The Stryker is just an infantry support vehicle with a large gun, the worst among the Stryker family of support vehicle. The Centauro is actually 2 completely different vehicle, the B1 (1991) and the B2 (2014) with very little in common between the two variants. It is also a fully fledged tank destroyer designed in the role of a light tank. Just the difference in weight and width between the two tells the whole story.

A centauro 1 was actually sent to the US in early '00s to allow American army to use it as a basis for the design of their own IFV, or FSV armored vehicles. The Centauro 2, with the 120 mm smoothbore gun, is actually more than a fire support vehicle. Technically, it is a tank hunter, designed to ambush and destroy main battle tanks; of course a centauro may not win a 1 to 1 duel against a T72 or a T90, because of the inferior armor resistance. However, the Centauro is much more mobile, faster, nimble, cheap to make and to run, and much more appropriate in the mountain scenario typical of northern Italy: narrow roads, steep ravines, crevasses, forest, where a large tank would be clumsy at best. Centauros are supposed to move, hide, wait, and welcome the tank with the unsurvivable blast of its 120 mm gun. A far less expensive way to kill tanks than missiles, and of course can operate as well as fire support vehicle, or mobile artillery (gun raised 60 degrees, it is technically a howitzer). Not the most powerful beast ever made, but extremely efficent as for cost/benefit. Can go anywhere a tank goes, or drive 100+ kmh on normal roads, with a fraction of the cost of a battle tank. And no tank can survive 3 or 4 centauros shooting at it. Basically, the Centauro frame is a good idea. Would love to see few dozen of them sent to Ukraine, to blast old soviet T54s and T55s, a thing a Centauro 2 is perfectly capable of doing.

If the centuaro can get its shot off before the enemy can kill it, it has a good chance of disabling the tank in one hit

Bro the Centaur can both break a T-90 and an Abrams, the hit resistance is much higher than what you said. it is considered the best armor of a tank destroyer in its category....

The Centauro 2 is crazy but it's not at all cheap as you say, it costs more than a tank mainly due to the small number of vehicles produced

The striker is a pour copy of the centauro.

Designed to be transported via airplane if I read correctly, so that's why it's lighter.

as of 2023, you don't see tank-to-tank battle alot - 105mm version is already being phased out. Tank hunters are now done by Javelin crews or drones. These vehicles fill the roles that were traditionally been done by tanks - they are cheaper and more responsive to infantry's requirement. These are NOT designed to kill other armored vehicles - they are designed to support infantry in ground to ground battle. Enemy tanks will be defeated by much effective and efficient drone/Javelin combo, while Strikers pour enemies with 30mm.

Obviously both were developed as multirole to both support infantry and counter armored vehicles and MBTs.

No, lo stryker è una macchina completamente diversa per ruoli completamente diversi: basta guardare ai pesi per rendersene conto. Uno è un cacciacarri e l'altro è un veicolo di supporto fanteria con un cannone a bordo. Smettiamola con questi campanilismi ridicoli.

Tanti "esperti" raccontano che gli americani in Afghanistan sono rimasti sorpresi dalle prestazioni e affidabilità del C1 e decisero di affittarne una decina per studiarlo. Fu allora che nacque lo Stryker, adattandolo alle loro necessità, misero anche un cannone da 120, ma alle prove di sparo il veicolo si rovesciava su un fianco. Credo che abbia ancora problemi quando sparano di fianco anche con il 105, questo è quello che che dicono gli "esperti" in giro, poi magari non è vero ma ciò non toglie che il C2 è un bel giocattolino.
