Cashing in on the opioid crisis
The frequent misuse of opioids, a drug used for pain management, has led to a global opioid crisis. Efforts are now in place to make naloxone, a drug that reverses opioid overdoses, more accessible to non-medical personnel. But why are their prices going up? This video provides an overview of the opioid crisis, current means of treatment and the role of pharmaceutical companies in the rise of treatment costs.

awesome video! very informative
Great video, and very eye-opening! But isn't it safe to say that the abuse and 'cowboy-prescribing' is mostly in the US, hence skewing the epidemic data with largest numbers from the US? It's also crazy how many commercials you see on TV for pharmaceuticals in the US. This is only occasionally so, at least in Belgium here, for some mild stuff like ibuprofen-based NSAIDS or intranasal spray for congested nostrils... This is indeed one example of big pharma going bad!

Purdue Pharmacueticals L.P. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Sept. 2019. 48 U.S. States and D.C. are suing Purdue for its role in the opioid crisis; some states have agreed to tentative settlement deals.
