I don't understand the language but this instructor is unbelievable. Very fast, very smooth. His techniques are almost effortless. His timing is crazy good. Thanks for the video. It was a pleasure to watch him demonstrate his martial art.

This guy learned alot when he was blessed by the filipino masters. My teacher would never teach at this speeds. Slow.. Great skill remember our technique don't always mix well with other seasoned artist, but on the street fighting a non-practitioner the Arnis seem very effective. Brazil is the deadliest country for.knife assault in the WORLD!..

Okayyy. So good demo, as a silat/kali/Muy Thai student of Guro Dan Inosanto I'd like to offer to the detractors here in the comments. That this is demo, demo shows possibilities of application. When we spar, its a different view entirely, weapons application/foot work/ hand eye cooordination is fun to see and do. It's no different than randori in JJ/Judo/or Muy Thai..... Sparring is different if only because the gross motor skills are reverted to the more you tire. Plus if you've got good sparring partners they can hurt you as much as you do them. This keeps you honest about your abilities. Lastly, I have used my silat/kali many times over the years while doing EP/Security and Law Enforcement. I've never had an excessive force complaint or law suit because I continually train CQC/Hand to Hand and martial arts in general so I can view my sidearm as a tool in the box not the 'only' tool available.

Espectacular.

I've seen a number of otherwise very appreciative comments wishing they could *understand* what is being said. Now given that it's 6 years after this posting, it's probably too late to even think of adding closed captions, but perhaps someone who knows & understands the demonstrators language could transcribe what he's saying into a comment here, which could then be pinned to the top? Most all of the comments here are in English.

@Aidan Fisher after the proclamation in 1945 by soekarno, indonesia fight an independence war againts british and dutch so no treaties until 1949, so Indonesia's independence is in 1945 only some countries recognized it. so its a war for 4 years until it is recognize by dutch. and Pencak Silat was used during colonialism even before 20th century. usually used by warriors from SEA nation like modern day malaysia, brunei, and so on. also some soldier that fight japanese do fight with bamboo spear. and they are not stupid but desperate, they would use anything they had in their arsenal be it stones or a bamboo they would use it. so idk about your source but ok...lol

  • @TalLeyKAL

@Aidan Fisher lmao you just said what i said, treaties until 1949, before that indonesia fight using whatever they had be it japanese weapon that they took or just some rocks and bamboo, and of course we independent through treaties and diplomacy, but if our fight was failed when dutch and british invade indonesia after ww2 it would be another 10 or 20 years before independence... your argument does not have any rationality tbh. And what's wrong with proud with your country? Nothing wrong with it. Lol

I have Malaysian friends and all they ever sad was that Silat was flowery and not effective (they both ended up high grades in Wing Chun and Hapkido training in KL) but the more I see of this family of martial arts, the more impressed I become. I was introduced to Kali back in the late 80's whilst training Japanese Ju-Jitsu and the hand work was far superior to anything I was getting from the Ju-Jitsu. I now know of course that this too is from the Silat family. Sadly, my only access to Kali was through a cross training partner so I didn't train formally - I wish I had.

silat of indonesia and malaysia are flowery.... the filipinos removed the flowery part and made it combat effective and applied it in kali eskrima or arnis.... the same with judo, aikido etc... filipinos get the effective and take away the ineffective....

Kali is proven and effective. It was wildly used by pre-spanish filipinos against invaders and also used it primarily as defense. During the spanish occupation, Kali was used against the muslim insurgency. Was also used in the filipino-american war and used again in guerilla battles in ww2. So, it's ancient and also deadly.

Please, then, I hope to find someone to help me. I joined this martial arts school and I will be indebted to him for the rest of my life. Can I find someone who can help me learn these arts?
