Cato River Campground - East Arnhem Land

Cato River Campground is located close to Dhalinybuy homeland and is operated by Liya Wanhurr Aboriginal Corporation. The campground is around 86km and is the staging area for some of East Arnhem Lands best fishing! Cato River Campground is also one of the only places in East Arnhem Land that you can get a caravan into, so really good if you have a rooftopper and want to track down that 1m Barra!
Each campsite offers a picnic table and a fire pit. There are also three shade structures and one composting toilet available for use.
The nearby Cato River is a fisher's dream, particularly for those chasing the elusive barramundi! There is a boat launching facility located close to the campgrounds - be careful though as the ramp can get quite muddy and can only be accessed at high tide most of the time.
You can book these campsites online here: book-directonline.com/propert...[0][adults]=2&items[0][children]=0&items[0][infants]=0&currency=AUD&checkInDate=2023-12-21&checkOutDate=2023-12-22&trackPage=yes
There is also some amazing swimming holes nearby, just be careful of crocs!
Enjoy!
If you are heading up the Central Arnhem Road with a caravan, we recommend you make sure the below five things are checked off your list well before hitting the track.
1. Book your accommodation
a. Gove Boat Club: / goveboatclub or their new website (under development 2023) goveboatclub.com.au/ has power / water and is easily the best place to stay with a caravan in Gove.
b. Walkabout Lodge: walkaboutlodge.com.au/ if you cant get into the boat club, camping out the back (no power or water) but it is in the middle of town, good pub, but can get a bit rowdy.
2. Book your transit permit
a. Head over to www.nlc.org.au/apply-for-perm... and book for the days you intend to be on the Central Arnhem Road
3. Book your recreational permit
a. Head over to www.nlc.org.au/apply-for-perm... to book your permit for the time you are staying in East Arnhem Land (you need this to book camp sites!)
4. Book your camp sites (these book out early so don’t expect to get any of the good ones at the last minute as the locals will have already snapped them up)
a. Head over to www.dhimurru.com.au/visiting-... or
b. www.eastarnhemland.com.au/cat... if you want to book Cato - which is the only other site that allows caravans
5. Book your alcohol permit
a. Head over to nt.gov.au/law/alcohol/permits...

Hi Marcus, we just fitted some BOS stabilizer legs onto our Lotus which are made to jack the van up on either side you need to do away with the plastic ramps. It is like what airbags to to level up. Each leg can support 1,600kg and you can jack the whole side of the van up to change a tyre. Just need a drill to operate. You measure from the top of the stabilizer to the ground to work out whether you need the 600mm, 500mm, 400mm. We have 600mm rear and 500mm front. Info is all on their site.

My question is, have you reinforced where the Boss legs are? Stabiliser legs, and possibly the mounting location are there to stabilise not to take the whole weight as the wheels are on the ground. Just my thoughts.

@@lloydhenriksson The mounts are welded to the underneath of the chassis with 3 inches of weld each side and made on 6mm plate. If you are a welder you would know weld is good for 1 ton per inch. You only use them in the vertical if lifting to change a wheel when it is hooked to the car. We have a Lotus van like his and the mounting points are heavy duty. Other kinds of van would need to be checked though, some of them would be flimsy. Good for levelling though. Thanks
