I am an Iraqi Arab. My great-grandfather, whom my father named me after (Abdullah), served in the Ottoman army. He first served in the Balkans, and after the Second Balkan War he received an injury in his right leg. He was a truly committed, patriotic, religious, and cultured man, even though he did not receive adequate education. He returned and participated in World War I when he heard that the British had landed their forces on the beaches of Basra. He volunteered again in the Ottoman army, but they rejected him because of his injury, as he was limping severely. Then he joined the irregular Arab tribal forces. He was martyred in the Battle of the Siege of Kut. At that time, he had two sons and two daughters. One of them was my grandfather, who was only one year old when the Ottoman Empire entered the war. This is what my great-grandmother told my father when he was young, and she was in her eighties. Edit comment: Thank you all, guys, for your kind words. Although I did not publish this comment for the sake of likes or interaction, I published it to highlight the hundreds of thousands of Arabs like my grandfather who loyally served the Ottoman Caliphate. It is true that Sharif Hussein and his followers are Arabs and that he will remain a disgrace to us until On the Day of Resurrection, but generalizing what he did to all of us is not correct either

Actually this one was written during the 20th century. It says things like "Turkish nation" Nationalism is a new term in world history Ottomans consisted of different ethnicities. In those times the only thing that mattered was religion, not nation thus they didn't havewords related to nationality. Mahmud II removed jannisaries in 1826 and they also removed mehteran (the military band) and burned the compositions. I wonder what would the real mehteran sound like. These mehterans we hear now mostly composed during the last years of he empire. But what would they be like during the golden ages of the empire? The purpose of the mehteran was to give morale and motivation to our soldiers and to frighten and demotivate the enemies. Imagine as the enemy you first hear the band, they are approaching, their sound comes closer and stronger. Then you see the jannisaries in red, the cannons the most powerful country and military at that time is coming closer to you. I can't help but wonder their original songs. Man, I would give so much to hear them.

@@josephleebob3828 there were thousands of people in the mehteran and they had huge drums. There are 2 big drums in a museum in Istanbul which was used in Mohac Battle under the rule of Suleiman the Magnificent they were so big and heavy that they used elephants to carry them. Now imagine the sound of mehteran with thousands of people and instruments. I wish I had a time machine :)

Whenever I hear people here in germany rant about turks I just think of how germans and turkish fought side by side in these lands and the turkish fight for independence after losing ww1.... I know it all happened a long time ago but this should be remembered in germany also since so many turks live in germany we should all have learned from this .... I know enough turkish people and I am ashamed about the prejudices, lack of acceptance and more which are separating us all. Greetings from Germany!

@Alper I am partly Tatar, but there is no tatarophobia in Russia. Some of the Russian nationalists hate Turkey because of the past of our countries. Also there are many nationalists videos on tik tok, KZread and other social networks, in which is the main theme is that Russians are won most of the wars with Turks. @serkan zurnacı That is a fair point. I was mostly joking about supposedly having patriotism for a country I certainly don't actually have any ancestors from. If you go far enough back though there could certainly be common ancestors in distant ancient times, but I do find that quite a stretch that Turkey and Finland alike lol. We both have historically had our fair share of problems with the Russians though!

bf1 is an amazing game with fantastic visuals and the ottomans are an amazing nation, the campaigns from gelibolu all the way to suveys is simply phenomenal. this edit was also really really good and captured the ww1-esque chaos bf1 has in many ways, overall great video!

@@bruv2249 Every Battlefield series has their own unique, the one that make difference is BF1 is WW1, BF5 is WW2, and the rest is modern war

My great grandfather Parti Pehlivan was an Ottoman officer. He took part in supressing 31st March Revolts, fought WW1 in Iraq against British and finally he led a Kuvay-ı Milliye band(essentially a partisan group) against Greeks in Western Anatolia. He even met Atatürk personally. I'm so proud of him, may he rest in peace.

All this stories that Turkish people come from Central Asia is basically idiot talk. Yes some people in Turkey will have a central asian background but it’s usually less than 20%. Turkish people are much more related to Greek people and Kurdish people are a mixture between Greeks and Iranians usually
