Cebu, Philippines - Cost of Living

#Cebu #Philippines #CostofLiving
Cebu is one of the most developed provinces in the Philippines with Metro Cebu being the second-largest metropolitan area in the Philippines.
It really is possible to live in Cebu for $1,000 a month.
So how much does it cost to live in Cebu?
Coming up I’ll show you what these budgets look like in IT Park and Cebu Business Park, two of Cebu’s most popular destinations for expats, retirees, and location-independent entrepreneurs.
Best Neighborhoods
There are several developments in Cebu that are considered “trendy” or “cool” and these are usually located near commercial centers and have easy access to everything.
Cebu IT Park - has first-world standards like sidewalks, proper-sized roads, coffee shops, restaurants, condos, and a new mall.
Many employees in the IT Park area work at business processing companies and call centers servicing the United States and Europe. Workers are coming on and off of shifts around the clock so many restaurants are open 24hours a day. With this, there is a well-educated, group of English-speaking professionals in the area making it an easy place to make Filipino friends.
Cebu Business Park (CBP) is home to several multinational businesses, residential condos, hotels, and the Ayala Center shopping mall, which draws 85,000 visitors on an average day.
CBP is the single largest urban development project in the Philippines outside of Manila.
Calyx Residences are located in the residential enclave of the Cebu Business Park, two blocks away from Ayala Center Mall it is home of Cebu’s first high-rise rooftop infinity swimming pool on the 28th floor offering a panoramic view of the channel, the city harbor and the mountains surrounding Cebu.
Here’s a breakdown of what you might find in Cebu:
Simple Apartment: $300 - $500. USD
Starting around $300 USD you can find a good quality studio apartment in a good location. At this price, you can often find air conditioning, decent furniture, 24/7 security and maybe even some other amenities like cable, wifi, and a swimming pool.
Nice Apartment: $600 - $1,000 USD
Between $600 and $1,000 you can find quality one- and two-bedroom apartments that may have a gym, swimming pool, 24/7 security, included cable and wifi and other amenities.
And for about $6 a day you can hire a cleaner to clean your place.
Monthly Overheads
When it comes to utilities, electricity can be expensive if you run your AC a lot.
Basic Utilities (Electricity, Heating, Cooling, Water, Garbage) $120.
Internet $30 - $50.
Smartphone service will be another $15.
Fitness Club, Monthly Fee for 1 Adult $40. - $50.
However, a personal trainer may be as little as $3 per hour.
Food Costs in Cebu
Local food can be tasty and very affordable and a meal at a local restaurant will often cost less than $3. and a meal at a western-style restaurant will often cost between $5 and $10.
Western-style supermarkets with imported goods from around the world are available although prices can be high. If you shop at the local markets and stick to Filipino food brands and local fruits and vegetables you can spend less than $200 per month for all your meals. Buying at the open-air markets is the most economical way to shop.
Getting Around Cebu
Jeepneys are the cheapest mode of transportation and most major roads and destinations are covered Buses are also available on main routes. These rides may cost you as little as twenty cents. Metered taxis and Grab are the most comfortable options while motorbike taxis are a cheap, fast option during heavy traffic.
A taxi ride from Cebu IT Park to Cebu Airport (CEB) will cost about ₱210 - ₱260 or about $5 USD. A taxi between Cebu Business Park and IT Park cost about ₱90 or $2USD.
Travel from Cebu
Cebu is a great place to base out of for traveling around and exploring the Philippines. Ferry transportation is convenient and the airport is easy to get in and out of, and has flights to many locations.
Healthcare costs in Cebu
Healthcare in Cebu is so affordable that many expats don’t take out health insurance, and instead pay for treatment on a case by case basis. The cost of a visit to the doctor is about $12 USD. If you prefer health insurance, PhilHealth is a government-subsidized option that is available for foreign immigrants and citizens. It will cost about 17,000.00₱, less than $350 USD per year. There are also private options from companies like Bupa and Blue Cross Blue Shield.

i agree there is a lot of videos and reviews that tend to lack real and important info and tend to be more about getting laid in the Philippines my guess those who make that kind of video are gearing it for those types who just come for the holiday romp with as many as they can get but its nice to see videos like this one i been living in Cebu for 12yrs now and and have done a lot of touring on motorbike around the south and north of Cebu its something i recommend to anyone who wants to get out and explore if you can ride a motorbike that is by far the best way to explore and really nice to stop in random places for a relax and get to know people it really is a nice place to live and you dont really need a lot of money to live decently but thanks for the video i hope you could do more on the touring around the island and show off some of the beauty of Cebu

