    I wonder why this form factor didn't become more popular with calculators, seems like a great idea to me.

    I've just ordered this model off Ebay and was very curious to see how the calculator works, but there were hardly any videos on it up until today. Thank you for the review!

    must admit i love these clamshell calcs, saves having to use a hard cover and accidentally turning it on in your bag wasting away the batteries, seems logical and sensible design has all but been lost today.

    Yeah I agree. It's funny I forgot to mention Casio's original folding graphing calculator the fx-7500G which I actually made a video on a while back.

    Thanks for the great video - as always. I have this in my collection, and your video motivated me to pick it up and give it a go again! Many things here I wasn’t aware of. Very interesting that there seems to be a place for an SD card on the PCB!

    Awesome! Love it! Didn't know about C.Basic and Reckon! I'm a Casio fan since my school days with the fx-602p and later the fx-7000g (later switched to HP and love all my HP calcs very much). I tried Reckon on my fx-9860GIISD but it seems to be exclusively for the clamshell "Slim" model, right? Because all the keys are weirdly assigned, no operation is possible on a standard keyboard layout like the 9860GII ... It says so nowhere on the website or in the Reckon manual, though ... Strange ... So I guess I'll have to wait a few more days until my fx-.9860g Slim arrives! 🤩

    Small correction: the 2.5mm jack on the side is not for charging, rather it's for serial data communications.

    Great review and thanks for showing the internals. I think the 'power jack' you mentioned, is actually the standard CASIO 3 PIN 3.5mm jack serial COMMS interface just like they have on the 9860GII?

    Why is the long bar type more popular than this clamshell design? I think clamshell is better, because it can have a large screen, and doesn't need a screen protector.

    Hi CC! In which on-calculator language implemented 2+ character variable name length and user defined functions (the last is more important)?! Python is available for older units like 9860gII or CG10/20? Thanks for the answers!

    Hi Csaba. As far as I can tell Casio MicroPython is only currently available on the Casio fx-CG50 and Casio fx-9860gIII. User defined functions are supported on the Classpad II & Casio fx-9860g series (with v2 firmware). Long variable names are supported on the Classpad II - there may be other Casio calculators, I'm not sure?

    @Calculator Culture so, if I have a 9860gii, I can upgrade OS for user defined functions... I'll check it. Thanks. Is it documented somewhere? I mean the syntax, global/local variables, etc...?

    @@CalculatorCulture ahh, ok, this is the fnn memory. I mean "user defined", like: ADD3(A,B,C): RETURN A+B+C Then I can use my new ADD3 function in this way: ADD3(1,2,3) and the answer is 6 and this new function is available everywhere (in my programs, in Main screen, in Spreadsheet, etc...) and the "global" A, B, C is not changed of course. As I can see, in CASIO BASIC this type user defined function is not available (unfortunately).

    Nice functional calculator. Can you get all the three cuberoots of a complex number in this model? Operations on Complex numbers like e^x, ln, cuberoot, sin, sinh etc. can be programmed into fx-5800P (although natively only sqrt is supported), and one can program it to return all 3 cuberoots (or n nth roots). (If anyone wants help let me know). Complex matrices are also possible using DimZ array function but you need to program it properly.

  • @CalculatorCulture

    @CalculatorCulture

    Yeah i think finding all three cube roots would require a program. Scott Collins made an interesting video about cube roots on the DM42 recently... kzread.info/dash/bejne/m4KGmc2ccZOecdY.html&ab_channel=ScottCollins

    so after playing with this calculator for a while, I discovered that you'll find the (!) if you chose the OPTN key (which is next to the power key-next to the ALPHA key), then click F6 to continue in the menu, then F3, then F1.
