That is unfortunate. I feel bad for you.
The final demo is brilliant ! You deserve to become famous.
22:35 the classic VL-1 "filter sweep" technique evidently works well on the VL-5 too...
What can I tell you that I haven't said already? Brilliant, my far-away friend (if I may)! This series is as about as concise as any keyboarder collector could ask for and twice as entertaining to boot! You're a constant source of inspiration and I have to say that although I am predominantly a guitarist, I find myself more and more at my keyboards these days. And getting better at it! Thanks!

Thanks a lot! It is always a pleasure to read your comments. Nice to hear that my videos also help improve keyboard playing, in one way or another.

@@KeenOnKeys and 8 bit keys are my favorites so far. you both explain things in ways I can understand as a beginner. Been paying guitar for years but on top of getting the gr55 synth system for guitar I want to learn to play actual keys. Your videos are very informative. I started out just wanting an old taken care of fm synth to dink around on but after watching all these videos on youtube of course now I want a full on dx7 or better lol but those are like 500 USD and up on ebay. Which isn't bad don't get me wrong but maybe my best bet is a decent MIDI controller with all the bells and whistles to have access to more sounds. Emulated as they may be...they are cheaper than the hardware lol. Maybe I'll get a broken dx7 to fix? I may go for that plus research a decent keytar to dink around with as long as it has pitch and mod wheels to learn on I'm happy. Anyway love the videos. Keep it up, you have a good style.

@@KeenOnKeys The bagpipe on this sounds very NES like though
I miss my VL-5. Got to love those weird preset names. I also love that you mix the microphone with the aux out. The tacky clicking is definitely part of the sound!
Really nice in-depth video, the sounds of my childhood, I fell in love with synths due to these little boxes. Thank you.
I used to have the VL-1 and my mate had this. How much fun we had as kids with this!!!
This is amazing . the control you have over little keys is amazing !
Playing the muppet show theme just makes me a fan of you for life.
just found your channel. Awesome work, man! Keep on!
WOW!!!! The final BLOW my mind. It`s amazing!!! :)
outro music was awesome
amazing video, editing, and cool song!!!!!
GREAT VIDEO!!! Thanks so lot. You are the man.
Casio will forever be special for me. They made some incredible stuff that were low cost and so much fun. Not to mention their design and manufacture of so many forms and colors in their devices. I still have the PT-50 but lost the ROM card.
I really love this channel and the Muppets theme sealed it. Hope to see a lot more.
liking for that final performance especially!
Oh wow this actually sounds genuinely pretty nice
Amazing! I only know the VL-1, didn't know that there is also a VL-5!
great channel great yt suggestion! subscribed indeed!
Daaaaaamn, playing those microkeys LIKE A BOSS! 😁
That "pretty" preset reminds me of Monster Party for the NES. Sweet keyboard and even sweeter, playing.
God bless these channels on KZread.... #mindblowing
It's quite unusual to see that many bodge wires in a Casia. Either the design wasn't finalised for production, or bugs were discovered during production.
but the question is... can you write your own melodies with qr codes for it? and if you can... how? maybe you could making crazy noise music with it 👀
I always look forward to your videos. Are there any keyboards you have an interest in but haven't reviewed yet?

A lot! Most of the Keyboards of the 80s. And I would have reviewed a lot more until now, if I had a little bit more time for that.
Okay I'm sold. I want one.
These are so so great, I can't believe you don't have more subscribers. I'll do what I can to spread the word! I have a VL-5 by the way, do you want me to scan the manual / music sheets?

Thank you, but I have already found the barcodes for the VL-5 on the internet. Unfortunately these were the only ones I could find.

Does barcode work with midi in signals??
I have a Casio VL-1 with the RadioShack brand label (Realistic Concertmate 200) I love playing with it, and used it for a few years towards a music project I had. I did have a Casio VL-5 briefly, but it didn't work properly.
With all the wires soldered here and there it looked like the PCB design wasn't final.
It's a VL-1 on steroids! It's pretty cool, I don't know how useful it would be for music production but the large jack is a really nice touch. I quite like the polyphony although the keys would probably make anyone's hands cramp up pretty quickly. I really like the sound of it, it's simple and nice.
The last demo is a true banger
Great video! Any chance you have a link to some of that barcode sheet music? I picked up one of these at an estate sale today and want to try that feature.
I used this little guy on my track "Give me the chance" phaqur.bandcamp.com It was used to pitch a vocoder and a VL-10 that was modded with an audio out
This would be good for some old school game console sound tracks. Neat toy.
Just scored one on Marketplace for $25 with barcode reader and all.
This sounds like my c64 transformed into a casio keyboard. Awesome.
9:11 sounds very similar to a Yoshis Island instrument, so cool
22:35 I love Black Moth Super Rainbow
Funny to think the Roland TB303 got the sequencer from the VL-Tone line.
Casio SK-1 is an iconic keyboard

I keep scrubbing through the thumbnails thinking I must have not see it 😢
I downloaded the vl1 app on my phone. ❤
I tried and tried as a kid to get it to read the barcodes but never managed it once 😩 mine must have been broken!
Seeing you scan those barcodes is giving me horrible flashbacks to that janky e-reader for the Gameboy Advance and that barcode battler game. Seems like for a time period there's somthing about japanese tech using barcode scanners that are a pain to use.
What is the blue keyboard at 21:59? Looks tres cool :)

It's the PT-50 and it's actually silver.
The Casio Vl-5 can't play chords but the good is if you play the melody song with the one key plays are 3 keys left you can use with the left hand to play chords!
Hi, are these bar code the same used in mt-70? Do you have some links with these papers to show me? Is it possible to create a owm bar code? Tanks
@KeenOnKeys

They are the same, but the MT-70 can also read chord barcodes. I only have a copy of the VL-5 barcodes, which you can find here: blinovitchlimitationeffect.wordpress.com/2017/05/14/casio-vl-tone-vl-5/

@@KeenOnKeys I don't know the official part name. There's one site selling them for $10 a piece which i think is absurd. I also might need a to solder a new 'female 9v input' and I have no clue where/how to get these parts.

20:24 - wow i cant imaging kids having THAT much patience back in the 80's...or maybe they did and that is an insight into how kids, culture has changed. I bet today kids wouldnt hack all this faffle to scan in melodies lol
I never understood the reason for these devices. Such an overly complicated OS. What is one supposed to do with this device?
It's a shame it has no vibrato, it really makes the difference on the VL-1 I think
