This is my most complex but easily my best bronze to date. I'm really happy with how it turned out. Just a few years ago I build my homemade foundry furnace. and started casting ingots. Now I'm making sculptures like this in my garage. I've come a long way.

Your videos definitely show us WHY those bronze sculptures are a thousand dollars. Very beautiful! I'm looking forward to more videos!
Just wow so talented you should be proud
You’re pretty cute. I have been a sculptor for many years and worked in a studio situated on the upper floor of a foundry where we make all sizes and complexities of bronze statuary and still I find your videos charming.

Wow! I had no idea how complex your trade was.. So many crafts involved and the details have got to be brutal to obtain.
He really is a Monarch of the glen now. fantastic work
brother you gotta put a tag on them antlers before your cut em off.. if the game warden sees you, you're gonna be in big trouble. Fantastic videos, thanks much... better than tv any day.
To fill in bubbles and defect in my wax figure, I use a homemade sticky moldable wax made from combining paraffin wax and "wax ring" wax from a plumbing supply store (very soft and stick wax). Experiment with ratios until you have a consistency that works well for you, but start around 1 to 1, melted together, adding more paraffin to make it harder or ring wax to make it softer and stickier.
Your videos are great. One thing that might be useful to you; When we were sealing patinated bronzes in the art foundry I used to manage, we just heated the bronze and sealed it with bee's wax. The wax goes into the pores, smells nice, and polishes up lovely. Great work, man.
I love your work. I have some bronze pieces that my great-great grandfather made in the 1800s that remind me of your fine creations. If the comments allowed attaching files, I would show you. You're adorable too.
Thanks man for showing us your beautiful work this is painstaking jewelry work I hope your skills will be better and better every time you do your projects !
Your level of patience and attention to detail is well beyond mine! Great work!
Dude, that turned out great! Beautiful work, man. You should be proud
Yes indeed very nice
rinse the wax with isopropyl just before you pour the plaster. It will help prevent bubbles by breaking the surface tension and keeps the bubbles from sticking to the piece. 😉

Outstanding
That Elk is SUPERB!
I've enjoyed watching two of your videos now. Very interesting and down to earth. As a note of safety, if it hasn't been mentioned anywhere else in the comments, is to wear thin leather gloves and a long-sleeved shirt while tig welding to shield your skin from an instant sunburn, lol. (Coming from many years of welding background, welding is not friendly to the human body).
Fenomenal

for thin metal, try using heat sinks. aluminum works great , keeps it from melting away while still welding it. awesome videos. very fun to watch!

The Baroque period used a lot of animals that morph into architectural elements. Maybe you could try something like that. I’m getting ready to start a new job at a bronze clock bell foundry. Although my focus will be on sales, I still love learning about the casting process. I hope to also have the opportunity to use my art training and try my hand at some casting too.
I know that expression at about 6:22 all too well (and not just with my casting). The final product was certainly worthy of the epic music at the end.
Great piece of art mate. I would love to be able to produce somethin like that. Thanks for sharing your journey. ☺
Amazing 👍
Pls take my advice: mix your plaster with detergent, so the plaster mould will be porous enough to allow any gas to escape while pouring. This way, you will not need the vacuum casting chamber. You may wonder about the bubbles on the wax because of the bubble caused by mixing detergent with plaster and water. However, to eliminate any possible bubble on the wax, you can brush some plaster on your wax model. Brushing the plaster leaves no bubbles behind. A porous mould not only obviates the need for vaccm casting but also dramatically reduces the time needed for wax burn out. P.S: I have five years of experience in lost wax casting.

interesting ... so first cover the wax model in a "milk" of plature to avoid the bubles formation , this works , it's verified and then the detergent mixed plasture with the bubles will work absorbing the gases without making bubles on the model , right ?

What kind of detergent? Liquid and mix to add bubbles, dry and allow for some cavities? A little more detail on this technique would be very appreciated!

What's the ratio Detergent/plaster/water? What kind of detergent?
@rezaemami1
Жыл бұрын
@mircea277 you need to add some detergent powder to create lots of bubbles in the plaster mixture, so you won't need to vacuum the mold when pouring the metal. In fact, these bubbles add enough porosity to your investment slurry to allow gasses escape and prevent misrun. The method used in these ideas is good as long as the sculpture is not big. If big, you cannot take it out of the kiln hot. Neither can you vacuum the plaster mold when you pour the metal. So, use my method. Make your plaster mold porous enough. Then, you won't even have to rush and pour metal into a hot mold

Well impressed how you hid the holes and blended those feet in. Would it be easier to use a piece copper heating pipe, sharp edged, to cut a hole for the investment. Then the plug would be a perfect fit for the repair? You know like a plug cutter …..just wondering. Powerful piece that, I liked the physio details, like that muscle on the back right leg, anatomical detail like that separates the men from the boys imo.
Would love to see you do a big cat. Even if it has to be a North American animal, name a mountain lion

Hi there I really like your channel I really like how you make the sculptures of any animals you did in the past videos I was hoping that if you can do a clay dinosaur sculpture a velociraptor The animal itself not the claws like you did before an animal sculpture of a velociraptor out of clay with super Sculpey Second you can do the molds and after that you can do is make it into a bronze hopefully whenever you get the chance to make a velociraptor out of bronze if you can do that you can do it out of any animal turn it to bronze Love your channel by the way

Very nice piece brother... I did get a vacuum chamber made and it turned out fairly good. Now I'm making a bigger one 14"x24" stainless tubing! Making some bigger parts using the suspendslurry. Suspendslurry in not normally used with vacuu casting due to having no way to seal the casting. But I think I may have a solution?? We'll have to see...
@lundgrenbronzestudios
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I don’t think you could use suspenda slurry. It has to have enough porosity to let air through but not the metal. Suspenda slurry has no porosity so any way the air will flow through the metal will flow through also.

I sometimes make tin bronze or aluminum bronze, I’ve even tried making my own silicon bronze. But for pieces like this I buy it so I know it’s properly made. For this type of casting I always use silicon bronze.

What I don't understand is why you didn't attached the horns to the wax before casting it. I understand that you would have had to add tunnels to let the air escape, but... wouldn't it be easier to clean the tips of the horns rather than having to attach them to the main body (which was a complex task as shown in the video)?

@@lundgrenbronzestudios Your clay sculpture of this elk is why I started watching the channel. It is a really natural looking elk, I'm excited to see how it turns out.
The hollowness of the parts in this concept, with the subsequent need for welding, is a nightmare... You really need some 3d-adjustable steel clamps, for retaining the perfect relation of pieces to each other, that are about to get welded together !!! I don´t even understand the importance of those models being hollow... Is it because of the high bronze-price, and total.cost??? I wish you´d tune in the process for technical parts (aluminium), so that the least possible milling, lathe-ing and CNCing is needed in the afterprocess. What about gears, or 2stroke-cylinders? (Patrick Bächler´s channel has some intricate 49cc-cylinder-designs, with up to 9 channels inside the cylinder-walls, and up to 400hp/lt, but he grinds those channels out of already existing cylinders, with all the subsequent compromises, while casting them from zero would have been wiser).

Nearly every bronze sculpture you see will be cast hollow. Mainly due to metal shrinkage. Hollow casting prevents many issues that are encountered with irregular shaped sculptures.
