Excellent demonstration. What I'd like to ask is did she then go and wash her hands? How would the therapist respond in vivo to the urge to wash having completed the exercise? Would this already have been discussed?

Yeah. I was trying to do this by myself but even if you don't respond right away you still want to and do it later. Like I was feeling disgusted when someone grabbed a baseball cap I just washed and I tried to avoid responding by washing it again and I put it on and went to the movies trying to not respond and I was kinda calm but hours later I washed the cap. Man I think the disgust feeling could have last for days or months if I didn't wash the cap

@@kidsundance9021 thats the ocd compulsion kicking in, you did a good exposure by trying not to wash it. but you need to keep it up and resist the urge to wash it

Words are powerful, are decrets, and as long you keep saying that to yourself it will be like that. There are ways to change that, but you have to be willing to change it, otherwise, a change will never occur.

idk if you still have this issue, but the answer is accepting that feeling. It may or may not go away. It sucks, this is stressful, but I'm gonna do it. Cause this is ERP and ERP is how I beat OCD. And ironically by accepting that the possibility that the anxiety may last forever, it'll probably not last forever. I know easier said then done, but this is what you gotta do. Alternative is far worse, think of how much of your life you've lost due to these rituals.
