Cat Diesel Powered 1959 Oldsmobile

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Yes folks you read that correctly!! This video features a 1959 Oldsmobile super 88 with a Cat 3208 Diesel engine in it, among a list of other modifications that were made to the car as well. Pretty sure this is one of a kind, rare 1 of 1. Pretty extraordinary what Mr. Dimas was able to create and bring to life. I for one cant wait to see it back on the road and driving again. Ill definitely make sure to get video of it when that happens. If you'd like to see the car it now lives at the Sukanen Ship and Pioneer village South of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, thanks to the generosity of the family and them donating it to the museum to be kept alive as some well know local history.
Thanks for watching, see you on the next one. Don't forget I am Ironman "3208" haha.

That’s awesome I love it we had a dump truck with that engine it never felt like it had enough power always wished it had a turbo 😂but it always started and went to work no matter how long it sat between jobs on the farm lol thanks for sharing I’m jealous of all the awesome stuff you get to mess with

In the '80s a local guy had a mid '70s GMC 1 ton pickup with a 3208 stuffed in it. At the time, it was when factory diesel PUs were just starting to come out.

We had just talked about this car and it's whereabouts at the Fathers Day Show in Moose Jaw this spring. I had not seen the car around for years in Moose Jaw but knew Mr Dimas ad passed away. The last time I saw the car would have been in the very late 90's or mid 2000's when we had in the shop at Kramer doing some service work on it. Glad it's being restored and driven again. Thanks for sharing......Mike

Further improvement to the sound would be an MTU MB 873 out of a Leopard 2, but I think the Cat diesel fits a bit more easily 😅

A super T-10 is a 4 speed manual transmission used in muscle cars. It isn’t an overdrive as far as I know. Is there an Allison somehow compounded to the t-10? Also most Allison’s from that era weren’t overdrive either. I’m interested and confused! I saw that car sitting in a driveway in the south end of Regina for several years (2020ish).

Not sure what to tell you, that's what the documentation says its got and what I was told. Its got an Allison Automatic shifter in the cab. Its not my car and I never rolled underneath to look at the trans.

Thanks for the reply - certainly an interesting vehicle! I have questions about how air brakes would work on 3/4 running gear as well. I will have to go to the museum and see it for myself some day. I enjoy your videos. I recall watching one where you were at Spy Hill - I grew up on a farm near Moosomin, it’s cool to see small Sask towns on KZread! Also - $14k for a new 3208 in 1982! That would have been the price of a new car back then.
