‘Circle Of The Tyrants’ is taken from the album ‘To Mega Therion’. Originally released on 27th October 1985. The lineup for this recording was : Tom Gabriel Warrior: voice/guitars/effects, Reed St. Mark: drums/percussion/effects & Dominic Steiner: bass/effects. Produced & engineered by: Horst Müller. Co-produced by: Tom Gabriel Warrior. Assistant engineering by: Tom Gabriel Warrior & Rick “Lights”. Recorded, mixed & mastered at Casablanca Studio, Berlin, September 14 - 28, 1985.
Lyrics
After the battle is over
And the sands drunken the blood
All what there remains
Is the bitterness of delusion
Circle of the tyrants
The immortality of the gods
Sits at their side
As they leave the walls behind
To reach the jewel's gleam
Circle of the tyrants
The days have come
When the steel will rule
And upon his head
A crown of gold
Your hand wields the might
The tyrant's the precursor
You carry the will
As the morning is near
I sing the ballads
Of victory and defeat
I hear the tales
Of frozen mystery
Your hand wields the might
The tyrant's the precursor
You carry the will
As the morning is near
The new kingdoms rise
By the circle of the tyrants
In the land of darkness
The warrior that was me
Grotesque glory
None will ever see them fall
And hunts and wars
Are like everlasting shadows
Where the winds cannot reach
The tyrant's might was born
And often I look back
With tears in my eyes
Grotesque glory
None will ever see them fall
And hunts and wars
Are like everlasting shadows

Greetings from germany! December 1985: asked my aunt to buy the "To mega therion" album for my birthday as a present. And yes: she did! Told me that the people in the record store looked at her as if she had gone totally mad. No wonder why: the cover artwork was extreme and no one expected that such a lady would by such a hard stuff. What a cool surprise to get this masterpiece from her hands. Still have it today. Sadly i never saw Celtic Frost live on stage. But they were god-like here in germany back in those days within the extremely fast growing (Thrash) Metal Scene. This song here is.....forever! Greater than great!

I dont think the music press knew what to do with them (particularly after that thankfully brief glam phase). They just didnt fit neatly into any category. They sounded like thrash kinda, but it wasnt thrash and they dressed more trad metal. Black metal wasnt really invented yet, and anyway they where never panda enough for that, but it probably the closest fit since it was definately dark as hell, especially the older post-hellhammer stuff. And it wasnt technical so it didnt really fit death either. Not really biker enough to be accused of being a motorhead knockoff. They where just their own thing,

Many of my buddies back then where hip hop heads or into acid house etc, but they loved celtic frost for some reason, they didn't like any other metal at all. Always made me chuckle. Me, thats all I listened to when I was 18 for the whole summer. The drum beats alone where brutally heavy.

So hard to categorize-so don't bother. This band was the birth of so many things along with their counter parts in Mercyful Fate, Venom and Bathory. I love first wave black/death/thrash metal that predated a lot of what ended up taking credit for later. I find myself far more enamored with these bands than anything going on after it. Though you hear some glimpses of this in Dark Throne, no one can out do Celtic Frost.

Death Metal Songs can also include satanic lyrics. There are also technical differences between Death and Black Metal. I think Death Metal works more with growling and guitars sounding deeper. In according to this, Celtic Frost was in 1984 and 1985 near to Death Metal and a very important influence for later bands in this genre

As I read Hellhammer have been on a small compilation in 1984 called 'Death Metal' - Tom Warrior suggested the name to the label. It was the same year Death released their first EP and Possessed released their Death Metal demo. Celtic Frost where founded in late of 1984 so the genre kind of already existed admittingly, but they invented it at least parallel to Possessed and Death.

cold lake is a brutal album, musically. the vocals sucked (just like on pandemonium, and vanity nemesis (who told Tom the nasally vocals were okay?), and visually (glam metal look), but then again, they started this on pandemonium and continued on Vanity nemesis. so they have a whole trilogy of the glammy death material with nasally vocals.