Very good information. We live about 15 km out side Cebu City. The worst things about living that far out is the traffic at certain times and the air pollution as you get deeper into the city. We have a great airport, good transportation system and many great hospitals. Many many options for renting and plenty of night life. We have the mountains above Cebu City and many nice beaches. Also, Cebu doesn't get the major typhoons that plague Samar, leyte and Luzon provinces. We love it here on Cebu Island. Again, nice video

GREAT video! With all of the turbulence here in the states, my family is considering relocating back to the Philippines. Primarily Cebu. I discourage you to bring your American husband and children to relocate to the Philippines. Japan, Korea, Taiwan or Singapore will suit them well because those countries meet or even exceed the US standards of living. Philippines is not the place for your American family. Most American expats, who live on meager pension, always whine about everything here.

I’ve heard that Cebu would make a great base camp due to the airport and also many boats that can take you to all the different islands cheap. Plus the rent there is very reasonable over near the IT park plenty of condos to rent with a pool and also a gym inside the building plus they are safe and secure so when you leave for a week or more you come back home and all your stuff is still we’re you left it at. Dumagetti is also nice for xpats with plenty to do but you will need a scooter when you live there due to everything is distanced. Where as Cebu is a big city with plenty of public transportation it all depends on your lifestyle and if you plan on retiring in the Philippines

Yu Kay those statements are overreach dear. Are you from the Philippines? Coz clearly, you have no idea about what you're saying. -"kids are begging" That's pretty normal in more than 200 countries and territories. No country is an exception to poverty. Every country has underprivileged people. -"women are selling themselves to white old men" Well I agree that there might be isolated cases about that but that will never reflect the entirety of the population. Again, prostitution is common across 200 countries and territories. -"there is a guard with a shot gun at a store" Well, were you educated about the concept of security/ security guards? -"with one of the highest crime rates in the world" I beg your pardon? But maybe you are referring to some latin countries. Philippines' 2020 crime rate rank is 71st in the world. Far lower and more peaceful than Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam. Read your facts boo before you read somebody or anything.

And now transferring to south part of cebu and be able to buy own house which cost us more less than what we've spend while living in City. What misses me in the city is a nice restaurant with nice foods like denny's. But i really much prefer living in province, it's really quiet in here and relaxing, away from crowded places.

Hmmmmm. Beaches in Cebu. Let's see: On Mactan the best are at the resorts. Plantation Bay. Shangri La. Move pick and Crimson. Plan on $200/night and learn Korean. There are at least 30 more places. If you want really nice beaches then you'll need to head Southeast. Moal Boal (Moe ahl bow ahl) or Badian. Don't go to Bantayan Island! I'm saving that for myself. 😜 Camotes Island is another place.

Very well-done, thank you for creating this. I very much enjoyed my visit to Cebu, but am quick to recall that the heat and humidity I experienced - even while it rained pretty hard - was absolutely stifling. Stepping into it felt like walking into an angry wall of aggressive turkey-roasting-oven air.. APART FROM THAT CEBU was wonderful. I followed Anthony Bourdain's advice and visited his suggested spot for lichen (it was amazing!), and met some really nice locals.

    - 90 pesos from Cebu Business Park to IT Park is something i'd be paying if i hail a cab on non-peak hours. It would also help to know all the shortcuts out of IT Park to save money and have better access to shorter/cheaper trips to Cebu Business Park because there are jeepneys (with codes 04L, 13C, 13B, 62B, 62C) that ply that route although they do not directly enter IT Park themselves. There are jeepneys that do enter IT Park (often coded with 17B or 17C or 17D) but do not go to Cebu Business Park but they can serve as layover trips. - Best advice i can give for folks who wish to live in Cebu (as someone who has lived in Cebu myself) is to be prepared for flooding in the rainy season and water shortages during the dry season. Traffic is also bad but not as bad as Manila's and things often stabilize after 8:30 pm. - Know the shortcuts. Not just around IT Park and CBP but all across the city. Know which parts to avoid for safety or hygienic reasons or both. If you're going to the public market in Carbon or in the fish markets in Tabo-an, be extra vigilant. Know every alternative route you need to take in the event flooding renders you stuck. - Living in Cebu is cheaper than Manila but still relatively expensive compared to other cities in the Philippines i have lived in or went to, and with a lot of trade-offs. - Whenever i travel to Cebu for leisure, i don't take the cab all the way to IT Park from the airport. I take the MyBus to SM City from the airport and go straight to IT Park from SM City via cab. It saves me at least PhP 80 that way, depending on the time of the day.
