Fly fishing Colorado is something I have had on my mind ever since my first visit to the Rocky Mountains. The South Platter River is known as being one of the most technical fisheries in the world. Although very large fish exist, they are rarely landed. This stems largely from the high amount of fishing pressure from Denver, Colorado. People have even gone as far as to call fishing the South Platte "combat fly fishing" meaning you will always be fighting others for fish. Dallas, my brother, and I decided to fish the South Platte mostly because it was on our way to other areas that we wanted to fish and we knew of the big fish that held in the river. We were very fortunate to have people like Justin (crazypius9 on IG) to help show us at least one spot to increase our odds of hooking up. Luckily we caught a handful of fish, and they were fairly nice fish even for the body of water we were fishing. I hope everyone enjoys this video! The Arkansas River (Day 2 in Colorado) comes out next Friday!

    nice vid. old saying with Deckers-if you can catch fish there-especially at the bridge-you can go anywhere in the world and catch fish. It is one of the most heavily fished bodies of water, and it has only gotten more and more crowded. Way to stay at it and be patient. Nice work

Fair warning though, even though it is the least populated state, if you fish the more famous sections (miracle mile) be prepared for it to be just as pressured as the South Platte. Next year if you guys get the chance take a couple of days to fish Eastern Idaho/ Western Wyoming, The Snake River and all it's branches, Teton river, Warm, Fall, rivers and countless creeks. One word of advice stay away from where everyone goes, much better fishing else where. If time permits look into one day with a guide for stugeon on the Snake, it is an incredible experience. Really?? That's surprising with the fishing pressure! I saw several people using spinning gear and none of them caught anything, of course I wasn't always paying attention. Anyhow thanks for watching!

    And that’s why they call fly fishing at Deckers on the weekends combat fishing. You have to defend your 25 yard stretch of water at all cost. You can’t move up water or down water as another angler will jump your hole.

  • @hardmanfishing

    @hardmanfishing

    Yep! It was my first time ever "combat" fishing but it wasn't as bad as I originally thought it would be. I'd definitely rather not hit it on the weekend though that is for sure.

    Was this Deckers?

  • @franklinfocus
    @franklinfocus3 жыл бұрын

    I went to Deckers AGAIN today for the 3rd time in two weeks at 5am and it was bumbarded with people and tourists. Literally had 4 intertubers float right IN to me, ran in to me with their tubes, even though I had clearly moved away from them, and I had to push them away from me while they were drunk and screaming. A different pack of tubers were LITERALLY leaving trash and cans floating behind them and yelling at everyone trying to fish. Tons of kids in the water without life vests or any kind of safety equipment. A group of guys were bragging about how they didn’t have fishing liscences to other group of fishers. Trash everywhere in the bushes and water. Many people taking illegal fish because they were undersized. This river is a joke. No one around to monitor anything and I’m honestly disgusted that the people that are supposed to be protecting our forests, ARENT. TRIED to call the forest rangers 3 times and they didn’t even answer the phones. Maybe if people did their jobs we could have somewhere nice to go fishing, but Deckers is checked off my list as of today. #WelcomeToColorado

    I was always under the impression that a cutthroat and a cut bow are impossible to tell apart by sight. How do you know the difference?

  • @hardmanfishing

    @hardmanfishing

    3 жыл бұрын

    Cutthroat and cuttbows are easy to tell the difference. Cuttbows are just rainbow trout but with the "cutt" under their gills. Cutthroat are usually more colorful and have a lot less spots. It is more difficult to tell the difference between a cuttbow and a rainbow in my opinion.
