Another great strategy man. I saw a few comments about submitting video evidence so I'll address that portion of the rule book for those peeps. In Kayak specific events in OCT the kayak needs to be in the photo, and the photo is what gets judged only. Yes I agree it's clear as day he caught it legally and in competition; however, video evidence is to support a legally photo'd fish - it's not to replace a photo missing material needed to be approved. Those items are Identifier, Board, Kayak, and proper orientation of the fish. Making an exception in an event with so much on the line would just open Pandora's box for future events, we can't have precedent out there giving leeway in a situation like that. I'm going to be perfectly honest, I hated having to DQ it and I called JJ immediately once I saw it. Posted to the OCT Facebook group to remind everyone, and sent a mass email from the app to all the anglers to remind them all as well, I hate DQ'ing fish. I try my absolute best as an admin to ensure the anglers get every fish caught on the board - we want to see offense!!! And we don't want to gain the reputation of having anglers winning on technicalities and not merit. But as admin whether it's my best friend, KZreadr with 150k subs, or anyone else I have to treat everyone equal. In other news I'm trying so hard to get JJ to go to Sandusky for that event to chase his favorite fish - channel cats!!!!

Hoover Reservoir has been stocking blues since 2011. They are in the 50 pound range now. Ohio is making a comeback with bluecats. They have been selecting lakes to stock them in for the past ten years. Before that the Ohio River was the only place to go.

I live near Columbus, and I haven't been to Hoover in 35 years ! I usually fish in Griggs reservoir for Carp and catfish !

The key is to educate Ohio's anglers about selective harvest and keeping conservation in mind. I am in school for Natural Resources Law Enforcement and I am amazed by the people I meet and the way they treat fisheries. Not to mention the people that litter

Just getting into the video, but here in PA, red horse is my #1 go to bait. Especially a big head. They never last long. Edit to.say....yep, the head is where it's at. Just about a sure fire thing in the water I fish.

Sorry to hear about the fish disqualification, but happy that you were able to get the entry fee back. Hope you were able to drown the loss of the first fish with some good bbq.

I use catfish as cutbait, when i catch a one im going to eat i chop up the scraps and use it as bait, has caught me my biggest flathead and near 20lb blues easy.

Don't feel so bad I've gotten DQ'd from a bass tournament with Kamo in Missouri that I was in 3rd place, I had a treble double hooked in my leg all day and forgot to check off the water before we left to go to the hospital. Worst part is the president of the club seen me check off the water and even seen the hook in my leg earlier that day, he put in same spot I did!

You almost had it justin mistakes happen it was a great video looking forward to some more of these types of videos

Lessons learned, at least you know you made a good decision on where to fish. Maybe you should open the rule book before the next one just to make sure you dont do anymore dumb things. You were pretty calm about it though. Not too sure i'd been able to film a youtube video after i got that phone call.

Technicalities sux don't beat yourself up over as hard as it is to swallow id have to say weve all done it competing in something with the measuring time date location stamp you guys play by none of you have to really worry about being beat the wrong way I've lost archery tourneys to point padders but it's hard to prove out in the woods while your shooting I've also lost to technicalities like shooting to fast through the chronograph and be 3 to 5 feet per second to fast we know you won that's all that matters hold your head up high and go after them next month best of luck....

I've been watching for a little while now and I have a question? When you're using your catfish rods you have the bite alarm on but the reel is not in free spool. Is there a reason you do that? I have a reel that is similar and I always turn the bite alarm on and leave the reel in Freespool.

I get better hookups with the reel engaged. I will still turn the clickers on so I can hear drag pulling if I get a bite and am not watching the rods
