We had our share of mean roosters growing up. He would be a jerk everyday when my brothers and sisters waited at the end of our driveway for the schoolbus. One Saturday morning, my mom asked me to go down the driveway to get the mail. The rooster chased me all the way into backporch of our house. Mom chased him out to the yard, and then went all angry momma bear on him. I have a picture in my mind of her broom in hand, standing wild-eyed over that quickly departed rooster in hair curlers and a nightgown. Us kids learned real damn quick that lurking beneath the loving sweet farmwife was someone we don't EVER wanna mess with. She's crazy!😆

For the pond: if you cut down the grass around the pond edge before everything starts to grow for the season, it can sometimes help to keep duck weed from exploding. It needs the protection of the taller grasses through the winter to survive. So, if you take that away you may still have enough of a cold spell to end it's cycle. But... You need to act soon or it won't work.

To both of you, once again thank you for the video. I have to say that it could get quite easy to get jealous of your healthy, outdoorsy type lifestyle that you share with us. Most people don’t realize exactly what you do NOT share with us. Your, 40-50 hour work week in the “real” world, the constant other bits and pieces that you don’t show, the constant resetting of cameras and equipment, like moving a car or truck 5-10 feet just to get a better picture. OR, trying to get an animal to cooperate in the making of a video. Again, thank you both for what you do and get no thanks for! Rod

I know from previous videos you are planning on restoring your firewood store, I know that is a priority down the line. Can I suggest that you consider adopting a system of palletised/stillage storage to make it simpler to handle wood movements to the house. Simply store the wood on pallets with raised sides and move with the tractor as needed. Also keeps the main store more organised.

We have ran up to 100 head of sheep , although we are down to about 40 and we have had bad years for coyotes and we put a old boom box type radio in the barn and have the corral lit up . But since we have put the radio in, we have had no problems. Our neighbors had one killed and other incidents, and they are only 100 yards or so from us . Vigilance is still needed but has worked for us . Don't turn it down too much , let them puppies think someone is around!!! Ps the animals enjoy our country music!!!😊

I was thinking Evan, you need muck buckets (poop) for the barn so you can scoop it and put it in there, then empty when it gets full. It will help keep the smell down. Then you pulled out 2 red buckets that look like them, and then I realized there is protein for the animals. LOL Save them use those buckets. You use the tractor to move them and empty them. Love Maya and her love for the camera. Have a great weekend!!

Another channel that I watch is Outdoors With The Morgan's, and they make up fire starter out of wood chips and wax blended together and put into bags, that might be a good alternative for you Evan and Rebecca, so you don't have to split up kindling. Just a thought! I used to work for a Trade Show/Graphic Design company here in Louisville, and the NFMS and the fair were two of the busiest times of the year for us, with setting up/taking down displays, making new graphics and whatever else customers/vendors needed. My local feed store was shocked I moved one of those mineral tubs onto a feed cart and took it in the store. I told them I would prefer they load it for me 😂. Unloading it at home without anything but my own power was a challenge but I managed to find a hill to back up to and was able to scoot it off my truck. I can't wait to get a tractor to meet my needs. I'll be in heaven. I drag bales with my truck and then roll them over by hand. I can't move them by hand anymore. At least not very far like I used to. You are making a lot of progress on your farm! I enjoy how you learn as you go and show your failures as much as your successes. We can all learn or relate to both sides in one way or another.

Coyotes are bad in our area too (MS). Although they usually go after smaller stuff like barn kittens. They kept the population of barncats down severely for several years until we got all the adult female cats who survived fixed out of sheer pity. Oddly enough we usually don’t see adults go missing. But coyotes have been known to go after calves.

JudithB Hope you have a good time!!! I need to make kindling too this coming week, down to the last bucket full! I did lose one of the new chicks, but the other 9 are doing well. The old hems have started laying last week too. The hens are cleaning the garden for awhile longer, I plan to start cleaning the garden in March and get the rabbit poo spread in the beds. I want to get the drip system set up this year. The hoop beds are doing well so far. I got a furnace repairman in finally, and new parts should go in next week. Meanwhile continuing the smaller repairs, cleaning and painting inside. Pre-spring exercise program!!! My LGd has been barking a lot at night, keeping the coyotes down in the valley, but we have a possuum eating feed and dog food.

Does removing the duckweed actually work to control how much is on the pond? Skimming seems like it could be a time consuming endeavor for a pond of his size. Thanks posting this idea.
