TRANSCRIPT
Good morning guys, today we are here in Curubande in the Guanacaste province, we're going to check out some of the amazing waterfalls and river pools they have so let's go.
Curubande is a small district near Liberia, the capital city of Guanacaste and it has gotten very popular in the last couple years for hiking, nature, waterfalls and rivers. For our day trip, we set off into the tropical dry forest with our two dogs, walking alongside the river called Rio Blanco.
One of the most unique features of the rivers here in Curubande is that you can see rivers with this beautiful light blue color which comes from the sulfur in the water because all these rivers come from the Rincon de la Vieja volcano.
For our hike, we had to go with a guide who actually did more than just show us the way, he shared stories and legends about Curubande and the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.
Something that amazed me the whole time was that we were walking in between two amazing canyons.
Here we are the Canon de la Lechuza. All of this formation here, this is volcanic rock and you can see it has this shape and it was formed from all the lava of the last eruption of the volcano.
This hike turned out to be quite an adventure as we climbed through canyons and up steep hills and rocks. And then finally, our guide said it was time to go swimming.
Vamos, are you ready? Let's go swimming. Doggos are ready they have all their lifejackets.
We had reached one of the bluest parts of the Rio Blanco so we had to stop for a swim in the cool and refreshing water.
After our swim, we continued on for a little bit and then our guide said we were at the last part to our destination, the La Leona waterfall. To get to the waterfall, we had to swim through the canyon and into the cave and in the cave, we would finally see the waterfall.
The waterfall was incredible, especially during the moment as you approach the cave and hear the roar of the water. However, the entire journey to get there was the highlight for me. We had so much fun swimming with our dogs, learning about the canyons, caves and wildlife that roam around the river and exploring all other little nooks and crannies of the Rio Blanco.
So those were the beautiful waterfalls and pools of the Rio Claro river. I hope you guys enjoyed watching this video and for all the information on how to experience this beautiful place, click on the links in the description below. Thanks for watching.

Great video. I have a question that maybe you or someone can answer. I have a friend with a mobility issue. She can walk, but cannot do any climbing. I heard that there is an optional shortcut to the waterfall. My plan is the rest of us will do the canyon hike and she can meet us at the waterfall. Is that possible?

Yes there is a straight path to the waterfall that doesn't require climbing but if she wants to actually see the waterfall, she does need to swim so please take that into consideration if she has mobility issues. They will give her a life jacket but she must be strong enough to pull herself and hoist herself up

Is it necessary to bring anything more than a water bottle , small towel, and waterproof phone case (for photos). Are there lockers to keep any additional things you may bring along if you don’t have a car? (Snacks, change of clothes, etc) Thanks!

How do you keep your stuff dry? I’m not sure I understand what a waterproof backpack is. Also what kind of shoes did you wear?

We brought a waterproof backpack (a backpack that is waterproof) and the park also had dry bags (but unfortunately theirs were not 100% waterproof). A dry bag is cheaper than a waterproof backpack in case you don't have one and need to buy one. I wore closed toed hiking sandals (KEEN) specifically.

Yes it was in a river, not the ocean...but the river has other minerals from the volcano so not sure if that means it's 100% freshwater
