CATAMARAN BUILD - 48 Hours In & We're THIS Far! (MJ Sailing - Ep 179)

We're only 48 hours into having the first set of components for our catamaran, and she's already starting to come together and look like a boat!
Follow along as we work tirelessly to get all the components unloaded from the container - and fail miserably at our time allowance. But honestly, that part soon matters less and less to us because we have a great group of people working their butts off to make sure every piece is taken off carefully and doesn't receive any damage.
36 hours later, we gather a few of them back to put the main pieces of the hull together while we still have access to the telehandler. And once we snap those few pieces together - Voilà she's already looking like a boat!!
We hope you enjoy!
Much love from Annapolis!

You'll be amazed how long the "starts looking like a boat, ain't it?" phase will last before the "lookalike" will be past for the last time, with a "looks like a boat _on the outside at least_ " phase in between. They're brave to take on that task, prefab or not. I'm looking forward for sure.

Getting stuff out of the container and into the tent was a combination of exciting and stressful. Having great friends (and the right equipment) made all the difference. Having the tent for the build is immeasurably helpful. So satisfying to see so much of the build appearing to happen so fast. That'll give an adrenaline boost that will be necessary to carry through the small details for the next period of the build. Now you can just sleep in the two outboard hull sections! So fun though!!!

When I first saw the opening of the container I was worried. It looked like all the parts had been carelessly put in there, and hope for the best for the journey. But clearly I misjudged the factory. They had been skilfully and safely mounted, and well protected for the journey. Well, that's a start. Come on. Chop chop. I want to see the finish. Are we nearly there yet???? Good luck on your project.

Awesome work guys, however not without an unhealthy amount of risk during the demobilizing from the container. If you ever have to repeat such a situation, arrange for a 40 foot open top container where everything can be safely removed in a quick fashion with a crane. I know they are a bit more expensive in regards to shipping costs but certainly a benefit in reducing risks of fatalities and or damage to hull sections. Another benefit if possible is to arrange a single jib section lifting for the telehandler. So much more control during lifts.
