Guys: a million+ families in the PI live quite well on around $400/$500 a month. If a sole foreigner can't manage that on $700/$1000 a month, I have no sympathy. Just remember you live there and you're not on holiday. Do that and you'll be fine.

If you avoid women and bars it’s doable. but that’s the allure that drives foreigners from going there in the first place 🤣🤣 but with no pinay to shop, cook, wash your clothes, and show you the ropes, take you to immigration, fill out paperwork, go to mall to pay your bills,etc ,etc, you can get lost in the shuffle pretty easily.. if you plan on finding that young hottie expect your monthly expenses to shoot up a minimum of 1,000 dollars a month, maybe much more as you will be financially taking on her whole family 😊and stragglers

It depends on your lifestyle. I have known foreigner-couples living in Manila quite comfortably on 1000 a month. If you want high class living, your condo alone may cost more than $3000 per month. 8-10 hour daily air-conditioning with fully automatic washing machine, electric stove. microwave may add $200 to the bill but some people (foreigner or local) have electric bills that ccsts aropund #2000 0per month. A couple could live comfortably in major cities (Philippine standard) with $2,000 a month. But if you chose Bonifacio Global City for example, $2.000 "may" not be enough

Been living here in PH for 12 years now with my wife and 2 kids. Kids go to a private school and our monthly expenses barely go over $1000. Half the time it's under $1000. It's about the lifestyle you choose. And no we don't live in some remote province or island. We live 40 mins away from Metro Manila. We go out to nice restos or parks 2 or 3 times a month. Being frugal in some areas is a must. I love cooking and so does my wife so we save a bunch on food costs.

1:25 Foodnet is a cafeteria, called turo-turo (literally point-point) by the locals.
My take on budgeting in the Phil circa 2023 based on my experience: - Renting decent apartment/condo: 10k - 15K ($200-$300 USD) - Electric: 4k - 8k or around $100 USD (depending on how much you run the AC units you have--get an inverted type if you can) - Water: around 600 PHP or $12 USD - Food: 15K or $300 - $1000 USD (depends on how "well" you want to eat, and if you are feeding other people, dogs, etc..) - Renewing tourist visa: about 2000 PHP ($40 USD month) or 3500 every two months, plus you need to buy an Alien Registration Card once a year (around $75 USD or 3000 PHP) - Health saving: 5000 or $100 USD - try and put some money in savings every month for emergencies or health care needs, dentist, etc.. - Transportation: 500 - 10K PHP or $10 - $200 USD - depends on how much you want to travel, and if you want to own a bike/car I'm probably missing a few things, but I'd say $1000 USD is the BEAR minimum. It all depends on how much you want to live like a Westerner or a local. I'd say you need at least $2000 USD in passive income (or from working remotely) a month (after taxes) in order to live comfortably (i.e. like a Westerner) here. Also add another $1000/mo if you plan on helping/supporting a Pinay and her family.

If one can cover these major source of expenses like rent + utilities, food, medical insurance and transpo then you are on top of everything. Everything else will be optional. Now if you like having a fun lifestyle like if you enjoy nightlife, malling and other recreation, you will need to be careful as these can be the main reason why you could spend more than your budget. $700 is a realistic budget but won't be advisable for the first few months living here and if you want luxurious way of living. Little? Pretty sure he means dollars, not pesos!
I'll live in Tijuana instead, because I can park my car on the other side and walk over there. I believe the cost of living is a little more but much closer to the US.

Exactly living on the border is much better. I live in Tecate, and I can be in San Diego in an hour, instead of a 16 hour flight, costing up to a thousand or more usd
Hello,. Was there a FOREIGNER FEE added to your HOSPITAL costs each time? If so how much was it? Thank you!
@Alex_Kosh

There's no official foreigner's fee. But some doctors can try to scam you asking $10000 for dislocated bone in shoulder. Because some of them are renting rooms in clinics and work like a small business inside.

If you had a dislocates shoulder you dont go to doctor but instead find a Hilot which can do a massage and bobe realignment. They can also tell if you really need a doctor.Hilots are really good they are like a chiropractor but with traditional medicine practice.

The video was shot in Dumaguete, Philippines.
I got food poisoning once in Doumagete, eating the same squid casserole the second day as well was a big mistake, had total immunity collapse I had red itchy dots scratched turned into open wounds, then realised it was because of food guess its simmering to keep it warm, and that was the only mishap as yet as to food in my whole life..

"But the food is cheap" say most PI vloggers. That is too often the focus on these vids and can have devastating consequences as you mention here.
I've visited there there's no way I could live on that amount of money. Glad some people can. I suggest at least $2000 a month.

Man If you can't live like the guys on this video and you want to spend more money because you have more than they have, I think that is your choice don't try to impose your lifestyle on another fella. You wouldn't try that shit here in the states. I guarantee you.
No shots in U.S.A. for that at a tavern, but you can always buy your own bottle! But, you can get great shots and margaritas right over the border in Mexico, and it’s much nicer and better than the Philippines!
A scammer girl lured me to baybay in jan 2024, got me to pay a meal feast attended by about 20 of her relatives which cost me about 8000 peso for the meal. She didn't even spent a minute with me in private. Disgusting memory.
I was a single female doctor ..... My expenses ran to $3500 a month. I obviously wasn't hanging around at the bars but when we went out for dinner it was high end. I lived in a private suite at a hotel where my cleaning and laundry was done, they also ensured that a member of private security escorted me from the hospital to my apartment at night. As far as medical treatment, the costs add up quick if something serious happens like heart attacks, strokes, cancer - get a decent health insurance if you are older.

how is crime and safety?
@Alex_Kosh
7 ай бұрын
I don't have official crime statistics. I feel safe. Sometimes something happens, like everywhere else in the world. For example, the murder of the governor or there was a case of a crazy tramp attacking a local woman with a knife. I think stealing is the most common crime, and yet not as common as in big cities like Manila

Go to one of the many Bureau of Immigration offices spread around the country, fill out a 1-page extension application, and pay an extension fee. It can also be done online at the Bureau of Immigration e-services website now without ever visiting an office.
