CATS Eyes Series 1 Full Theme

Epic full-length theme to the first series of TVS crime drama CATS Eyes from 1985. The first series saw the 3 operatives Maggie Forbes, Fred Smith and Pru Standfast (Jill Gascoine, Lesley Ash and Rosalyn Landor) running the Eyes detective agency, which took on private clients but was actually a front for a crack Home Office counter-espionage unit under the watchful eye of controller, Nigel Beaumont (Don Warrington).
In my humble opinion, this is the best TV theme of all time. It was good enough to get its own 7" single release, backed with the vocal version (see my other upload). Sadly it was replaced by a different theme (by legendary saxophonist and composer, the late, great Barbara Thompson) for series 2 and 3 when the agency front was disbanded, the matronly Prue was booted out without explanation to be replaced by posh it-girl Tessa Robinson (Tracy-Louise Ward) and the show had a total reboot.

I was in my mid 20s when C.A.T.S. EYES was on TV and I was head over heels with Prue Standfast. I also have the single among my old vinyl collection along with some other TV themes, ahh! the days of quality TV...
i remember this was fucking amazing to watch as a kid in the 80s
This is the first time i've heard this theme, very eighties, very snazzy, very good. They don't make themes like this anymore!

Did anyone else notice that when it was Maggie Forbes' turn to be the lead detective (both this first theme and the second theme) they always used the extended versions, but not when it was the turn of the other two?

I understand that this was released as a single and that the B side was the theme with words.
When did they ever use this long version? I never remember hearing it! It was my fave tv theme track back when I was a teenager LOVING this show! I wanted to BE Fred! 😂 … and I still love my crime tv

Mine too! They never used the whole thing end to end, but they did use bits of it in the individual episodes and of course the edited version for the opening and closing titles. This music absolutely rocks and I was gutted when they changed it. Check out the vocal version in my other vids!

I agree. Season 2 was better than Season 3, but it never really found its way again.

I think the second season was great 👍 but yes season one was very good quality .
