CASTRO STREET WALKING TOUR - SAN FRANCISCO

While visiting San Francisco we took a walk on the wild side and toured the Castro, one of California's first gay communities. Things here are not nearly as "wild" as they once were, but still interesting to visit. Join me and William as we take in the sights and sounds of an amazing San Francisco community.
The Castro District, commonly referred to as the Castro, is a neighborhood in Eureka Valley in San Francisco. The Castro was one of the first gay neighborhoods in the United States. Having transformed from a working-class neighborhood through the 1960s and 1970s, the Castro remains one of the most prominent symbols of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) activism and events in the world.

We would like to invite you to watch our adventures as we explore hiking trails around California, and the occasional historical sites. This is a lighthearted channel, and we are by no means documentarians, historians or professional presenters. We are recording our life experiences, and thought this might be a good format to share with other like-minded people. If you enjoyed our videos, please hit the like button, or even consider subscribing to our channel, but most of all, thank you for stopping by.

Good to see this footage.. I visited CASTRO In early 80s from LONDON just before HIV/AIDS devastated the community. It was the BEST of times and the WORST of times.. ❤

mjc5509, I totally get what you're saying because I lived through the HIV/AIDS crisis and fortunately got through it unscathed. I remember being tested in the mid-80s and was terrified and in tears to get the result, which in those days, you had to wait two whole weeks. Are you still living in London? Thanks for watching our video...much appreciated!

OMG, 50 yearslater, the streetcars look the same! And the Castro Theater is still the landmark.

Yep, and it is still primarily a gay area although there has been some gentrification in recent years. I mean, that's a good thing because everyone should get along just fine.😀

How cool is that...a fellow Canadian! I've been living in Los Angeles since 1985. I have been to Ottawa several times in the past. Born in Montreal, lived in Toronto for 10 years and been in LA ever since.
