I had both my knees replaced at 62 years old with the Press Fit implants. I am very happy with the results. I had therapy twice a day for 3 months and I have all of my range of motion back with ZERO problems.

What isn’t being addressed is how long does it take for the glueless prosthetic to adhere sufficiently enough that there isn’t a chance of it shifting before fully engaged by bone growth

I understand you said it would take about 8 weeks to get back to full activity after a cementless (press fit) TKR - is that about the same amount of time using cement? Many thanks!

What is the age limit you would put a cementless knee replacement in a patient? As you grow older your bone does not generate growth making fixation for a cementless not always possible. I had a NexGen cementless knee replacement installed on my right knee last year due to osteoarthritis. I was 60 years old then! After increasing pain over the past year, my new doctor ex- rayed the knee and showed me the ex-ray and said the implant did not take to the bone. There is separation between the bone and prosthetic. I will need another implant only this time it will be a cemented prosthetic. He has also ordered blood work and a bone scan for the knee and hip. I truly don't believe a cementless knee is for everyone.

We are sorry to hear that your knee implant has possibly failed. It is generally recommended that these types of implants be performed on patients under the age of 55. That being said, there is ample data, both national and international, that shows positive results in patients past that age.
