Casting Coasters with Shiny Powders! - Prop: Live from the Shop

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

On this live stream, Britt digs up the old shield coaster molds Bill made. Glow-in-the-dark, metal, and glitter powders are used to cast three unique coasters!
For the sparkles, the live chat suggested I should try not dusting the mold. That way, the transparent mixture would be a little more noticeable, since the top wouldn’t be solid sparkles. I’ll have to try this!
I ended up sealing all the coasters with a few layers of clear coat. This does reduce the awesome look of cold casted metal. Normally, I’d keep the metal powder finish with a Metalizer Lacquer, but I wanted the coaster to be protected from lots of use.

I'm casting a larger sword and I want to tint it translucent blue as well as add the glow powder just like you did (so this video came at a perfect time). Is there a specific ratio or formula when adding the glow powder and tint to the urethane?

little tip: when using smooth cast 325. if your mixing tints/pigments add the pigment to part b but do not mix until you combine with part a. This will get you less bubbling in your casting without using a pressue tank.

I know the directions say to mix the pigment with part b completely before combining with part A. I just found with less mixing of individual parts that i would get better castings and less bubbles. I make custom toys.

Could you tell me how much the Onyx coaster weighs? (to the tenths of a gram). Would help with determining whether it would be cost effective to produce my own coaster sculpts for sale using that material. Thanks!
