In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that you might not know.
A Quick Overview:
Group: Companion Dogs
Weight: 13 to 18 pounds
Height: 12 to 13 inches at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 9 to 15 years
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a small breed of spaniel classed in the toy group of The Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club, that originated in the United Kingdom. Since 2000, it has grown in popularity in the United States and ranks as the 19th most popular pure-breed in the United States. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a beautiful small dog that undoubtedly is a contender for the title of "top tail-wagger." In fact, among the characteristics that Cavalier breeders strive to attain is a tail in constant motion when this breed is moving.
If the characteristic wagging of the Cavalier's plumy tail doesn't melt your heart, surely his large, dark round eyes will. Warm and lustrous, with a sweet expression, they hold the power to extract constant petting and unlimited supplies of food from people under their spell. Not surprisingly, this breed can easily become fat, which spoils its lovely lines, so be strong and offer a walk or playtime instead of the potato chips and pizza your Cavalier is angling for.
Cavaliers pad through the house on slippered paws, always following in the footsteps of their people. With a Cavalier in residence, you'll never be alone - not even in the bathroom. Because they're so attached to their people, they do best when someone is at home during the day to keep them company. They are a housedog and will never thrive in an environment where they're relegated to the backyard or otherwise ignored.

My King Charles is very playful..he most loves chasing a laser toy. Loves fresh air, nature and being by the water..like car rides. He never barks at people or other dogs- just the doorbell or when feeling playful. He loves kisses under his neck- he’s been my greatest joy.

When I was a kid I didn't like dogs, I was scared of them. But I knew someone with a cav, and I adored that dog. So thanks to the Cavalier king Charles spaniel, I'm learning to get over my fear of dogs.

I had a dog like that once. She was my first dog, but she wasn't a cab. She was actually a miniature pincher cross some sort of terrier mutt. But I only just worked out… After over 20 years since her passing… That she was a Minpin Cross are looking at photos of her and looking at pictures of men pins. Anyway… She was what I call now I tongue Mauller. She would lick you to death and I saw her cure people of fears of dogs. I think she had a personality a lot more like a cabbie than a Minpin… Except for the escape artist Street. Anyway… Since she died… She only lived 2 1/2 years because of her escape artistry… I had a corgi fox terrier cross. And she was a very different dog altogether. Lots of more laid-back, not as friendly with strangers, a better watchdog, and more gentle… But without the outgoing friendliness. She passed away nine years ago. And then last week, I met an adult caveat in the next few months could be retired from breeding. Luckily she has been bred by a reputable breeder here in New Zealand who is a vet nurse who checks all her breeding dogs for genetic issues. I met her, and her personality was the mixture of my previous two dogs… The friendliness of the first one and the tendency of the first one to tongue tongue more… and the quiet laid-back gentleness of the second one. It was so weird! We both kind of chose each other, I'm still deciding whether to get her or a cavity or not. Our lifestyle would be perfectly suited to a cafe, and we have four cats and I have since research and found that they are a breed that are often recommended for people with cats. Anyway… That was the novel way of saying that I hear you about being cured of having a fear of dogs. When you get a dog that is like that… They really can show you a different side to dogs. I often think that if I did get a cavity, I'd look into any sort of voluntary work I could do perhaps in a rest home or something like that where I could include taking my dog. That would be awesome!

@Amrita Chakraborty I’m not quite sure. I live in Finland and here the seasons change a lot. What comes to feeding your pomeranian, I don’t think it is that expensive. My family used to have a Finnish laphund and his food was more expensive because of his size. My pom eats dry food in little doses three times a day. He eats less than 90g a day which is a very little amound. His dry food costs here in Finland about 40 euros with that I get 6kg of dry food and that amount is good for several months ! So I would say that poms food is not very expensive taking his/her little feeding doses in to consideration. However, you have to keep in mind that poms are super tiny dogs and can injure them quite easily. So you have to take possible vet bills into concideration. Hope this helps you and good luck finding your furry friend!🐾🙏🏻🐶 greetings from Finland🇫🇮

I LOVE my CKCS! This is a good video but they forget to mention a few things! its extremely important to get one from a reputable breeder, I can't say that enough! They have serous health issues from over breeding and theyre such a sweet breed who would want to cause one suffering by supporting a puppy mill or someone who's breeding for money vs the health of breed. It will also save you money in the long run. We got ours from a couple who is very respected and part of a club that is helping make the breed healthier. We have all his parents health paperwork as well as met his parents and some grandparents ( his grandma is 16 years old with only a level 2 heart murmur- thats really good!). Females and males are only breed if they pass a full health exam and the females are only breed a max of three times and don't have their first litter till they over the age of 3. He was not cheap and we had to interview and meet them in-person just to be considered. if you can't afford the high price for responsible breeder there are rescue groups for cavilers from usually puppy mills that you can adopt/ save for a lot less money. They also should not be left alone theyre a very social dog. Ours loves everyone and cries if he can't say hello to others. we never leave him alone. My partner works from home and Im a home maker. He goes for multiple walks a day and has lots of play dates. everyone who meets him falls in love. This is my first CKCS and I grew with dogs...... Ive never had a dog like this! its like all the things you love about dogs in small package. cuddly, smart, athletic, wonderful personality and just soooo fun and sweet, we laugh constantly! They also should not be feed dry food! ours is on a raw organic diet, we wouldnt feed our kids chips and sugar cereals, so why would we feed our very loved CKCS junk food.

I appreciate your message- but..I didn’t know how reputable my breeder was because everything just fell right into my lap. I was really guided to him and he’s had some issues with his parents being too old. But I look at it this way: he’s been a lot of work and extra care..but who else could have fussed with him as well as me? 💖 I didn’t go looking- he found me.

Great video! Thank you! We have a 5 month old "Casey"! His name is Sarge. We are still struggling with all the "puppy issues" everyone else deals with. Biting, being destructive to area rugs and chasing our cats. He's a very personable little guy and he's already captured our hearts. Please tell us that as he grows out of these puppy traits and when he is "fixed" in about two months that he will begin to calm down. Thank you again for your great video. Dave from Lenexa, Kansas
