Catching tuna Maldivian style - Greenpeace
Globally, tuna stocks are heavily over fished. But the fishermen in the Maldives - catching their skipjack by pole and line - are giving their skipjack tuna a brighter future.

this is really cool. i would like to see more of this technique.
These guys have been doing it their whole lives. They aren't scared of the sea and they are extremely strong swimmers. Also with so many people around if someone goes overboard there it doesn't go unnoticed.
This is a terrific example of sustainable catch. I hope these guys great successes and the greatest blessing.

Fish 4 ever was the canned tuna company but was only sold in the UK if you don't live there you could probably buy it on amazon or request for a local organic store to try to sell it. Maybe even get your community to sign a petition and ask for that product at most of your stores would be great for that company and the environment hope this helps

That is real fishing
not only fishermen in the Maldives which catch fish like that . Indonesian traditional fishermen also catch fish with that style to
this is usually something we see in cartoons. Fisherman hauling in one fish after the other.
Great fishing....
For all you people nagging about of they should use a net, a net would catch mostly bie-catch (fish they don't want and would throw back dead) and it would destroy reefs. With the poles there is almost zero bie-catch. I know this because I live in nove-scotia and have oceans as a class on its own.

I think this is a much better method than the nets so they do not have any bie-catch so all the sharks that would have been caught if they used a net are still roaming free.
@doodl4898
6 жыл бұрын
This method of fishing is better than nets so animals that are not targeted do not get caught in a net and usually, the animals that are not wanted that are caught in a net are out of water for too long before they throw them back, so basically they are throwing a dead carcass into the water. That is why this method is better, if you are against bie-catch.
It's nice to see that some companies still care about the environment, and not just their executive's pockets.
For those wondering, the spraying water is to hide the hook also it is the engine too, and the tuna name is skipjack tuna.
Well shit, that looks like it'd be just plain stupid fun

This is a good educational video, I don't see why people make such a big fuss over it. It's pole and line caught which is slightly time consuming than net catching although it provides us with a better sustainable approach for future stocks. Tuna is one of the most favourite fish in the U.K, we consume over 12bn tins a year and it's got to come from somewhere like the Maldives.
It is alluring one!!!! Content really Awesome!!
الصلوة والسلام عليك يا رسول الله، Love for Maldives from Jamia Ahmedia Sunnia Alia Madrasha. Chittagong, BANGLADESH.
looks fun
Great work guys!! Fantastic to see sustainable eco friendly fishing for a change! This style of fishing doesn't catch unwanted catch, which gets thrown out and wasted with nett fishing. Also, net fishing nets the whole school, never to be seen again, where with poling, some fish escape and the school will grow again in numbers. I have bought skipjack tuna before from coles and it tastes fantastic! Keep up the great work lads,I'm happy to buy these tasty tuna off you by the bucket!

+Jeremiah Giles> Our fishermens back in the early dasys before you and I were born. The abundant of "Aku", "Ahi" & "Mahimahi" were caught by these what we call "Aku Boats" (SanPan Boats) that were flat-bottom and use bait fishes to lure the bigger fishes up to the surface. Our bait fish are called "Nehu"....
Looks like a nice ship they got there I have to say
awesome job but dangerous
Would love for this to be supported and I agree that sustainability is the best but I cannot see it happening what with the world population growing at such an astronomical rate. The world organisation has made many leaps since this video was made and restriction have been put into place to help with depleting tuna numbers.
