My husband received a Cathedral Windows quilt from his uncle when his aunt passed. The quilt was made by the aunt's mother. It was all done by hand and even as an experienced sewer/quilter, I could not figure out how the blocks were created. It is 74"x84" and the colored fabrics are about 1.5" square. I searched and found your video, and WOW, what a process! It makes us appreciate what we have all the more. Your quilt is beautiful. Thank you souch for sharing the process!! ❤

I remember my grandmother doing one of these by hand in the early 1970s. If I'm not mistaken, my mothers oldest sister got it after Gran died. Love the short cuts. I started a cathedral window quilt when my daughter had a twin bed ... only used machine for the white pieces putting them together, sewing on in long strips, then hand sewed all the squares in. She then went to a Full sized bed before I finished, so I added more rows of the white muslin and kept adding squares. She has now moved in with her boyfriend, so I need to add some more strips of muslin. I’m keeping this pink, light blue and lavender, and kind of try for a pattern, changing with every edge. It definitely pays to get all the muslin at once, but as I said, I keep having to alter the size, LOL, so I have a few squares of “white” muslin that aren’t exactly the same color of white. Thank you for sharing

*_Hi Collette....I had same issue with the white not matching on this quilt....I made sure It was the same barcode number/ color of white but since it wasn't from the same bolt- it didn't match perfectly. I think I'm the only one that can tell though. That's wonderful that you keep adding on to the quilt as the situation changes 💟_*

Hi! Judy Hammack here. I live in Ardmore, OK. I just discovered your channel. While I love all kinds of crafts and have taught myself many of them, sewing is my all time favorite. Happy am 67 years old and have been sewing since I was 6-8 when my mother taught me on a Singer treadle machine. I am just getting into quilting. I have always wanted to do a cathedral window quilt. Watching this video has inspired me to want to proceed. However, I have so man projects that I need to finish first. I am as sitting at a table in my sewing room working on a diamond painting for my grandsons at 8:07 tonight. We are in a winter storm warning and have gotten quite a bit of sleet and are expecting snow tomorrow. We don’t have this cold very often. Pretty cold at wind chill of around 21. Not as bad as further north, but that is why we live in south central Ok. Loved the video. Your quilt is absolutely stunningly gorgeous!!!!!

This is beautiful! I've been trying different ways to sew cathedral windows. I've seen this way, and just before you attach the flaps, they would slip a5" square under, so there was a colorful background, same color or scrappy, then the polyfil under the picture fabric, then sewing the frame around the picture. This method seems to be less bumpy, lumpy. That's what I've been running into... thick seams and/or lumps where the seams meet. Love your quilt ❤😊

❤❤❤ Tracy ❤❤❤ This tutorial for Cathedral Window Quilt is the best I've found. I'll break it up like you did and chain sew the backing/framing fabric construction and then join in sets of 6. I don’t want my picture fabric to fray, so I will only cut small batches at a time. I'm so excited. My grandies are 11yrs and 13yrs so I have a little more time than you had 😂😂😂❤❤❤😂😂😂 Even if they don't want the quilts I would have made a great achievement and I can always sell them. But I have wanted to make Cathedral Windows forever! 🎉

You can also sew the sides of each block together before you tack the centers. No stitching seen on the back, but it’s a matter of preference.

This is amazing! I'm so happy for your daughter and son-in-law that you have finished this one of a kind heirloom quilt. The only thing that could top it is making it out of someone very special's clothes, say a dearly departed loved one or a baby's outgrown clothes. You explained the process so well. Thank you

Oh My Goodness Tracy ❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍 Wow girl, This Quilt Looks Spectacular. You did a wonderful job. I knew you would complete this quilt, but I honestly didn’t expect to see it finished this quickly! Your techniques or making this quilt looks better than the one I followed. I recall it being difficult to sew the panel’s together and reason I chose to make mine into a 20x20” pillow with a envelope back. You are a Rick Star for finishing this quilt to quickly 🤩🥳👍🥳 You deserve a good rest and something special, so treat yourself girl 😁🥰 Bless you, Chris

*__Thank you for such kind words Chris.💟 2 days after I uploaded the 1st video and after reading all the encouragement......I put it on my sewing machine and added a few squares then the next day added some more and after that I couldn't stop...It literally only took about 6/7 hours total to finish it. I'm happy to be done for sure!!!!! -------About the technique I use....when I was in the practicing phase of this quilt I could never get the "panels" straight with each other. So that is why I chose the zig zag method.✅ WAY EASIER to control ✅__*
