unbelievable driving by both. the track is really narrow and slow, and yet the guy in the Ferrari is not being humiliated by that crazy caterham with a superb driver, just a bit beaten... Surprised how much faster the Scud is on the straights though, and most of all how fast it is on fast corners and direction changes. really impressive from both cars and drivers.

For something with the aerodynamics of a house brick, you have to totally love the mad Caterham! :)

You say that, but in this ones case, it has the aero screen, and combined with the fact the car is so narrow means its actually more aerodynamic than you'd think. Also caterhams unlike even modestly priced sports cars, has almost a perfectly flat floor, with a 15 degree upward tilt on the rear overhang, meaning the car doesnt produce much in the way of lift, so traction is also excellent. One of these has a damn site less resistance to moving air than the car it's chasing :)

Thanks for the info! Very interesting, I didn't know that. My only experience driving a Caterham was years ago with a Seven fitted with a chipped and tuned 1600cc engine from an XR3i - a rocket to 60mph then it ran out of grunt a bit although we did get 105mph out of it IIRC. It had the usual Seven-type windscreen which would not have helped. :)

The Caterham catches up in brakeing zones and corners but gets left trailing a little on the longer straights. Dogged determination wins the day thou. Entertaining clip.

The tyre on the Scud had been on the car since it was new in 2009, and it was Pirelli PZero Corsa. But I think the rubber was a bit hard, since it looked the same after about 10 trackdays in Norway and 1 trip to Nurburgring, driving there for 3-4 days, pluss 1200 km on the road down and back again before this day :-) Anyway, we had a great day with some nice laps :-) The R500 is a great car, and very fast! :-)

Used to own a factory built '89 Caterham Super Sprint 1.7 and it was a great car, but a little expensive to have sat in a garage 6 months of the year. 3 years ago i bought a mk1 Eunos and to be honest, I have more fun in it. I'll never sell it. It's not as fast, obviously, but it's far more fun to drive the tits off it on public roads as the overall speed is much lower. Best £600 i ever spent!

Good piece of video. Entertaining. I have a Super 7 1400 Hayabusa. Sequential gearbox helps lap times. You would have gotten around him earlier sans passenger, which adds a good percentage of weight. 430 had a little more top end on the straight, but you were generally holding a tighter line through the corners and he was holding you up there a bit. Stock Avon rubber?
