I am actually not scared of his smile. You know what you guys are not seeing? The smile of a person who is happy to share his knowledge. He is skilled. His skills can kill. But the smile that Cecep Arif Rahman is the same smile a teacher gives to students who are learning diligently from him. I do wish that at some point in our lives, we have teachers this dedicated and passionate and we learn from them.

Agreed. While yes, it might be disconcerting to see that smile in a back alley brawl, in a training or performance environment, it absolutely reads as the smile of a person who is in love with what they're doing, who loves sharing what they do with others.

In the last years, I've developed a deep friendship with an 85 years old man in Bali, the grandfather of a dear friend native of the island. This old and skinny man is indeed a silat expert, and sometimes, when I ask, he honours me showing some movements. Those two guys have something in common in the way they both smile and in the way they move. I wrote an article on Kaki, as I call my friend's grandfather, and shot him some pictures, but national geographic - the Italian one - wasn't interested. Those people have something more than normal people, and they should be respected like living monuments since they represent the highest points humanity can achieve in some of its cultural and athletic expressions. I wish good luck to all of them and I say thanks for sharing their art.

Do you remember his smile and facial expression? There is a common thread, these folks are expressing something that is instantly recognizable yet mysterious, right?

Alhamdulillah that am one of the silat practicioner, if u master the silat move its so beautiful yet very effective its like dancing but beating the opponent easily without effort..n so many movement also attacking the psychology of the opponent because after that move the opponent will feel embarassed n increasing their temper..n remember in a fight when u lose your temper thats it u no longer think its simply a blind attack which can be easily finished by the enemy..keep practicing the dance n once its becoming a muscle memory by then u dont think anymore on what should u do when the fight happend its simply flow like a water in the river..one of the most beautiful martial arts.. Luckily they only teach the basic which is enough to protect your self if they teach u the killer art..then trust me u will becoming one of the best assassin on any agency all over the world..salam from sumatra indonesia..

Despite the traditional roots of Silat, I love how it seems to value practicality also. Most of this would be 100% viable in a streetfight, it shows aggression, manipulation of your opponent and their aggression, situational awareness and pragmatism in some aspects. Those are all traits of the most effective martial arts for practical self-defence. The only draw back is that this looks hard to learn, a challenge for certain, but a worthwhile one for any willing to learn.

Silat is very beautiful and deadly style in the world, I think. The style is unpredictable, fast, and elastic. I am proud silat is our National Martial art in Indonesia and now even more known globally. Saya kagum oey ama kang Cecep. Saya berharap pemerintah jua bisa menasionalisasi kan olahraga silat di tingkat sekolah-sekolah di Indonesia.

Cecep is an Indonesian artist who is a true teacher of pencak silat 🇲🇨 silat is one of the most anticipated martial arts that usually performs locks from hitting or leg and one thing about silat.Silat can have small weapons that you cannot see, namely kerambit. Karambit is one of the weapons that can injure the person it faces unless it is rubbed in the hand or around the neck. Now that's why people like silat in my country Don't underestimate silat or you can deal with it

Most silat training is live action role playing against compliant opponents. I trained extensively all throughout Indonesia between 1974 and 1982 - culminating in taking Gold at the inaugural World Silat Championships in Jakarta. The only athletes that made it past the first round, were one that did bagwork, roadwork and daily sparring - the rest were wiped out with little to no ceremony.
