Maybe a little frosting in the shape of a cross on the buns would be good. I notice that hot cross buns in the grocery stores and bakeries do that. Always enjoy your cooking videos. Love it that it's hit or miss just like recipes I try.

Lol- yes! Hit or miss is a good way to describe it. We never know how things will go in the kitchen, but that is part of the fun. A touch of frosting would be a nice addition!

To make a smoothie better without adding sweeteners, I add a fair amount of fresh ginger or some cinnamon. Or both! Mmm. You definitely gave me a craving for chicken soup and dumplings. I'll have to do that while we still have cold weather. It's such a comfort.

I use dried currants in my hot cross buns. They are tiny and less intrusive than raisins. I always put an icing cross on top, but we have ours on Easter Sunday. If I had them on Good Friday I would leave the icing off.

That is part of our hot cross bun dilemma... they are so delicious with the icing or honey, fresh out of the oven- but then they seem like a real treat and we feel bad eating them on Good Friday. Having them Easter morning is a great idea!

Try dried pineapple pieces in hot cross buns or mixed peel . Sometimes i use chocolate chips but i understand you might not want to because its lent. I think u also should add some spices such as cinnamon and all spice and some orange zest. The spices will really elevate the test. I love hot cross buns . My mom always them for us for lent.

Yay! It kind of reminded us of chicken pot pie as soup... but definitely easier to make than CPP :)

Ohmy the chicken soup does sound so good & comforting. Last year, on the 6yr anniversary of my dad's passing, which is also slaviq, I made for the first time a yeasted cornmeal dinner roll. It was delicious & has become a favorite for soup nights. I'm sure the hot cross bun recipe would be delicious & so good with butter. Yum! I'm so glad that you had better luck with the rolls on the baking pan. I was a little worried. Thank you for being here with us !

Lol- "I was a little worried".... so were we! If you could have been in the kitchen when we realized that the author of this book also wrote the Vatican cookbooks, you would have gotten a good laugh, Lena. We were sweating. Once we saw the recipe for octopus, we looked up the author and then felt doomed. But thankfully both recipes turned out :)

We are so glad you enjoyed the video :) On Good Friday here we try not to eat sweets, so we would probably forgo the honey. A plain bun seems more penitential somehow... but a little honey or a little white frosting does sound delicious.

Pardon the dumb question, but pls enlighten me... why no honey on the crossbuns for Good Friday? TIA.😊

Hello- it's just our preference here. We try not to eat sweets on Good Friday. The plain buns seem more penitential somehow...
