In a time when heavy rock was the standard, it took a lot of talent to walk on stage with an acoustic guitar and have everyone in the palm of your hand withing minutes.

Side-by-side with the rock in the late 60's and 70's was the whole singer-songwriter genre (which I was really into). Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Carole King, John Denver, Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Kris Kristiofferson, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt (although she did not write songs), JD Souther, and on and on. Yes, all they needed was a microphone and guitar or piano. Backing bands were typically just a couple of people. No flash, just great singers and musicians playing great music.

My mom loved it and she passed away so I think of her🥰. Cat Stevens actually did a rendition of Morning Has Broken which was a traditional hymn. It’s excellent & was originally written around the 30’s, I believe.

The song was in "Harold and Maude", however, according to Cat Stevens it uses chords and progressions that are very commonly used in Spanish music, so it might be that that makes it seem familiar. Also, it's been covered multiple times, every body from Jimmy Cliff and Bette Midler to James Blunt and Garth Brooks and Bastille.

In my high school years (1970) if you played a guitar (acoustic) you had to be able to play a lot of Cat Steven's music. Him, Jim Croce, early Eagles all kept me very busy learning new songs and styles (and let's not forget Janis Ian and her great songs). Cat Stevens has had a very interesting life, but a great voice and musical style. You have heard this song most recently in a commercial.

He is a great songwriter/singer and has several you might enjoy. My personal favorite is "Father and Son" and "Where Will the Children Play" is a second emotional song. One of the best might be "Morning Has Broken." It is transformative and fills me with gratitude.

Ohh, you changed your outro music. Hadn't seen one of your vids in a while and when it came to the end I was looking forward to the music. Ah well. I love this song, mainly for how the guitar is so closely recorded - all that great picking - and of course the lyrics. I only heard it first about 10 years ago, and I don't remember where or why, but I had a friend/fellow student/colleague who is quite spiritual and she would sign off emails with "take good care." I'd never seen/heard it phrased that way, with "good" in there. So every time I hear it now, I think of her. (The phrase and the song...) BTW, I'm glad you did the studio audio with whatever fan vid - it's so much clearer and better than some of the live performances you could find.

Cat Stevens, a British singer-songwriter, absolutely conquered the musical world in the late 70',s and then while he was on top, promptly walked away from all of it. He converted to Islam and adopted the name Yusaf Islam, auctioning all of his guitars off for charity. And then he followed his faith and did not return to music again until almost 30 years later in 2006. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

The song "Wild World" has been in several movies and television shows. It's hard to pinpoint the one you would know it from. It's like the song "What A Wonderful World" by Louie Armstrong, or Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama," or like how most movies depicting the Vietnam War will have at least one song by Creedence Clearwater Revival on the soundtrack.

I can't find it anywhere, but I seem to remember this song being used in a cartoon movie for kids. If not "Finding Nemo" or "Shark Tale" then some other underwater move like them. One character starts singing the song in Cat Stevens style, and a rasta looking octopus says, "No, not like that" and starts to sing it reggae, Jimmy Cliff style. I've never tried alcohol or drugs, so I don't think I hallucinated it, but I can't find it at all. It could be some other song that had a reggae cover, but in my (suspect at my age) memory, it was this one. Either way, go listen to the Jimmy Cliff version. That is probably the one you are familiar with. I could easily tell from your face that you KNEW this song, but hadn't heard THIS song.

Harold and Maude was the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard this song tonight. I must have watched the movie at least ten times and enjoyed it every time. I need to find that movie and watch it again, definitely a classic.

One of my favorites of his! "Morning has Broken" is a hymn from 1931 that he made famous. It is beautiful. We sang it in choir in school. Others that I like of his are "The First Cut is the Deepest", "Lady D'Arbanville", "Oh Very Young", and the whole Numbers album (it is a theme album that needs to be played straight through).

Modern Renaissance Man I was having problems with my back. I sit at a computer all day and really want to do my own stuff on my laptop at night but after all that sitting there was just no way. I finally got a really good chair and a new bed. Got knee injections this week to help with that. So getting back to watching videos and doing other things on the computer. Unfortunately then staying up too late at night! I hope all has been well with you.

How many bedsits in 70s London didn't have their Dansette record player and a well-worn copy of Cat's Tea For The Tillerman or Teaser and the Firecat, or both? Not to mention albums by Bowie, Cream, the Beatles....Happy days!

While I don't know the story of the song, I think of it as a May, December relationship. At first, the girl thinks he's worldly and wise, and she makes him feel young again... but after a while, it becomes a trap, because making mistakes is part of becoming who you are. And if every time you are about to make a mistake you have an older person saying, don't do that, I know from experience, then you will never grow or challenge yourself. So even though there is still love, they both know the relationship is over, now the guy is giving her one last piece of advice before she goes out into the world on her own.

I've always thought "Katmandu" was one of his best. There is so much wonderful instrumentation to go with his voice. It's on the Mona Bone Jakon album.
