was a shocker and would have killed the other semi if it weren’t for Izzo’s class. This league is fucked on so many fronts but the officiating tops its list of fucked things

Hmmm, in accordance with the laws of the game - Max Ballard had his arm by his side (in a natural position) - the closeness of the shot and his inability, due to the speed of the shot, to be able to move his arm out of the way led to the non-penalty decision. Please enlighten me - are you a person who believes that every tackle is a foul, every foul is a yellow card or every yellow card deserves red card even though the laws of the game define what each offense is determined as?

Blame rules by VAR! In the past neither would be handball as there was no intent to affect the ball. Now we have 'arm in a natural position' standard. Arzanis was straight up in the air, Ballards was next to his body and pushed back by the ball.

Nathan Magill- FA Referees Manager, should answer fans questions and address why there are consistently errors with the games. It's the operators of the technology or lack of technology. If used and implemented correctly and efficiently it can benefit football.

Amount of people in the comments that don't understand how offside works. It's not just if you get the ball, it's also if you interfere in the play going on at all, and the attacker who was offside clearly got in the way of the defender going to clear the ball

Should've been 3-0 Sydney and we have a Big blue GF next week. Oh well can't change shit now just have to wait for next year..

@@NotSoMLG_OCE It wasn't clear it crossed, it looks like it did, but as we saw in the world cup, just because it looks like it crossed from one angle doesn't mean it definitely crossed, they don't have the right angle so they can't be sure. Also Balard handball shout was the most textbook case of hands in a natural position, they couldn't have been more by his side, and idek what you think the other penalty shout was???

Why are we concerned with players partaking in match fixing when the impartiality of referees generating the resujts is clearly on display

Bulls vs Sky Blues. 2 red cards. 9 men, 1-0 win. A reminder of the inconsistent poor decisions by Referees including those in VAR TRYING TO FIND Freekicks/Fouls from nothing. Yellow Cards and Red Cards. The booking of coaches (Mariners) was crazy, then assistant coach red carded. Referee then was like an abusive power hungry egocentric police officer demanding their free big mac and coffee at Maccas.

A complaint was made to FIFA.

That Balard handball is not a penalty but they have to stay consistent after that Arzani handball.

The two worst refs in the entire A League refereeing the two semis. Absolute joke. Daniel Elder and Alireza Faghani are both terrible every week.

Anyone who actually watched the game knows Sydney FC should have won 2-0! Firstly he disallowed a clear handball that the A-league was so embarrassed by they didn’t put it into the highlights. He then disallowed a very clear goal! Fabio Gomes 100% didn’t interfere with play. He didn’t touch the ball, he didn’t touch the player. There was no way!

I like the way the ref handled this game on the whole. Didn’t stop play when players were trying to get fouls given. Push on is a good style of reffing and minimal calls on penalties (which suck as a way to win). Players just need to get that ball in the net using skill, not by fouls.

it was the right decision, he was blocking the defender who could have got there quicker to clear the ball and probably save it from crossing the line. he has to go around costing him an inch.

I actually though he was reasonably impartial. Both sides had claims for fouls that weren't given because that's who Faghani is. Even numerous handballs during the game were let go on the pitch as they should have been being incidental. Balards arm was in a natural position and ball wasn't heading towards the goal, thus not a penalty, but the with uncertainty about what constitutes a handball these days I can understand Sydney fans in their desperation making the claim.

@@ruddo1970 hand is extended from the body. It's not a natural position. Kaltak chopped down JCP in the 8th no pen, Theoharus shouldve seen red, the handball and that disallowed goal. Mariners got lucky. Yes they rightfully won that fist leg and brought the advantage to home but Sydney were robbed.
