My neighbor's cat was an outdoor cat (she claimed). After my cat died I let her in to visit and she became an indoor cat at my house during the day and I sent her home after sunset. So she was an indoor cat at my house during the day. She sometimes spent the night. She died 4 months ago so I don't have a cat now.

@@micheledonahoe8092 I'd rather "adopt" a neighbor's outdoor cat. Both of these cats had thyroid disease and were taking meds. That's the only reason I didn't "kidnap" my neighbor's cat. She would have gladly lived with me but I didn't want to pay for her meds. Sometimes she refused to go home and sat on my steps (I put her out at sunset) for 2 1/2 hrs in the dark. Most times she eventually went home. When she needed to go to the bathroom she went to the door and meowed so I let her out. On super cold days, rainy days, or snowy days she did her business and came right back in. Perfect cat. I don't want to deal with kitty litter or vet bills again until I'm old and can't get out. I have an extra $200 per month due to no cat care (plus the $1000 spent on vet bills during her illness). Since I live on social security money was really tight when my cat was ill (the last 16 months of her life - she lived to be almost 20 yo). I couldn't take a vacation because no one would babysit her while I was gone. I'm enjoying my freedom and extra cash for now.

That is exactly how a similar situation developed with us. I knew they didn't care about him when one day I found him at our back door bleeding from a fight. Called the 'owners' they were only looking after him for their son interstate. The mother came to take him 'home', though he knew where to go when he was injured, when next I spoke with her and asked what the vet treatment was, she told me she didn't take him to a vet. Another day and at this point we weren't feeding him or letting him in our house, he was just using our backyard as a resting spot to chill during the day because there was no one to bother him here, no dogs, etc, the woman turned up almost screaming, "Where's my cat?" We explained we had no intention of taking him. She took him off in a huff and a few days later he came back and never heard from her again. He just spent more time here. Ultimately we fed him and he slept with us, but outside as we weren't sure what to do. But the first winter, we weren't going to let him sleep out in the cold, even under our veranda. He slept every day on my mum's bed. We made one mistake. We should have set some boundaries as he was a wanderer and patrolled at night before he came to us at about 10 pm. He had a habit of never getting out of the way and though we lived in a cul-de-sac, his patrol took in a large area with 2 busy roads. He had a habit of never getting out of the way of things. If you walked and he was in front of you, you had to step around him, if we drove off anywhere, he would flop in front of our car and you had to pick him up and put him on the sidewalk. He was with us for 4 years until one day we got 'that' call from the woman - one I knew would come and dreaded. As we didn't remove his collar or name tag she got the call and she had the decency to let us know our sweet boy had been killed by a car on the busy road no doubt during his nightly patrol. We had doubts about taking him in permanently as though they weren't that concerned about him, we never kept him in against his wishes and he would come and go as he pleased. But we knew this was coming. 10 years later and we still shed a tear for him.

Soo upset. They all neutered and spayed once they arrive here. I wish we had a friendly neighbourhood who loves God's creatures. Bless you all.💖😹😺

My street of about 25 houses, each had a daily visit by large older Tuxedo cat. Every neighbor seemed to have given him a name they chose. He was known to some as Mr. Jimmy, Hemp, Mr. Tuxedo, or Tux, and Big daddy. Every morning he would climb the front steps, of each house, which were rented to mostly grad students, and some older original home owners. Tux would hang out for about 10 minutes, on their front porches. Fairly often a renter would come out and feed him. Tux got snacks and bowls of food, waiting for him. He we so methodical,....going up each walkway, climbing the steps, and leaving the same way he came. Many of the houses are so close to each other, YOU'D THINK THE CAT COULD JUST JUMP, from one porch , to the next. Not this cat,....he'd walk up and down each set of steps.

I have a neighbour a few doors up, and their cat is trying to move in with me. I don't feed her, I don't even give her treats. I'm not even exaggerating. She sleeps outside my backdoor, and sometimes doesn't go home for food. She skipped her tea and then her breakfast once, and the owner came round and accused me of feeding her! All I did was make a fuss of her, and that's all.

Obviously he was missing something and this neighbour had. We had four other dogs and the neighbour had 1 other and 12 hunting hounds. I don’t mind as he is very happy there and follows the person everywhere.

@@icedbass hello, greetings from the U.S. I'm so sorry to hear of that neighbor. I'm unfamiliar with the laws in France, but I hope they are like ours. If it's illegal to put things up to harm animals, I would ask the police dept. Can you put cameras up to watch him? Has other neighbors had problems with him too? Maybe get together to ask a lawyer. I feel terrible for you, and of course the animals too. It hurts me that people can be so cruel. I would be afraid that he might put poison out or worse. We had a neighbor who was like your neighbor. He was awful. When we moved, we took a couple of the strays with us. Your English is very good by the way. I wish you the very best. If I can help with advice ,please let me know. Some cats, perhaps those who have had only good experiences with humans, really like strangers. My cat was fascinating by a repairman. My neighbors' cat would visit and enjoyed going on walks -- once he brought his younger "siblings" with him (or they followed him) and they seemed to be thrilled at the novelty of a different apartment.
