This is my most complex but easily my best bronze to date. I'm really happy with how it turned out. Just a few years ago I build my homemade foundry furnace. and started casting ingots. Now I'm making sculptures like this in my garage. I've come a long way.

    To fill in bubbles and defect in my wax figure, I use a homemade sticky moldable wax made from combining paraffin wax and "wax ring" wax from a plumbing supply store (very soft and stick wax). Experiment with ratios until you have a consistency that works well for you, but start around 1 to 1, melted together, adding more paraffin to make it harder or ring wax to make it softer and stickier.

    Your videos are great. One thing that might be useful to you; When we were sealing patinated bronzes in the art foundry I used to manage, we just heated the bronze and sealed it with bee's wax. The wax goes into the pores, smells nice, and polishes up lovely. Great work, man.

    The Baroque period used a lot of animals that morph into architectural elements. Maybe you could try something like that. I’m getting ready to start a new job at a bronze clock bell foundry. Although my focus will be on sales, I still love learning about the casting process. I hope to also have the opportunity to use my art training and try my hand at some casting too.

    Pls take my advice: mix your plaster with detergent, so the plaster mould will be porous enough to allow any gas to escape while pouring. This way, you will not need the vacuum casting chamber. You may wonder about the bubbles on the wax because of the bubble caused by mixing detergent with plaster and water. However, to eliminate any possible bubble on the wax, you can brush some plaster on your wax model. Brushing the plaster leaves no bubbles behind. A porous mould not only obviates the need for vaccm casting but also dramatically reduces the time needed for wax burn out. P.S: I have five years of experience in lost wax casting.

  • @mircea277

    @mircea277

    Жыл бұрын

    interesting ... so first cover the wax model in a "milk" of plature to avoid the bubles formation , this works , it's verified and then the detergent mixed plasture with the bubles will work absorbing the gases without making bubles on the model , right ?

  • @rezaemami1

    @rezaemami1

    Жыл бұрын

    @mircea277 you need to add some detergent powder to create lots of bubbles in the plaster mixture, so you won't need to vacuum the mold when pouring the metal. In fact, these bubbles add enough porosity to your investment slurry to allow gasses escape and prevent misrun. The method used in these ideas is good as long as the sculpture is not big. If big, you cannot take it out of the kiln hot. Neither can you vacuum the plaster mold when you pour the metal. So, use my method. Make your plaster mold porous enough. Then, you won't even have to rush and pour metal into a hot mold

Suspendslurry in not normally used with vacuu casting due to having no way to seal the casting. But I think I may have a solution?? We'll have to see...

  • @lundgrenbronzestudios

    Yeah I don’t think you could use suspenda slurry. It has to have enough porosity to let air through but not the metal. Suspenda slurry has no porosity so any way the air will flow through the metal will flow through also.

    The hollowness of the parts in this concept, with the subsequent need for welding, is a nightmare... You really need some 3d-adjustable steel clamps, for retaining the perfect relation of pieces to each other, that are about to get welded together !!! I don´t even understand the importance of those models being hollow... Is it because of the high bronze-price, and total.cost??? I wish you´d tune in the process for technical parts (aluminium), so that the least possible milling, lathe-ing and CNCing is needed in the afterprocess. What about gears, or 2stroke-cylinders? (Patrick Bächler´s channel has some intricate 49cc-cylinder-designs, with up to 9 channels inside the cylinder-walls, and up to 400hp/lt, but he grinds those channels out of already existing cylinders, with all the subsequent compromises, while casting them from zero would have been wiser).
