Catgirl Creeps On DnD Player Until He Quits | r/rpghorrorstories

Ойын-сауық

In today's episode of RPG Horror Stories, we have a tale about a Dungeon Master that kills a player's character for narrative reasons. A story about a DM kicking a player for having a sick son. A story about a murderhobo that learns it may not be fun after using mage hand. A story about a DM that ghosts new players. And a story about a cat girl the UwU's a player til they leave.

Honestly, I think the "My mage hand has a will of its own" is a decent save if you want a reason for the character to stick around with the party and don't want a mulligan. You could probably build a decent side plot about how that happened and how to fix it. But, you need to work with the DM on that.

Actually I kind of like the idea of "mage hand has a will of its own". That's a pretty interest idea for a character, a mage whos magic is a character in it's own right. They have no control over it and is just as surprised as anyone when it does something.

Had a DM who didn't like me and wanted to get closer to the girl who played our wizard. She and I worked together and got along well. I saw it coming and he killed me. Problem was three other players came with me and as I picked up everything to go home he thought it was funny... until the other three got up too. I was their ride to the game. DM tried to tell me they couldn't leave there was at least two hours left in the game. I told him, not for me. And we all left with him sitting at the table with one of his buddies who had main character syndrome. The DM asked if we were all coming back next week and everyone looked at me. Random acts of chaos would not be acceptable in the gaming world or the other player characters and actions have consequences. Mage Hand Story. That could be retconned into it's own arc. If the player really does want to, the DM could say that the character in fact didn't do it. But another, more powerful, wizard did. That other wizard could have taken over the player's mage hand with some magic item, spell, or artifact to make it look like the player did the deed. The player constantly saying his "mage hand" spell has a mind of it's own is then legit. And the player, with the party, need to find out who is doing this and why.

Listening to the the Catgirl story, I learn about boundaries, I am going to put it out there, I had did some of the things Catgirl have done with my Druid. However, I didn't had a dm telling me to stop but I only did it once, and I ended up asking myself if it was to cringe about it? But I know now from listening that maybe I should of ask the player " Hey, I would you like it, if my character be a cat in roleplay? " " One question before roleplay, will you feel comfortable if my druid do cat things to your character? " and lastly ask " What are the things that will make you feel uncomfortable in real life before we start roleplay. " The reason I sometimes as theses questions is because I don't wish to make anyone in game feel anyhow when I get time to roleplay with them. Even tho my memory is not the best, but I will still try not to cross that boundaries of, not being a selfish ahole, or just looking over others needs as if it is not important. Afterward telling you this, I will wish to give your cats a piece of tuna for being good kitties. Thank you for your time and the video.

I have an experience of my own actually, thinking of it. It’s between me and like four of my irl (used to be) best friends. Out of everyone, except the DM (alongside how we were all complete starters in general, were murder hobo’s. I wasn’t, which they didn’t really like, even though we were supposed to be the good guys to kill some ice Lych that’s trying to freeze the world. Well as some time rolls by, some sessions in, which I should’ve just left as they kept trying to kill off my character with anything they could pull (my character being an ice/fire wizard that has faint healing abilities). Sooner or later, there’s nothing. Some sessions that aren’t around due to everyone having to work on Sunday which we usually had for DnD. More time goes by, I haven’t heard from them for about a month and a half or so until I finally get a message in the group chat that another sessions can be held on the oncoming Sunday (April 1st of 2023), weird how April fools is on a Sunday and of such events I had.. but what happened was, in private as one of my friends who we were working together at the time ended up having coworkers spread some false rumor about me saying he’s being real’ slow in the workplace while being around me. I never knew anything of the such and they just went on to ghost me. As soon as I responded that I actually didn’t have work this Sunday and I’m willing to come on by, I’m just told that said coworker heard some stuff and they came to an agreement on some things before kicking me from the group chat. After that happened, I was annoyed, being at work at the time and dealing with annoying customers and other things, I was actually really ticked off. I messaged my used to be coworker about what happened and apparently, right then and there, they told me about said rumor. I now became ticked off, calling them out for being petty as they apparently offed my character in the campaign due to said things. I asked them why they never came forth with talking to me sooner rather than later and it’s because they “needed some time to think and rest it over”, like that was going to help out in some sort of way. Afterwards, I was pretty much done with them. I’ve been their doormat for some time, through middle school up until we got out and to this point. Thinking of how petty they were still annoys me, even after so much I’ve done to try and help them even when I’ve been dealing with my own self as they never gave a shit about trying to really help me as I was always “self centered” in their eyes. I’m still interested in DnD a bit, but hell. I don’t think I can really trust anyone anymore with how they weren’t the first group to backstab me in such a way, hurts a ton when it’s actual people I’ve known in real life for a long while.

