    The easier analogy for beginners in terms of how to use/treat controls is to relate to a supermarket shopping cart. The movements are identical. Left forward, right back, cart turns right, etc.

    Great content, can I just ask before you lock off the wheel, are the rudders aligned straight? I'm assuming they are but you don't say so.

  • @jfjfergz8686
    @jfjfergz86862 жыл бұрын

    Fantastic video! At what point after leaving the dock do you unlock the wheel and use it for steering? Do you just use the two engines the entire way out of the marina? Same question when arriving - at what point do you decide to lock the wheel and steer with the engines?

  • @TMGYachts

    @TMGYachts

    2 жыл бұрын

    Great question. The answer is definitely different for everyone and can depend on how busy the mooring field is. Generally, as soon as you are off the dock and you have positioned the vessel in the direction you wish to go then unlock the wheel. Visa versa when you are coming back in, lock the wheel and then get into position for docking using just the two engines.

    Another great video. The biggest challenge that I have is berthing in strong wind/current. Also a video on anchoring using shore lines would be useful. Have you got plans to release a video on either of these?

  • @TMGYachts

    @TMGYachts

    Hi Miles, we have a lot of content lined up but when the conditions are right we will give this a go. Our biggest concern in strong winds is that the drone won't work out so it may be hard to explain.

    Nice video for beginners, the next step is to make a video using the throttles together with the steering.

  • @TMGYachts

    @TMGYachts

    Жыл бұрын

    As mentioned in this video when docking at low speeds it is always recommended to remove the steering from the mix as you will always get more manoeuvrability on a cat from throttles alone.

  • @TMGYachts

    @TMGYachts

    Hi Mario, you do use the wheel a lot of the time (outside of docking) just not at low speeds in these manoeuvres. The engines alone are far more effective and responsive in these instances.

    Are you using feathering props providing more or less equal thrust in forward and reverse or can you match the revs even with fixed props without having more forward than backward thrust? Thx 👍

  • @JoeFox_TMGYachts

    @JoeFox_TMGYachts

    Hi There, On this boat, we have folding props. Thrust is close to the same when comparing folding and fix props and I find that the benefits of folding props in relation to speed when sailing far outweigh any negatives.

    Why did you keep changing clothes??? jk Another way I have had a twin screw manuever explained, it's like pushing a cart in a store. If you push your right forward and pull back on your left the the front of the cart will go left, and vice versa.

    No, we will presume that we do not have a Bow Thruster and only one screw. Why would you keep the stern tied when it is the only place you have any control?? Use the bow or the midships (Spring) cleat. Pull forward, pivot on the rope and the stern steps away from the dock. Back away and then go on your way.

    This catamaran doesn't have thrusters. However due to the fact that there are two engines the throttles are used to spin the boat.
