Cell vs. virus: A battle for health - Shannon Stiles
How does your body fight a virus? Take a look inside your cells to witness how they produce antibodies and fight to keep you healthy.
--
All living things are made of cells. In the human body, these highly efficient units are protected by layer upon layer of defense against icky invaders like the cold virus. Shannon Stiles takes a journey into the cell, introducing the microscopic arsenal of weapons and warriors that play a role in the battle for your health.
Lesson by Shannon Stiles, animation by Igor Coric.

Just tell your immune system to glory spam lysosomes, sure, you might lose a lot of fatty acids in the process, but it's worth it. Additionally, your cell can create a protein called Slicer Enzymes, which are made when mRNA exits a pore from the nucleus, goes to a ribosome. And the ribosome makes it out amino and nucleic acids, but recycles the nucleic acids. The final result is the protein. The function of the slicer enzyme is to destroy/"chop up" viral RNA strands, however, certain viruses enter the membrane directly, sometimes even being inside vesicles, and release their viral RNA right at a ribosome. So lysosomes can help dissolve the virus before it can do so. Lastly, the most deadly type of virus is a virus that enters the membrane, and injects its DNA into the nucleus. When the nucleus is infected, your cell will only produce viral mRNA, so the ribosomes will make even more viruses, which will go on to infect the same cell until membrane damage results in lysis, the cell bursting open. Almost all viruses kill cells by entering/exiting them, which in turn damages the membrane.

A very elementary, but rather effective, video for the layman. Do note that the video very understandably (you have to cut the detail of somewhere) leaves out professional antigen presenting cells, the MHC complex, and the role of T-Cells and their formation in the thymus. Accordingly, the video implies that "normal" cells makes antibodies directly which really isn't the case as this is the job of humoral immunity through B cells. Just a small note for anyone wishing to follow up in more detail.
