You and I studied with professor Starker at the same time. I remember very vividly your beautiful singing sound back then, that you have certainly kept, together with an excellent technique and a very kind personality combined with a fabulous talent for teaching. I ,as an orchestra player( 36 years in the Israel Philharmonic) also needs to be reminded of the big " secrets" of good playing from time to time. Shifting being one of the many aspects of playing. Thank you for doing so. Janos would be very proud of you. You certainly honour him well. Congratulations and Bravo!

Thank you very much for your effort. It would be helpful if you could mention the source of the Starker shifting exercise. Here kzread.info/dash/bejne/jGqal82cmqzXZqw.html around min 36 Starker is showing his gymnastics. I also use it for my piano students.

I very much appreciate your teaching. So generous to share your talents and lessons with us. In this way, you honor Professor Starker in the best way possible. I took up the cello nearly a year ago (as an adult learner). I had always wanted to play, but this was not possible for me as a child. I took both classical guitar and violin lessons--a year of each--in the past, and loved those lessons. Taking up cello as an adult has been humbling. But I will persevere. Your teaching style is so thorough and clear and kind. Thank you for sharing your gifts. Two things: How did you like Bloomington? And I'm glad you didn't have the cigarette hanging from your lips. It's the one habit of Professor Starker *not* to emulate. ;) Merry Christmas!
