Just lost pla cast zombie hands only and all imperfections are just part of the hand! Perfect cover.

I was glad to see you use joint compound. I've been wondering how it would hold up. Thanks for showing that

swdweeb You bet! I’ve had much better results with it using this technique. For whatever reason this one didn’t turn out all that nice.

Could you have filled the cavity inside with the sodium silicate sand as a core? Would it have helped or just been an unneccessary step?

Cool, that worked better than I expected it to. And where it didn't come out perfect, it seemed to actually enhance the casting due to its decaying nature anyhow. 😀

Tobho Mott It’s definitely an appropriate finish for a decaying hand. Thanks for watching!

About a minute in, I was thinking to myself, "I wonder if I could use this in conjunction with sodium silicate sand." Look no further, you immediately answered that question! Thanks for this video!

I see you use sodium silicate to hold the sand rigid, but you didn't use any CO2. How long does it take for the sand to become rigid?

So when I tried loss pla casting in the past I tried to melt the plastic out before pouring the aluminum. Your telling me the aluminum will melt the plastic and get it out fast enough to not gum up the mold? I'm going to have to try again. Your joint compound is in a jar. Did you mix it with water or something?

  • @robinson-foundry

It only works with single layer walls and only for certain shapes. Venting is crucial. If it’s not properly vented it could pop. I dint believe I mixed the joint compound with water. It’s been a while since I did this. Good luck!
