Cecotto vs Schumacher, a DTM Tale

Спорт

DTM 1990 Final Race in Hockenheim
Hans Stuck (Audi), Johnny Cecotto (BMW) and Kurt Thiim (Mercedes AMG) have the chance to become champion.
Schumacher starting P15 cut crossed the track to hit Cecotto.
The race was red flagged and Cecotto had to restart at the back of
the grid with the reserve car.
Stuck won both headers and became Champion.

Cecotto allways competed cleanly, was a gentelmen of the track. Great auto and moto racer and great human been. Shumi and others were capable to kill for a winning. Un justifiable.

Michael already competed in the Sports Car World Championship in 1990 and 91. Even at Le Mans in 1991. So he was already very well known in Germany. From the beginning of 1992 at the latest, he was known to all sports fans in Germany.

And this looks like you don't have much experience in racing. He blocks tire. He knows he is going to crash into someone in front so what he does is pretty normal and what would any great driver and thinking mind would do. Which is, turn aside and try to postpone the crash as much as you can by increasing the trajectory during which time you try to slow down the car. It is not intentional, it's unfortunate.

Interesting that Schumacher was involved in so many incidents like this, DTM and Formula One. When he was rising through the ranks of Formula One, I was a big fan, however every time he was involved in situations like this, he turned me away. When others crashed into him he wanted to punch them. Yet, his own actions were much worse - Cecotto DTM and Damon Hill, both lost championships because of his arrogance and determination to win at all costs - That is not Sportsmanship. It's a shame, as he was a very talented driver.

Every person who know something about racing realise that this is bullshit. No serious racing driver would take the risk from such an impact at this speed especially with the cars and safety in the past. If he hit the wrong point at the car, this can be fatal, the g force, no neck protection etc. Never never was this calculated, serious injury could be possible. It was the '80s, teams sabotaged each other on a regular basis in rallycross, rally and even formula races. Tampering with cars, bribing mechanics, inciting the fans - all part of daily routine. Touring car racing was (and is still) especially dirty - so while noone thinks that corner cutting was preplanned - Michael just saw a good opportunity and he took the chance. If it wasn't him maybe another loyal Mercedes works driver would try to knock Cecotto out a few corners or laps later, it's normal that the troublemakers "hunt" for the championship contenders. Safety? Hah, these guys were sitting in 4 wheeled corpses anyways, why would they care about safety? Piquet & Briatore did it at the topmost level in 2008 in a lot more progessive era under heavy scrutiny at twice the speed.

Well, first of all, Adrenalin is a documentary from the eyes of BMW. Second of all, I am not sure if they were able to actually ask Schumacher as the documentary was made in 2014...

Sorry, but when this has happened multiple times to multiple different drivers it comes out of the realm of coincidence and in to the realm of intentional.

Cause he was a career cheat who deliberately hit people to try and stop them winning championships. This driver and BMW whom this is a documentary from the perspective of have the right to feel like he did it deliberately whether he did or not. There's no lack of smoke here to feel like there's some fire.

I agree. It's all dramatised bollocks. It's a coincidence that's all. Schumacher would've needed several attempts to get this right.

Actually Senna did this exact move, at Imola, into a wall. Yet people don't say HE did it on purpose. So many sofa racers out there...

I'd add Fangio, Ascari and Stewart to that list too. I'd say Clark was the greatest F1 driver followed by Senna, Fangio, Prost, Lauda, Stewart, Hamilton, Ascari and then Schumacher. It's all about personal perspectives though.