Okay. While I realize there are plenty of reasonable interpretations, my initial thought at hearing "the fairy flies up and hits the dragon, so it collapses onto another character" was that we've just ventured into anime territory. Which can work, but usually doesn't if the DM has a story in mind. It sounds like the player then lost control of their saving throws and another player made the final saving throw for their character - and I'm thinking "check, you want somebody else to feel guilty they failed to save their friend." After hearing the response to the character being revivable was for random people to show up to steal their soul it's pretty clear that yes, this was a planned death to add drama and significance to the story. So while I doubt the DM was trying to punish the player, it's also clear this is something they're just going to do again. You do not shape this story, and your time might be better spent just watching TV together. [Appended] If I cast a spell, it behaved in a way I didn't expect, and killed a child... I wouldn't keep casting that spell! By all means, give this guy the chance to make a new character, but his explanation is a voodoo shark. It just raises more questions.

I'll be honest, the cat girl story has me doubting a bit since that sounds like someone's weird fantasy rather than something that might have happened. My educational situation is weird to say the least but let's just say I've never heard of a school drama club, never mind an RPG club, that would be okay with that happening. Not to mention clubs like that tend to be observed by teachers and such if they happen on school property, and for this to be a school DND club one would assume that would be the case. Another bit that causes doubt is the description of his own character as being a "drunken barbarian" because again, I doubt the school authorities would be on board with kids even pretending to get drunk given the issues they have with teens and beer to begin with. As none of this would have flown in my day (I turned 15 in 1990s) I can't imagine what it's like more recently with all the security increases and stuff.... so I'm just not seeing it. I'll also say I have RPed some messed up stuff over the years, and I'll be the first one to tell you some of it has involved some physical demonstrations of various sorts, sometimes for comedic value. That said I have never seen a teenage girl literally get that close to a nerd they presumably do not know during a D&D game, and this is when I've played with people involved in all kinds of relationships and been the one in one myself, and also even seen a few case of gaming mara hati types where some girl sleeps her way through the group as rare as that is, and even gamed with some furries (Iet's just say I've played TMNT, Ironclaw, and the Ironclaw offshoot Jadeclaw) and I still cannot envision this happening with real people. Other than that I tend to agree with Doge, I think the DM should let the new player doing something stupid on an impulse slide. Let's just say I've done some very stupid things on impulse myself, especially when I first started. I'm not sure if I've ever truly been what would currently be called a "murderhobo" and in the old days we used to just refer to as a "hack and slash role player", but I have had my moments. I will admit a couple of times I have been "that guy" especially back then mostly when I felt some kind of RP was overcomplicating things. For example I do remember when I was playing in a version of "Desert Of Desolation" we pretty much met a tribe of nomads that were wandering around and had something I wanted (I think it was spell scrolls for my spell book) but couldn't afford, and we knew where they were setting camp. Not far away we found this temple full of evil cultist types and I was informed by those who did detection on them that they were evil, and we also heard they were robbers. They had this idol full of gems in their lair, and the PCs were insisting on being good doobies and negotiating with them. In the end I realized that for one I didn't think we could trust them, and for another they were murdering jerks who were defined as evil on general principle anyway, and finally they had money and if we killed them I could take that money (in the form of idol gems) and buy the scrolls I wanted. So when the party "face" type was pretty sure they could bribe our way through (which was going to cost us money and possibly get us ambushed) I pretty much went "fuck this crap" and lobbed a fireball into the group an started a fight. Let's just say it was not appreciated, but my attitudes were pretty much understood. I got seriously chewed out.... and hey they let me buy my scrolls so my spellbook was happy next time I had time to scry, and it meant a group of evil jerks never had a chance to ambush us later (I don't know that would have happened, but let's say it seemed like it would have been predictable given all the rumors from the nomad merchants which seemed to refer to these guys ).

Oh my fricken lord what is it with people that 'retcon victories'? FFS I've had that happen to me as a Player and it sucks horribly.. could never imagine doing that to my own Players; let them have their hard earned victories, especially if it was an encounter meant to kill. Case in point? We were told the Great Red Wyrm that was divebombing towards us was way out of our power range and that we should flee, well my Lamia Fighter is a prideful fool that decided to stay back and make a called shot to the heart when the others fled. Nat20 with a nat20 confirmation. Massive damage dealt. The wyrm failed their FORT save and was slain instantly.. only for the actual wyrm to pop out from behind a piece of cover giving a slow clap. The campaign later on went on to be a 'it was all for nothing, you can't win' scenario that retconned the past five years of sessions and made it all as though it never happened.

