A suspect remains at large after a woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Arlington Heights on Tuesday.
The victim, who was only identified as a 66-year-old woman, was struck as she was crossing the intersection at Venice Boulevard and 12th Avenue shortly before 7 a.m.
Surveillance footage of the crash shows the woman using the crosswalk when a white SUV suddenly speeds through and strikes her. The violent impact sent her flying into the air as her body was tossed down the busy street.
The driver doesn’t stop and continues speeding away. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving officers.
The suspect’s vehicle is described as a white Mazda crossover SUV with license plate 8XHG132. There should be significant front-end damage to the vehicle, police said.
Investigators closed the roads at the scene for hours as they spoke to witnesses, canvassed for surveillance video and collected evidence.
The victim’s family and loved ones were seen grieving as a makeshift memorial with flowers and candles was placed near the crash site.
Residents remain distraught and are hoping that drivers will be cautious and just slow down when traveling through the busy intersection.

Sad, She was in a big rush to go to nowhere fast & I hope that the detectives will catch the driver fast
So sad! They were trying to navigate the crosswalk watching the busy traffic on the otherside and didn't see the fast SUV coming for them. The SUV didn't brake at all! How can a person not notice they hit someone without braking?! RIP 🕊

@discerninglight1998: Not only did the SUV not brake, it didn't even slow down after it hit the woman. It just kept going as if nothing happened.

This happened to my grandmother. A drunk driver killed Hernandez took off. He turned himself in a couple of days later. At that point it couldn’t be proven that he was under the influence.

Never ever assume people are paying attention, especially when there is that many drivers on the road. Always assume that they dont see you, because 90% of the time they dont. So sad, RIP 🙏 to the victim...

If the cars are going that means they had a green light. Crossing a busy intersection against the red light is a very bad choice. So sad for the family.
That White SUV keeps going. Crazy!
Looking at the camera footage, I noticed that no one was yielding to the pedestrian. Looks like the pedestrian was assuming drivers would stop. Condolences to the family.

She was in marked crosswalk
shouldve stayed in mexico
You cannot depend on vehicles to stop for you even in a marked crosswalk. You must look all ways before crossing. I learned that as a 5 year old. It also looks like she crossed against the light. The person should have stopped since it looks like it wasn’t their fault.

Going against the light? I don’t think so,she’s clearly inside a pedestrian crosswalk. Where’s there’s usually a guard maybe the guard wasn’t on duty at that time. That sunrise glare in the morning going eastbound will blind you,which I believe happen she comes out the shade into the number 1 lane. Speed,glare,not paying attention,fleeing the scene. 100% drivers fault. My sincere condolences to the family. QEPD🌷

@@discerninglight1998exactly!!! I don’t care whose fault it is. you stop and call 911 immediately. You did hit someone and keep going. I hope the person is located and charged accordingly. So sad for the family involved.

Light? There is no traffic light at that intersection (do you not see the stop sign?) There is however a yellow sign warning drivers of a crosswalk present.
The driver was going fast and didn't stop. Was it murder?

Murder... common really?? Whatever happened its horrific but there was no plan to "kill" the person that crossed over!!
