Caterham Academy 2021 Mallory Park RACE with Tiff Needell

It's round 2 of the 2021 Caterham Academy! This time it's at Mallory Park, near Leicester. Instead of a sprint like last time at Curborough, it's a race! It's not only Paul's first race start, but there are lots of other drivers making their racing debut here too! All driving the 175BHP, road legal Caterham Academy cars!
For qualifying, Paul chose a slightly different Avon tyre, made for drier weather. Could it be a pole position for Lovecars in the first race? There's tenths of seconds in it! With our very own Tiff Needell out there interviewing, we get to speak to some of the other drivers on their qualifying session too.
Then it's race time and we join Paul on board his Caterham as he overtakes and moves up the pack, using the slipstream of other cars to challenge for pole position, followed by overshooting a corner, some unfortunate contact with another car! From there, it was trying to recover as many places as possible, lunging down the insides of his competitors to finish in a respectable position!
A huge congratulations to each and every Caterham Academy competitor. You’re now all officially racing drivers!

This is a really good format, with Tiff doing the paddock interviews etc. It feels like proper race coverage.

Absolutely brilliant!! And what a performance Paul. Great recovery from the hairpin faux pas. The corner speed you were carrying through Gerrard's and the Esses was noticeably quicker than the others I reckon. A bit of patience instead of the grass tracking, and the win would have been in the bag! Tiff must feel like a very proud dad! Love following this journey - it's just fantastic to watch.
Well done Paul… great recovery drive! Love the Tiff commentary too. Got a real 80s BBC Saturday afternoon style about it.

What a great video and format. Love the first person view of the action and its great following one person from start to finish. Can't believe you're only on KZread this is better than most coverage you see on tv
Don't worry about the spin off, Paul, that was a great drive. 15th to 6th, I bet when the dust settles you will have learnt a lot about emotion management. Well done to Tiff as well. Love Cars... second to none.

Just now catching up with this. What a great series! Coverage of grassroots motorsport, and paths into the sport, is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Now, if only there were more racing series like this Stateside… Great driving, too!

That was a great first race. My first race was also at Mallory. This also gives Paul, as a car presenter, a lot more credibility.

Loved this! Reminded me of my first Formula V race after going through the race school at Skip Barber. My heart rate went up just watching! Tiff knows how to narrate a race!

I was wondering why I saw Tiff in the paddock lol! Brilliant racing, it was one of the best races of the year so far, and from a field of Rookies! Bring it back here next year

Haha no interview with Philip Clark (passed at 14:50) a racing gent would no doubt have given the place back as he tried to give room but still got whacked wide for his pleasure! Paul is clearly pretty quick though, great format overall with Tiff so definitely thumbs up from me and looking forward to the next round!

@22:05 'Paul Woodman racing driver' well said by our Tiff, there's a picture right there and well done to you Paul. You fluffed it but you got yourself back in the pack. If I could I'd love to do that, sadly just don't have the means. That said, as a soon to be 53 year old ex-pat living in Thailand, on a Kawasaki Ninja 650, not too bad for an old fart..

There is a car channel that is more bothered about rewarding the first seven commenters ! How sad is that ! Than just providing good content ! Keep up the good work Tiff
I love club level racing because the drivers get out of the car and are happy to just be racing. Nobody is ever miserable about coming third like they are in F1.
It's much more fun than F1

Sadly, the Caterham Academy is for rookie drivers only! Tiff is there to give Paul some coaching though! 😁
If only Paul had had the salad instead of the lasagne!
Try not let the pressure of second make you drive risky, been first defending its the most pressure spot in the field stay second drive clean and fast force the mistake on them.
I’ve driven an F1 car on that circuit
If you tried some of those inside "dive-bombing" passes in a more serious racing series you might find your tires slashed in the morning
