Couldn't agree more. It's not just "good looking production" - but amazingly tight in the content. Feels like there's a half-hour cut, that was iterated, compressed and polished to perfection - I learnt something in less time that it normally takes, to tell me to play Shadow Legends.

Holy crap. This is a perfect primer on color theory. Really. Concepts that took me a long time to get, explained more intuitively than any textbook. Usually a video this short has to have some seriously stretched analogies, but I didn't spot any. Cheers.

I don't know much about anything but I do know that the effort put into this video would make Newton blush.

All metrics combined, this is quite possibly the best educational video on the topic of color ever created. The quality of those visualizations is stunning, the script is meticulously crafted to fit an enormous amount of important and complicated info in less than 7 minutes. This is a freaking golden standard of educational videos. Bravo! P.S. You could've also mentioned the gamma correction though. People should know about the gamma curve, it's like a red pill for everyone who works with imaging.

How is it that every medium-big youtuber and their mother watches the master Captain D, and he still doesn't get the following he deserve?

As a long time video engineer, that was exactly how I teach the waveform and vector scopes. It was awesome to see it visualized like that. I'm going to use this video from now on any time I get newbs asking questions.

Production value is absolutely mind-blowing...your effort does NOT go unnoticed!

I don't know why, but my favorite part of this video is the entire silver portion of your face getting censored every time you curse.

I watch CD's videos when they come out and I am always mindblown on the editing, content, script and work done with such care and attention to detail. Then after a while, I watch them again when I can't recall what the content was, and it has the same effect when I watch it for the first time. It's one of the best feelings to have when watching KZread. Thank you CD for putting such effort and dedication, I bet your audience is always astonished and amazed on your talent and indisputably hard work.

Luke Costello: at 1:19 in the video, see how the blue sensitive cones are activated by light that is far to the left of chart, and the green and red are close together on the right? Cyan is an activation of the green and blue cones, and sits in between those crests. blue is just a little bit over to the left, but red is waaaay over on the right. It’s the difference in wavelength.

Luke Costello Check out a color wavelength/frequency chart. Blue is ~450nm, red is ~650nm. The midpoint is ~550nm, which is green, not cyan (cyan is ~500nm). So there’s more colors on one side because the color you choose for the “middle” isn’t really the middle.

I keep coming back to this video. The sheer amount of information delivered in 7 minutes is amazing. I recommend it to people to learn about color quickly.

Ok, so I just landed here after watching you on the Corridor Crew video, this is the first video I'm watching from you. Ever. I came for the VFX, I stayed for the captivating storytelling and I subscribed because of the raw awe I felt, as I progressed through the content. Man, you are seriously gifted and I look forward to seeing more. *grabs popcorn* - literally.

Honestly the reason I click CD's vids is just to marvel at the amount of work he puts into motion graphics.

The visuals of this episode were amazing. That way you showed the waveform diagram was brillant!

Genuinely one of my favorite series of his just due to how informative it is from start to finish. Its super interesting to be able to easily learn about these topics in such depth while keeping it fun and engaging. I really hope he makes more

Just incase your wondering. That dual head spot light is called The Intimidator Spot Duo made by CHAUVET. I have 2 of these light fixtures, very beautiful and easy to DMX. Too bad they got DISCONTINUED back in 2016.

The Newton rant is amazing, I keep rewatching. Not only because it's F*c#!nG hilarious but also because I've done that same-ish rant a few times, as I'm sure most people do.

There is more information hydraulically pressed into the under 7 minutes of this video than the previous 30 years of excruciating inadequacy that I call my life. I don't think a single word was wasted on not conveying an idea. Or a single second wasted not beautifully illustrating that idea. Captain D, I love you.

This is a free video! There are tons of filmmaking courses that don't do as good as yours and which you pay for it! The explanations correlated to the animations is mindblowingly educative. I love it with my heart... and my brain

I was taught about the color wheel in primary school, and for a while since I've learned more about wavelengths and human perception I have not been able to integrate the color wheel into what else I knew about color. It seemed like it was pulled out of thin air, but this is the first explanation of it that actually clicked. Thanks!

The "how convenient" while elbowing a picture of Darwin really got me. Thanks Captain.

@@AcornGR the rub is that humans have selectively adapted to perceive wavelengths that are useful to their environment, namely for objects on earth. this idea of selective adaptation to an organism's environment, or basically, evolution, was pioneered and is generally associated with Charles Darwin, the man in the photo

@backtothefuture1066 Actually he is 100% correct. There is no real color in the outside world. There are only frequencies of electromagnetic radiation, just like frequencies of sound from low to high. The colors we see are our own brains "painting" visual labels onto our internal 3D model our brains build inside itself. It is much like a weather map where cold areas are falsely painted blue and warm areas are falsely painted red in order to give more visual meaning to raw data. in the case of our vision, the raw data is simply various frequencies of radiation. There is nothing intrinsically "yellow" with 570 nm wavelength of radiation other than that is what our own brain labels it in our own mind.

He didn't even mention that some of that work was done during 1665-1667 when he left the city because of the Great Plague. Newton got some peace of mind while he was essentially in lockdown, trying not to die from the black death.

Wow. Probably one of the most informative or important videos I've watched here on youtube. That was mindblowing for me.

4:50 I was gonna say "Hey, I remember SmarterEveryDay talking about this!" And then I remembered that that was just CaptainD pretending to be Destin. God damn it, I still can't get over how spot on all of those impressions were.
