CB1000R in the Eifel | En Route to the Ring

Ойын-сауық

The plan is to take the new Honda CB1000R Neo Sport Cafe around the Nürburgring. But 'sadly' there are several hundred kilometers of insanely twisty roads between my home in Hamburg, and the Nordschleife racetrack in the Eifel. Oh well, I guess I'm just going to have to ride them all then!

    I enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing. I'm an American and have lived most of my life now in Germany. In fact, the Eifel is about a 45 minute drive from where I live (southern RLP near France and Saarland). And, I'm also about to buy a used 2020 CB1000R. So, this video has been inspirational. I highly doubt I'll be driving that aggressively, as I'm just returning to riding after a long, long hiatus. But for sure, some Eifel touting will be one of my goals. Thanks again.

    I'm still also torn about getting this bike. My first thinking and good bit of shopping prior to finding it was for the CB650R. I was also interested in the Trident 660. But, this beautiful CB1000R was sitting among the used motorcycles of a Yamaha dealer and it was my wife that said, this is a really nice looking bike. How about it? I sat on it, and my wife said, you look much better on it than the 650. The dealer started the engine, and damn, I fell in love instantly. I'm still wary of getting it though, that it might be a bit above my abilities. My wife says, it's only as dangerous as you make it. But, I know things you didn't think might catch you out can and will and on a bike like the 1k, even more. But, the same things can catch you out on the smaller bikes too I guess. At any rate. I'm very excited to say the least and your insights with the bike are helping me a lot. Thanks once more. Oh btw, the prior owner got rid of the swingarm license plate holder and put it under the seat. Not sure why. But, maybe he also had to tighten the chain and said, this is bullocks. LOL!

    Andy, like I think I always say, "how closed is this road, really?" ;) :D - Glad you finally discovered the "Ask to recalculate" function, that is critical to the Garmin not screwing up your carefully crafted route! (works even better if you have a very prescriptive route with lots of shaping/way-points as a re-route will attempt to get you to the next one of those only (at least on the 660, the newer ones might still screw the route and route to the end instead of the next point. I usually don't re-calc at all and manually use the map to get back on route myself... :( )). Great vid, a lot to take in, required a re-watch :)

    Noticed you ditched the Sony cams and gone all GoPro. You’ve got to do a vlogging how to setup next. Also noticed you run ND filters for that slow shutter speed thingy... help us out with a how to on that as well if you can. Really loving how you’re jelling with the bike. It shows. My MT-09 SP came with Bridgestone S20es, lots of reviewers gave them shit as being not as good as off the shelf items, myself I’ve had no issues, loved them and in the mountains came quite near to the edge of the sides, something I’ve never done before on other bikes, which does say something on confidence inspiring tires. Will switch to Michelin Road 5’s next on your advice, but not because the B’s where lacking. Just to test something new and also because Michelin worked great on my little supermoto as well.

    Absolutely Stephen. I'm still perfecting the setup, but as soon as I do, there'll be little vid about it. Sounds like a winter project to me! The S21's on the CB were fabulous! I was right to the very edges after only 2000km! Never managed that with the R5's on the FZ1. I didn't go for them again purely because they only lasted 5000km (probably could have gone to 6000, but had a trip coming up!). I've got Avon Spirit ST's on now and so far (in awful weather) they've been impressive!

    My guess would be new chain stretch. Once you started to give it some wellie the chain loosened up as it settled in. The gearbox will take a few 1000ks to do the same, best to be gentle with it until second service. But yeah, quite a bang and proper scary. When you think about it not many bikes get to spend their second week hitting the Nordschleife. ;D

    Interesting to see your issue with the false neutral. I have a CBR650R with a quick shifter fitted and I've more or less stopped using it now. The false neutrals, meshing of gears, worrying clunks and bangs leave me thinking it will eventually destroy the grearbox. It's got worse over time, and I've had the bike 18 months now. I was out enjoying a ride today, gave the bike some beans, thought I'd use the quick shifter, and the engine screamed up to 12,000RPM, the horizontal bar was showing on the gear indicator, then heard the cogs banging and clanging for a couple of seconds while things calmed down. As I said, it's happening more and more, to the point I'm thinking of calling Honda. Anyway, other than that, an entertaining video as always.

  • @AndyManCam

    @AndyManCam

    3 жыл бұрын

    That's very annoying mate, sorry to hear it. TBH I heard of several cases of this kind of behaviour from people who apparently had a quickshifter that wasn't properly set up from the factory. It was enough to put me off getting the QS and I saved the 1000€ by just getting the standard bike! Now that I've replaced the standard footpegs, I'm having way less issues. Although it's possible that this scare has made me change gear a bit more forcefully now! Overall, I think that if you're worried that your bike isn't working as it should, definitely call Honda. You paid a lot of money for that bike, it really ought to work 100% all of the time! Plus if you leave it too long, the warranty will expire and then you'll have nothing!

    Yeah I should perfect my tool setup with an extension or two for next time. I do prefer the low level mudguard to a tail tidy.

    @@fredensminde I have a GSX-S1000 with a tail tidy. Wished there existed a mudguard for it : on rainy roads, with my "tail tidy", my jacket is far from "tidy" : one hell of a brown mud stripe on the back of my jacket. I promised myself to never ever install a tail tidy again...

    Very well! The chain is still well oiled and pretty clean looking after about 7000km.
