Chartered one as a bare boat with 4 friends to the Channel Islands near Santa Barbara. Winds are always dependable and this boat showed her metal. She sailed beautifully in many wind conditions. Comfort below was great. What a boat!
TY Ian! watching your vids has taught me a lot about options for my next boat. You will be my contact in Cali.
The Catalina 400 MKII is well built and easy to maintain. It sails very well and is setup to support short handed crews such as a cruising couple. I highly recommend.

@Hare Brahs I am a 10 year owner of one of these Catalina 400 and am very pleased with it's all round performance.
You make the best video reviews...
The boat of my dreams. I love it.
Love this boat. Perfect
Very, very nice boat.
Centerline King Birth Babyyy. I like it. Seperate shower. Nice boat!
Love the aft master cabin
Thats nice
I’ve never seen a Catalina with the kitchen on starboard. Other when it run up the whole side . My buddy just sold his 2000 470 in Annapolis for 220
Enjoyed the video. You should record these videos at 60 frames per second due to the constant moving around of the camera.
Expensive @160 but a Nice looking boat
Price range?
😍😍😍😍
I would love to have a dollar for every time this guy says “again”
You don’t put asking price nor basic specifications.
Can you consider that as a bluewater sailboat? I mean sail from Cali to south pacific safely.

Probably not in the traditional parameters which have long defined 'blue water cruisers' but it could very comfortably do it for sure, if the boat is well prepared, has sufficient tankage (really important) a hull designed to carry all that extra weight, the correct type of hull shape and configuration are not as critical as people make out, all have pros and cons. More production bolt on fin keel/spade rudder boats have done ocean crossings by a stretch than traditional blue water full keel displacement boats. It's really all about your boat preparation and not so much the boat. For me personally I would consider an integral/encapsulated keel and skeg hung rudder as minimum requirements for an offshore boat, also a heavy boat with big tankage is preferable.

It will after time stress the boats structure. If constantly put in 50 mile an hour winds and 20 foot swell . It’s not a Swan 57 or Tayana 55 . But those boats after time will show their weakness in areas of structure to. I haven’t heard of to many people complain about the Catalina twisting . I know where a Morgan 38 is for 5 grand that needs a ton of work . She has a nice shape. Ian have you ever sailed a Amel sharki
That is a fantastic layout for a 40'. That aft centerline berth with full beam stateroom and head is great, but I do wonder about the size and depth of cockpit and lazarette storage for fenders, docking lines etc. etc. etc. as well as accessibility to the main steerage gear, I'm presuming quadrant, cable and pulley system?? All round a very well designed, maintained and presented vessel. I must be honest though, at 40' this boat does not need the amount of hatches it has, that's a significant amount of maintenance and potential leak areas, I have absolutely no clue as to the construction of the deck and coachtop but I'm presuming it would be cored so there is always that concern.

Everything fine except for those tiny miniscule toilets. Anyone can barely fit in there. It was a joke
I have never seen somebody comment on how amazing the upholstery is, when it's in such poor condition. This is absolutely horrendous upholstery and it really makes me realize that yacht brokers are scum. Despicable.
