Caulk Like a PRO in 5 Simple Steps. SECRET Revealed!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to Apply Caulk Like a PRO in 5 Simple Steps! The fear that most beginners have with applying caulk or silicone is that it’s messy and they’re worried that the end result won’t look good or seal where it’s meant to seal. The fact is, is that once you know how, applying caulk or silicone is really quite simple.
The first thing you need to know is that caulk typically comes in three different variaties. Now Keeping it simple, you have latex-based caulk, silicone-based caulk and Butyl Rubber based caulk.
Latex Caulking is generally used in dry areas…is water based, so you can clean up in water and typically used for caulking carpentry trim like architraves around doors and windows as well baseboards or skirting boards
Silicone caulking is used in wet areas like in a bathroom or kitchen countertop and Butyl Rubber Caulk is an exterior grade sealant.
I hope you enjoy it 👍😁🇦🇺

I LOVE this video. I'm a girl with limited DIY knowledge and was nervous about caulking a gap in my bathroom. I watched several videos and this one is the winner! The 'secret weapon' at the end had me laughing but I immediately went to my freezer and followed the instructions. I did this job yesterday and couldn't stop staring and smiling at my handiwork. THANK YOU!

The popsicle stick blows my mind! Of course! To get the perfect caulking finish, you need something that not only shapes the caulk, but also catches the excess and cleanly removes it for you!! Thank you so much!!! And I never knew about the water with dish soap, either! Going to use this right now, as I'm caulking my upstairs bathroom!

If you plan to keep the caulk for longer than a week or so, also cover the other end of the tube with a plastic bag and elastic band as air gets in from the base as well.

If you got the tip at a sharper angle it's easier imo, like 67.5 degrees , he is using way too much caulking imo, you should barely have to wipe anything off , you need to cut your tip so that it actually fills inside the gap, not leaves a giant line in front that you have to scrape into said gap and remove tremendous amounts of excess ,, I do a shit ton of siliconing at my job for walk in coolers and freezers and I sucked 3 months ago but now I can get a perfect line 60% of the time and not have to wipe any excess off cause it's already perfect,,, Light pressure and a good pointed tip is all you need

Great tips, knackers! I would never have thought of the popsicle stick but will use that the next time I need to do some caulking. Another way to seal the caulk tube is to use an electrical wire nut. It will screw right on to the end of the tube and comes off with no mess to clean up.

Uncle K, Got a tip for you and a bonus tip. Insert a construction nail into the end of your caulking tube. Also not a tip but two things you didn’t mention. 1) on the trigger area of most caulk guns is a hole. You insert the tip of the nozzle into that hole and pull the trigger, severing the tip. Also on most caulk guns, is a stiff wire, that can swing out. That is to puncture the seal 🦭 inside the tube. You stick it down into the opening you made in the nozzle and puncture it inside the tube. Bonus tip; this is not for caulking, it’s for paint brushes. Go to your kitchen and grab either a zipper bag or plastic wrap. When painting and want to take a break, or done for the day. Wrap your paint brush or roller in the plastic wrap and it will keep the paint from drying. The zip lock bag will work for paint brushes. Works best if you can get the whole brush inside. But you can zip up to the handle as well. Thank you, love watching your show, make a million more.

Dear Expert, do u have experience/ advice to share on applying the shaping bits to refine the fresh caulking pushed out from a quick cure & sticky adhesive paste like liquid nails (polyurethane, waterproof, by Selleys )? I want to use it to replace silicone for the floor tiles & curtain boards edges + gaps . The 5 yr no mold label on Wet Area is crap, my friend found mold in just one year here in HK. I suggested him to say "Delay No Mold" to Selleys.

Nice mate! I've always had a bit of trouble caulking bathrooms and kitchens. I get it done, but with much stress. I haven't been using soapy water during the caulk profiling, and by the looks of it, that is making all the difference. I'm guessing the soapy water is preventing the caulk which was scraped off with the paddle pop stick from getting stuck to the tiles up the wall?

Spot on mate! I learnt it on one of my jobs a few years back when l had a professional caulker come in to do all the bathrooms....he had a bag full of icy pole sticks which l was little intrigued about and sure enough after a few questions his little secret was revealed. Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺

First time tub caulker here,,, watched your video to prepare. I also bleached, cleaned, and scraped out old caulking too. Allowed that to dry all night before attempting this. FORGOT 1 STEP… to puncture open a new tube after cutting it at a 45°. I didn’t know what that little metal stick was for. Now I know!

  • @patientzerobeat

    @patientzerobeat

As far as I know, all the caulking tubes I get here (in Toronto) don't have a screw-off nozzle as shown in this video, thus necessitating puncturing the opening with that long metal pointy stick attached to the caulking gun. Years ago i forgot to do this, and kept squeezing the trigger of the gun wondering why nothing was coming out. It turns out the goop was being forced out of the other end, making a huge mess!

A mate of mine suggested using either a used toilet paper\paper towel roll or an empty caulk tube, squeeze it to your desired radius, and use that to scrape the excess caulk and it all accumulates inside the roll so you don't have to keep stopping and cleaning it off the icecream stick.

Uncle Knackers! I really need your advice. I'm a huge fan and your videos gave me confidence to start woodwork and build my garage up. I'm investing in a biscuit jointer which is big money to me. I intend to reference off the fence a lot. The Dewalt DW682k has a dual rack and pinion fence which looks good for keeping it level but is 25% more money. Whereas the Makita PJ7000 has a rack and pinion on one side and a securing clip on the other. I'm worried the Makita fence won't stay parallel due to the clip. I've found one of two reviews which indicate this but can't be certain. What do you think of the Makita PJ7000 fence? Is it ok? Does it keep the boards level when jointed? I've just sold a cheap one I bought because it was too inconsistent. Sorry to ask you directly but I'm having a nightmare finding out and I don't know how else to get an honest opinion than asking my woodwork idol himself!