First story: DM is being a jerk for killing the PC off in such a railroady way. If a dead character was needed they should have either talked about it first or just offed a popular npc instead. Third: The new player should have been given an "are you sure?" moment, possibly accompanied by an explanation of the consequences. I suspect the player may have been running off a video-game logic regard the effects of actions. The faulty mage-hand could have been a good idea if used by a more experienced and sensible player. Fourth: I kinda agree with OP's wife there. DM was certainly a jerk, but being shoddy at communicating problems, leading to rude avoidance behaviour like this, is a common issue with "non-confrontational" types of people. Fifth: Even if she did have a crush on OP she should still be told to learn boundaries.

What the hell is up with DM's retconning outcomes in games?? I guess I'm just too old and woefully unhip to current versions of The Great Game. I have retconned one...ONE game outcome and it was the only TPK I have ever had happen to my players in almost 40 years of gaming and to this day, some 30 years after it happened, I regret having done it. I wish I'd just let them stay dead, but in a rare moment of compassion because this was the very first game one of the players had ever played with my group. Anyway, you young hoodlums and your retconning stay off my lawn because I ain't reconning deaths anymore.

First story is an open and shut case of DM being a jerk. Communication and empathy are not present at all. Second story is actually the same as the first, just a different scenario. DM is kinda a jerk. Dodged a bullet there like Doge said. Third story... I might be an outlier here but it seems like OP and the others are keeping the problem alive. The player in question might be aware they messed up and is trying to find a way to work things out in his own way. Lay off and let them learn.(Glad Doge seems to agree with this though XD) Retribution is not as effective as reformation when it comes to long term enjoyment in most cases. Fourth story... Dang, on a roll with these DMs just sucking at communicating. OPs wife sounds like a good partner at least. Fifth story at least has a DM willing to kinda stand up? But yeah, people like that give furries a bad name. My bro is one and Ive met a number of them who are pretty awesome. (I'm aware she might not be a furry and could just be playing around, but associations will be made...) Boundaries, lady. That goes both ways.

The first story is just a hot mess. Dm should have took OP aside, discussed his plans, and gotten input from them. Otherwise, he's crippled the group effectively and left a player with a sour experience. The second story sounds like DM blocked op for prioritizing the game over family health. Either that or after the whole pandemic the DM was expecting OP to have contracted covid from his family. To the 3rd story, yeah I just think Rivers needs to own up. There's a point where a joke becomes less funny and more annoying. In the 4th story I'm kinda on and off the DM's case. In a way I can understand what happened as a lot of DM's would see not making a session a red flag but at the same time I find it stupid he accepted it BEFORE blocking them. I feel like the other players in the game were to blame given how they were nonconfrontational. And now the last story, OH THE LAST STORY, this itself is just a mistake all together. For starters, the DM is too light and should have stopped it from point A. And the "CATGIRL" needs to get a grip on reality and not try to not commit borderline molestation.

First story: That's bloody awful GMing, just deciding to kill off someone's character 'for story reasons'. Firstly, if your story relies on something like that, it's not as good a story as you think it is. Secondly, if you really think it's needed, talk to the player and explain, then come up with some way of having the death mean something, maybe also giving them some kind of minor boost to their new character in return for having to lose their first one prematurely. Mage Hand story: Yes, you absolutely can tell him to make a new character or GTFO. Maybe reading up on the Five Geek Fallacies would be beneficial. That's not even getting started on the GM letting him do it. Mage Hand can't do that. No idea why Doge is saying the player regrets the action when he's shown no remorse or accepted any responsibility. Yes, he's new, but if he's allowed to claim he's not responsible for his character's actions now, you'll be enabling him, which helps neither him nor anyone else he may game with. Put a stop to that bollocks now or watch him star in future horror stories down the line.

The op who won't let go of the Mage Hand incident is being unreasonable. New player is learning about the freedom of roleplaying, takes it too far for the table, and realizes the lesson of consequences. Cool. Let him back out this one time. Continually calling out his character and making it so no one in the world wants to interact with him, feels like hazing, not a roleplay opportunity. The op is punishing him, making the game unfun over a first time rookie mistake. He almost seems like he wants to push the new player into becoming a murder hobo over a single incident.

Combat is supposed to be frenetic, chaotic and dangerous. If people cannot state their action when their turn comes around I put them on Defence until next time. I would rather slam my d in a door jamb than be sitting for half an hour for a player's turn to come around again.
