I always enjoy listening to you play and review music gear Euge. The skillshare link is one I can definitely use trying to learn Cubase 12 Pro that I am just switching to. I don't know what it is with Celestion's these days though. Either they have changed how they sound or I have changed in what I like and don't in tone. I've changed every one I've had in my amps and cabinets to either Weber's or Warehouse speakers. Most recently trying Warehouse Retro 30 speakers to replace Vintage 30's and I couldn't be happier. So much fuller and articulate tone to me compared to the V30's, making my Mesa Mark V sing.
I was fortunate enough to get a half stack Marshall DSLH100 with the cabinet with G12T75. And they only took a maybe 5 or 7 hours for the speakers to get worn in and i love it. P.s. your English is excellent keep up the cool videos

As tired as the “modern metal” sound is, the V30s just work better in this context. The Greenbacks are a bit tinny by comparison. That being said, I still like the greenbacks a lot for rock tones. A high gain amp into Greenbacks just instantly invokes that classic 80s sound.

Yeah, but I'd also like to hear a comparison on a tuning somewhere in between, like B or C. Dunno, G# kinda feels a bit... art for the sake of art? Or just lower than what I like, to not sound condescending.

I am a low to moderate gain Marshall guy and love greebacks! For this application I think the V30 is clearly the way to go for clarity with the rhythm parts. It's very close for the leads. I really like both. Depends on when you've completed the song with all tracks. The fewer, then greenback. Many tracks then V30 for leads. No rules!

It works if you keep your master below noon or you can probably go a bit louder if needed. The amp puts out 40watts only when the master is cranked 👌.

When just playing, I prefer the V30. I love the response and pick attack I get from it that the Greenback just won't do for me, especially when palm muting a lot. The Greenback though has this awesome angry growl when playing chords that the V30 won't do as well. If you have the time, I'd really like to see/hear a comparison of these two alongside the T75 through the JCM 800 (and preferably in a more modest tuning) Cheers =)

I liked the GB’s in isolation but the V30’s in the mix. The mix with a blend was really good, maybe the best of both worlds. The Creamback H75 would probably a good comparison with the V30 too. I’ve heard nothing but good sounds from the Alnico creams but who wants to drop that $$$ lol

I think these would be a great L/R compliment to each other but one thing: I must be losing my hearing because bass on the the repeating low string motif especially, I hear the lower fundamental frequencies played with more pronunciation thru the 30w than the GB. The gank in the mids are more forward with the GBs are like you said more pronounced and pushed so great for leads. I think personally if I had to only pick one, it would be the 30. Great video, as always.

Yeah I heard. I don’t know; to me Pantera is / was Dime, Vinnie, Rex & Phil. This will most likely be a great cover band, featuring two guys from Pantera, plus Zakk & Charlie. Which is great but I’m not that excited ’cos it’s missing THE two people. And don’t get me wrong; I’ve been an Anthrax fan since the 80s and I love Zakk too, especially the earlier Ozzy stuff and Pride & Glory so I’m pretty sure they’ll all deliver a great & entertaining live show. My first and only cab is marshall 1936. I chose g12t75 speakers. I always felt like something was off, I never vibed with it. I bought g12h30 and swapped them out and immediately was like "yeah man this is it." I've yet to try v30 but the g12h 30 (greenback anniversary) are killer imo for metal.
@EugeValovirta230V
Жыл бұрын
Yeah the T75 are probably my least favourite Celestions. The mids are kinda strange and off and it sounds like there’d be a blanket in front of the speakers or something.
Dropping the tuning will introduce a lot more bottom end, first off that’s an enormous difference. When the bottom end is much louder, that keeps the mids and highs quieter. Because they’re quieter, they sound weak. So when doing drop tunings the first priority is to tame the bottom end, so that the mids and highs don’t die off. Often I’ll watch the EQ and remove bass on the amp, so you get more full frequencies, a more level result without the massive thump transient. Unavoidable, but at least of you try to tame the bottom you will improve the volume of the mids and highs. Moving the mic around in usually the best first step. I’m sure you already know this, but I don’t see a comment here about the difference recording drop tuned guitars. It’s not at all the same as a standard tuning. In many ways it ruins your recording, and it has to do with increased transient volume in the lower range, which forces the mids and highs to be quieter. As for the speakers, they’re both good. I like Greenbacks and have pairs of all of them. Those 20w sound amazing, especially on Marshall amps. Meant to be. I’ve gone a bit outside with the mic position and get more cab resonance that way, which works great for me. Too close to the dust cap is too much top end. And the same for the Vintage 30. That’s a nasty speaker with a carved out midrange. But for Metal it gives a unique scooped sound and is appropriate many times with 6L6 amps. Matter of fact I don’t use it on any of my Marshall amps, the Greenback just dominates that sound. Creamback and Redback does great with 6L6 amps too, perhaps better than the Vintage 30. The Vintage 30 also has large transient bottom end so it has the same difficulties recording, the mids and highs are weaker than the bottom, thus quieter and weaker sounding. But all of them add up very well. Once your phase is aligned, and you add speakers together, you get the mids from the Greenbacks that the Vintage 30 lacks. The only EQ is some low pass filtering, no compression or dynamics reduction. Sometimes a limiter is used to cap those enormous bottom end transients that can be problematic. I have noticed certain notes like C are just explosive loud, and a limiter can be useful for the few loud notes. Love the collection of Marshalls. 👍😊

Did Jesper / Fred use the Greenbacks at all during the 90's/00's? Some of the freq I hear here remind me a bit of some of the tone from then. Of course IF did blending for a variety of things but it would be killer to know as I think it's probably an underrated speaker for metal.

Can’t remember but could be. I’ve used those quite a bit too along with V30s 👌.
Hey Euge... I keep reading on forums that 4x12 greenbacks = 100 watts can't handle a 100 watt head at loud volumes and flub out and can potentially blow a speaker. Is this true??? It doesn't make sense since EVH cabs if I remember correct are 80 watts and paired with 100 watt EVH heads. Any thoughts??? Appreciate any opinion, thanks man 🤟
@EugeValovirta230V
Жыл бұрын
It’s possible but pretty much only if you have the master fully open. On most 100 watt amps when the master is half way (which is insanely loud and you get plenty of power tube mojo) the output is probably like 30 watts or so. The power output ”grows” the more you turn it up. I bet those forum people haven’t most likely played with a tube amp & cab 😁.
